Opening and closing
!
If the KEYLESS GO key is removed from
the vehicle whi lethe ignition is on
and a door is open, e.g. ifthe front pas-
senger leaves the vehicle with the
KEYLESS GO key, you will see the fol-
lowing message in the multi-function
display when pulling away:Key not
detected!
! The vehicle can be started at any time
if the KEYLESS GO key is in the veh icle.
If you have forgotten the KEYLESS GO
key, you will see the following message
in the mul ti-function display when you
lock the vehicle:

6 Grasp the door handle.
The turn signals flash once. The locking
knobs inthe doors pop up. The anti-
theft alarm system* is deacti vated.
If you do not open either a door or the
boot lid after you have unlocke dyour
veh icle, the vehicle relocks itself after
approxi mately 40 seconds. i
The vehicle could unlock inadverte ntly if the
KEYLESS GO key is one meter away and
! thedoor handle is splashed by a gush of
water
! you clean the door handle
Locking the vehicle centrally
6 Press the locking button on the door

page 82) or onthe boot
(= page 82).

Locking the veh icle centrally from the
boot

Opening and closing
The locking button is on the right-hand
side of the hand lestrip above the licence
plate recess.

6 Press button 1.
The vehicle is centrally locked.
The locking knobs in the doors drop
down. The turn signal sflash three
times. The anti-theft alarm system* is
primed. Individual settings
If you frequently travel alone, you may
wish
to change how the KEYLESS GO key func-
tions. Only the following are unlocked with
this setting when the driver's door handle
is grasped:
! The driver's door
! The fuel fi ller flap
1 Battery check lamp
2 ‹ Locking button
3 ΠUnlock ing butt on 6
Press and hol d both theŒand‹
buttons simultaneously for approxi-
mately si xseconds until battery check
lamp 1flashes twice.
The KEYLESS GO key then functions as
fo llows:
Unlocking the driver's door 6 Grasp the door handle.
Un locking the veh icle centrally
6 Grasp the door handle on the front-pas-
senger side.
Lo cking the vehicle centrally

Opening /closing in an emergency Unlocking
the driver's door
If you can no longer lock or unlock the driv-
er's door using the key, use the emerge ncy
key element.

key element. To do this, sli dethe emer-
gency key element to the stop in the

The anti-t heft alarm system will be triggered
if you open yourvehicle using the emergency key
el eme nt.T here are several ways of switchin gof f
the alarm:
! Press theŒ or‹ button onthe key.
! Insert the key into the ignition lock.
! Pressthe KEYLE SSGO button* (= page 23). Un

If the boot can no longer be locked or un-
locked using the key, unlock it as follows

Technical terms
Interior motion sen sor*
Anti-theft system which triggers an
alarm if the side windows are smashed
and someone reaches into the vehicle
when the vehicle is locked.
IRS* (->Interior motion sensor)
KEYLESS GO* System for operating the vehicle with-
out a key.
Ki ck down
On vehicles with ->automatic transmis-
sion*, the transmission is shifted down
to a lower gear when the accelerator
ped alis depressed beyond the pres-
sure point. This increases the rate of
vehicle acceleration. Knock
resistance
Resistance of petrol against uncon-
trolled self-ignition of th egas-air mix-
ture in the cylinder head (knocking).
The octane number is a measure of
knock res istance. The higher the oc-
tane number, the higher the knock re-
sistance.
Lamp Spreads and forms the beam of light
from a ->bulb, e.g. headlamps.
LED (L ig
ht -E mitting D iode);
Semiconductor element that converts
electr icity directly into light.
Light emitting diode
->LED Light sensor
Detects ambient light conditions to
contro lwhether the following lamps
should be switched on and off automat-
ically:
