DRIVING TIPS

WINTER DRIVING TIPS
Make sure your coolant is properly protected against
freezing.
Only use Toyota Super Long Life Coolantº or similar high
quality ethylene glycol based non- silicate, non- amine,
non- nitrite, and non- borate coolant with long- life hybrid
organic acid technology.
See Checking the engine coolant levelº on page 375 for
details of coolant type selection.
Toyota Super Long Life Coolantº is pre- mixed with 50%
coolant and 50% deionized water. This coolant provides
protection down to about -35C (-31F).
NOTICE
Do not use plain water alone.
Check the condition of the battery and cables.
Cold temperatures reduce the capacity of any battery, so it
must be in top shape to provide enough power for winter
starting. Page 421 tells you how to visually inspect the battery.
Your Lexus dealer and most service stations will be pleased to
check the battery charge level.Make sure the engine oil viscosity is suitable for the cold
weather.
See page 374 for recommended viscosity. Leaving a heavy
summer oil in your vehicle during winter months may cause
harder starting. If you are not sure about which oil to use, call
your Lexus dealer Ð they will be pleased to help.
Check the electronic ignition system for loose
connections or obvious damage.
Keep the door locks from freezing.
Squirt lock de-icer or glycerine into the locks to keep them from
freezing.

Engine oil selection
Toyota Genuine Motor Oilº is filled in your Lexus vehicle. Use
Lexus approved Toyota Genuine Motor Oilº or equivalent to
satisfy the following grade and viscosity.
Oil grade: API grade SL Energy-Conservingº or ILSAC
multigrade engine oil
Recommended viscosity: SAE 5W-30
62Z002
Outside temperature
SAE 5W-30 is the best choice for good fuel economy and
good starting in cold weather.
If SAE 5W-30 is not available, SAE 10W-30 may be used.
However, it should be replaced with SAE 5W-30 at the next
oil change.
Oil identification marks
SOIL11
API Service SymbolILSAC Certification Mark
Either or both API registered marks are added to some oil
containers to help you select the oil you should use.
The API Service Symbol is located anywhere on the outside
of the container.
The top portion of the label shows the oil quality by API
(American Petroleum Institute) designation such as SL.
The center portion of the label shows the SAE viscosity
grade such as SAE 5W-30. Energy-Conservingº, shown
in the lower portion, indicates that the oil has fuel-saving
capabilities.
The ILSAC (International Lubricant Standardization and
Approval Committee) Certification Mark is displayed on the
front of the container.

Toyota Genuine Motor Oilº is available, which has been
specifically tested and approved for all Lexus engines.
Please contact your Lexus dealer for further details about
Toyota Genuine Motor Oilº.
CHECKING THE ENGINE COOLANT
LEVEL
1Reservoir cap2Upper line3Lower line
Look at the see-through coolant reservoir when the
engine is cold. The coolant level is satisfactory if it is
between the Fº and Lº lines on the reservoir. If the level
is low, add the coolant. (For the coolant type, see Coolant
type selectionº described below.)
The coolant level in the reservoir will vary with engine
temperature. However, if the level is on or below the Lº line,
add coolant. Bring the level up to the Fº line.

GAS STATION INFORMATION
Fuel selection:
Select unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating of 87
(Research Octane Number 91) or higher. For improved
vehicle performance, the use of premium unleaded
gasoline with an Octane Rating of 91 (Research Octane
Number 96) or higher is recommended.
Fuel tank capacity:
70 L (18.5 gal., 15.4 lmp. gal.)
Engine oil:
Toyota Genuine Motor Oilº or equivalent
Oil grade: API grade SL Energy- Conservingº or ILSAC
multigrade engine oil
Recommended oil viscosity: SAE 5W-30
Oil capacity: L (qt., lmp. qt.)
Drain and refill
With filter 4.7 (5.0, 4.1)
Without filter 4.5 (4.8, 4.0)
See page 370 for detailed information.Engine coolant:
Capacity: 9.2 L (9.7 qt., 8.2 lmp. qt.)
Coolant type Ð Toyota Super Long Life Coolantº or similar
high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine,
non- nitrite, and non- borate coolant with long- life hybrid
organic acid technology
Do not use plain water alone.
For checking the engine coolant, see page 375.
Automatic transaxle:
Fluid type Ð Toyota Genuine ATF Type T-IV
See page 381 for detailed information.
Tire information:
See pages 389 through 407 for detailed information.
Tire inflation pressure:
Tire size: P215/60R16 94V
Tire inflation pressure:
Front 200 kPa (2.0 kgf/cm
2 or bar, 29 psi)
Rear 200 kPa (2.0 kgf/cm2 or bar, 29 psi)
