Getting started
Adjusting
You can adjust your seats either manually
or electrically*, depending on your vehi-
cle's equipment. Ad
just ing Seats
G
Risk of accident Only adjust the driver's
seat when the vehi-
cle is stationary. Oth erwise, you may no
lon ger be able toobserve road and traffic
cond itions and you could lose control of the
ve hicle as a result ofthe seat movin g. G
Risk of accident and injury Make sure that nobody can become trapped
as
you adjus tthe seat.
To reduce the risk of seri ousor fatal inju ries
in the event of an acci dent or heavydeceler-
ation, e.g .by an airbag inflating within milli-
seconds, observe the following points:
! All occupants must selec ta se at
position that allows the seat belt to be
worn correctly and th at is asfaraw ay
fr om the fro ntairbags as possible.
The position of the driver's seat must
allow the driver to drive the vehicle
sa fely. The distanc efrom the driver's
seat to th epedals mu st be such tha tthe
driver can fully depress the pedals. The
distance between the driver's chest and
the centre of the airbag cover must be
more than 25cm. The dri ver's ar ms
should beslightly bent when holding the
steering wheel. !
Position the front-pa ssen gerse at as far
ba ck as possible, especially if a child is
sitting on this seat or if a child is secured
in a restraint system onthis seat.
! Occ upants must always wea rthe irseat
be ltco rrec tly and po sitio ntheir back-
rest as clo seto the vertical as possible.
The head restraint should support the
ba ck ofyour head at about eye level.
! Rearward-faci ngchild restraint systems
must not be fitted to th efront-passen-
ger seat unless the front passenger air-
bag has been deactivated. In Merc edes-
Benz vehi cles, the front passenger air-
ba g is deactivated and the AIRBAG OFF
warning lamp is lit when a child restraint
system with automatic child seat recog-
nition is fitted to a front-passenger seat
in a vehicl ewith automatic child seat
recognition. 209en_d2.boo Seite

rb ag syst em G
Risk ofinjury If the belt tensi
onersha ve bee ntriggered,
have them replaced ata qualified specialist
workshop which has th eneces sary special-
ist knowledge and tools to carry out the
work required. Mercedes -Benz recommends
that you use a Mercedes-Be nzService
Centre for this purpose.
In particular, work rele vant to safety or on
safe ty-re lated systems mustbe carried out
at a qualified spec ialist workshop.
Ob serve the safety regulations for th edis-
posal of belt tensioners. Any Mercedes-B enz
Service Centre can provide detail sof these
regulations. G
Risk of injury To reduce the risk of serious or fata
linjury in
an accident with a high rate of deceleration,
e.g. injuries caused by an airbaginflating
within milliseconds or in the ev ent of abrupt
br aking, please observe the following
inst ructions:
! Allve hicle occupants must select a seat
position in which it is possible to wear
the seat belt correctl ybut which is as far
back from the airba gas possible. The
position of the driver's seat must allow
the driver to drive th evehicle safely. The
driver's arms shou ldbe slightly bent
when holding the steering wheel. The
distance from th edriver's seat to the
pedals must be such that the dr iver can
fully depress the pedals.
! Vehicle occupants should wear their
seat belt correctly at all times and lean
back against the bac krest, which should
be positioned almost vertically. The
head restraint should support the back
of yo urhead at abo uteye level. !
Move the front- passenger seat as far to
the rear as possible, especially if a child
is secured in a restraint system installed
on this sea t.
! Never secure a rearward-facing child
restraint system on the front-pass enger
seat if the front-passenger front airbag
is not deactivate d.In the CLK-Class, the
fr ont-passen ger fro ntairbag is deacti-
vated if a child restraint system with
automatic child seat recognition is
secured to a front-passenger seat and
the AIRBAG OFF lamp is lit. If the auto-
matic child seat rec ognition is defective,
children must be secured in a child
restraint system ins talled on a suitable
re ar seat. If you are using aforward-f ac-
in g child seat on the fro nt-pa ssen ger
seat, the front-passenger seat must be
moved as far to the rear as possibl e. 209en_d2.boo Seite

Rearward-facing child seat warning symbol Automat
icchild seat rec ognition
The sensor system for the front-passenger
seat automatical lyrecognises whether a
special Mercedes-Benz rearward-facing
chi ldseat is fitted. If this is the case, the
PASSEN GER AIRBAG OFF warning lamp on
the centre console lights up. G
Risk of inju ry A rearward-faci
ngchild restraint system
must not be used on a seat protected by an
ai rbag install edinfront ofthe seat unless
the airbag is deactivated. To make this clear,
an appropriate warning sticker is affixed to
either side of the front-passenger sun visor. G
Risk of inju ry A rearward-faci
ngchild restraint system
must not be used on a seat protected by an
ai rbag install edinfront ofthe seat unless
the airbag is deactivated.
On the front-pass enger seat, only use child
restraint systems with automatic child seat
recognition which have been recommended
for Mercedes-Be nzvehicl es. You can obt ain
information from any Mercedes-Benz Serv-
ice Centre.
If yo u usearearward-facing child seat on
the front-passenger seat, it must be a spe-
cial Mercedes-Be nzrearward- facing child
seat with automatic ch ild seat recognition. If other rearward-facing child seats are used
on th efront-passenger seat, the front-pas-
senger airbag is not deactivated and the
child could be seriously or fatally injured by
the airb aginflating. To makethis clear,an
appropriate warning symbol is affixed in the
cockpit.
If you use a forward-facing child seat with-
out automatic child seat recognition on the
fr ont-passenger seat, you must move the
fr ont-passenger seat to its rearm ostp osi-
tion.
Do not leave children unsupervised in the
vehi cle, even if they are sec ured in a child
restraint syst em. They would otherwise be
unable to res cue them selves if danger
threatens ,e.g.ex ces sive heat. Or the ycould
oth erwi se be injured by moving parts in the
vehic le, such as seats, or open the doors
and th ereby endanger themselves and oth-
ers, for example. 209en_d2.boo Seite

senger airb agis deactivat ed. ISOFIX
child seat secur ing system*
ISOFIX is a standardised securing system
for speci alchild seats in the rear. The
securing rings provided for two child seats
are located on the left andright-hand sid es
of the rear seats bet ween the seat cush-
ions and the ba ckrest. G
Risk ofinjury If the front-passenger front airbag warning
lamp does not light up when the child seat is
fitted, the front-passenger front airbag has
not been de
activated. The child could suffer
life-t hreatening injuries if the front-passen-
ger front airbag deploys. If the above warn-
ing lamp does not light up when the child
seat is fitted, proceed as follows:
! Do no tuse a rearward-facing child seat
on the fr ont-pass engerse at.
P68.10-3078-31 !
Fit the rearward-facing child seat on a
suitable rear seat.
or
! Use a forward-facing child seat onthe
fr ont-passen gers eat. In this case, you
must move the front-passenger seat to
its rearm ostp osition.
! Have the automatic child seat recogni-
tion checked at a qualified specialist
workshop which has th eneces sary spe-
cialist knowledge and tools to carry out
the work required. Merc edes-Benz rec-
om mends that you use a Mer cedes-
Benz Service Centre for this purpose.
In particular, work re levant to safety oron

at a qualifie dsp ecialist workshop. G
Risk of inju ry A child restraint system secured by the
ISOFIX child seat securing system does not
pro
vide sufficient protection for children
weighing more than 22 kg. For this reason,
do not secure childre nweighing more than
22 kg in a chi ldrestra int system securedby
the ISOFIX child seat sec uring syste m.If the
child weighs more than 22 kg, you should
secure the child restraint system using a
