OPERATION OF SELECTOR LEVER
SELECTOR LEVER POSITION
P: Parking, engine starting and key removal position
R: Reverse position
N: Neutral position
D: Normal driving position (Shifting into overdrive
possible)
M: Position for manual shifting up or downshifting

3, 2: Position for more powerful engine braking

*:When the cruise control is being used, even if you downshift from º5º to º4º\
, engine braking will not be enabled because
the cruise control is not cancelled. For the operation to decrease the \

Locking with power door lock switch

1Lock 2Unlock
To lock all the doors simultaneously, push the power door
lock switch down on the front side. Pushing down on the
rear side will unlock them.
The same switch is also located on the front passenger's side.
Setting the auto door locking and unlocking
functions
You can set the following auto door locking and unlocking
functions.
(a) Locking linked with the shift position (Automatic
transmission only)
All the doors are locked automatically when the selector lever
is moved out of the ºPº position with the engine running. (b) Unlocking linked with the shift position (Automatic
transmission only)
All the doors are unlocked automatically when the selector
lever is moved to the ºPº position with the ignition switch in the
ºONº position.*
NOTE:
*This function is the default setting for new vehicles.
(c) Locking linked with the vehicle speed
All the doors are locked automatically when the vehicle speed
reaches 20 km/h (12 mph) or higher. However, if any door is
unlocked during driving, this auto locking function will not
operate until the unlocked door is opened once.*
NOTE:*This function is the default setting for new vehicles.
(d) Unlocking linked with opening the driver's door
All the doors are unlocked automatically when the driver's door
is opened within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned
from ºONº to the ºACCº or ºLOCKº position.*
NOTE:*This function is the default setting for new vehicles.
Setting the functions
1. Close all the doors.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the ºONº position.
3. Within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the
ºONº position;

(i) Malfunction Indicator Lamp
This lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the
ºONº position and goes off after the engine starts. This
means that the warning light system is operating properly.
If the lamp remains on, or the lamp comes on while
driving, first check the followings.
 Empty fuel tank
If the fuel tank is empty, refuel immediately.
 Loose fuel tank cap
If the fuel tank cap is loose, securely tighten it.
These cases are temporary malfunctions. The malfunction
indicator lamp will go off after taking several driving trips.
If the lamp will not go off even after the several trips, contact
your Lexus dealer as soon as possible.
If the fuel tank is not empty or the fuel tank cap is not
loose...
 There is a problem somewhere in the engine, emission
control system, electronic throttle control system, automatic
transmission electrical system or warning light system itself.
Contact your Lexus dealer as soon as possible to service the
vehicle.
If this lamp comes on and the engine speed does not increase
with the accelerator pedal depressed down to about the middle
position, there may be a problem somewhere in your electronic
throttle control system. At this time, if you depress the accelerator pedal more firmly
and slowly, you can drive your vehicle at low speeds. Have
your
Lexus checked by your Lexus dealer as soon as possible.
Even if the abnorma lity of the electronic throttle control system
is corrected during low speed driving, the system may not be
recovered until the engine is stopped and the ignition key is
turned to ºACCº or ºLOCKº position.
CAUTION
Be especially careful to prevent erroneous pedal
operation.
Emissions Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) programs
Your vehicle may not pass a state emission inspection if the
malfunction indicator lamp remains on. Contact your Lexus
dealer to check your vehicle's emission control system and
OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) system before taking your
vehicle for the inspection.

(j) ºABSº Warning Light
The light comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ºONº
position. If the anti-lock brake system and the brake assist
system work properly, the light turns off after a few seconds.
Thereafter, if either of the systems malfunctions, the light
comes on again.

OCCUPANT RESTRAINT SYSTEMS

CAUTION
When using the lower anchorages for the child
restraint system, be sure that there are no irregular
objects around the anchorages or that the seat belt is
not caught.
 Push and pull the child restraint system in different
directions to be sure it is secure. Follow all the
installation instructions provided by its
manufacturer.
 Do not install a child restraint system on the rear seat
if it interferes with the lock mechanism of the front
seats. This can cause death or severe injury to the
child and front passenger in case of sudden braking
or a collision.
DRIVING POSITION MEMORY
SYSTEM
The microcomputer can memorize the positions of the driver's
seat. Two different driving position profiles can be entered into
the computer's memory.
Automatic transmission: Recording a driving position in the
computer's memory can only be done when the ignition key is
in the ºONº position and the selector lever is in the ºPº posi\
tion.
Manual transmission: Recording a driving position in the
computer's memory can only be done when the ignition key is
in the ºONº position and the parking brake is applied.
