knows your vehicle best. Your dealer has factory-trained
technicians, recommended special tools, genuine Kia
replacement parts and is dedicated to your complete sat-
isfaction.
Because subsequent owners require this important infor-

vehicle if it is sold.
This manual will familiarize you with operational, main-
tenance and safety information about your new vehicle. It
is supplemented by a Warranty and Consumer
Information manual that provides important information
on all warranties regarding your vehicle. If your vehicle
is equipped with an audio system, you will also have a
Kia Integrated Audio System manual explaining its oper-
ation. We urge you to read these publications carefully
and follow the recommendations to help assure enjoyable
and safe operation of your new vehicle.
Kia offers a great variety of options, components and fea-
tures for its various models.
Therefore, the equipment described in this manual, along
with the various illustrations, may not all be applicable to
your particular vehicle. The information and specifications provided in this man-
ual were accurate at the time of printing. Kia reserves the
right to discontinue or change specifications or design at
any time without notice and without incurring any obli-
gation. If you have questions, always check with your
Kia Dealer.
We assure you of our continuing interest in your motor-

Restrictions in handling keysWhen leaving keys with parking lot
and valet attendants, the following
procedures will ensure that your
vehicle’s trunk and glove box com-
partment can not be opened in your
absence.1. Unlock the glove box with the mas-
ter key and open it.
2. Set the trunk lid control button in the glove box compartment to
OFF (not depressed). In the OFF
position, the trunk can not be
unlocked with either the trunk
release lever inside the car or
trunk open button of transmitter.
3. Close the glove box, and lock the glove box using the master key.
4. Leave the sub key with the atten- dant. Trunk and glove box are
secured because sub key only
allows engine start and door lock
and unlock.
CAUTION
Use only Kia original parts forthe ignition key in your vehicle. If an aftermarket key is used, theignition switch may not returnto ON after START. If this hap-pens, the starter will continue tooperate causing damage to thestarter motor and possible firedue to excessive current in thewiring.

In order to help provide protection
in a severe collision, the airbags
must inflate rapidly. The speed of
airbag inflation has been deter-
mined by the Canadian Motor
Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS)
to reduce the likelihood of serious
or life-threatening injuries and is
thus a mandatory part of the airbag
design.
However, airbag inflation can also
cause injuries which normally can
include facial abrasions, bruises
and broken bones, because that
speed also causes the airbags to
expand with a great deal force.
There are even circumstances
under which contact with the
steering wheel airbag can cause
fatal injuries, especially if the
occupant is positioned exces-
sively close to the steering
wheel.
Noise and smokeWhen the airbags inflate, they make
a loud noise and they leave smoke
and powder in the air inside of the
vehicle. This is normal and is a result
of the ignition of the airbag inflator.
After the airbag inflates, you may feel
substantial discomfort in breathing
due to the contact of your chest to
both the safety belt and the airbag,
as well as from breathing the smoke
and powder. We strongly urge you
to open your doors and/or win-
dows as soon as possible after
impact in order to reduce discom-
fort and prevent prolonged expo-
sure to the smoke and powder.
Though smoke and powder are non-
toxic, it may cause irritation to the
skin (eyes, nose and throat etc). If
this is the case, wash and rinse with
the cold water immediately and con-
sult the doctor if the symptom per-
sists.
WARNING
Driver should sit as far back
(at least 250 mm (10 inches)
away) from the steering wheel
airbag as possible to reduce
the risk of injury or death in a
collision. The front passenger
should always move their seat
as far back as possible and sit
back in their seat.
Airbag inflates instantly in an
event of collision, passengers
may be injured by the airbag
expansion force if they are not
in proper position.
Airbag inflation may cause
injuries which normally
include facial or bodily abra-
sions, injuries by the broken
glasses or burns by the explo-
sives.

✽ ✽NOTICE• The mirrors stop moving when
they reach the maximum adjust-
ing angles, but the motor contin-
ues to operate while the switch is
depressed. Do not depress the
switch longer than necessary, the
motor may be damaged.
• Do not attempt to adjust the out- side rearview mirror by hands.
Doing so may damage the parts.
Automatic mirror adjustment in
reverse maneuvers (if equipped)When the transmission gear is shift-
ed into reverse (R), the outside
rearview mirror(s) will automatically
turn downward about 5 degrees to
improve driver visibility. It will stay in
that position until the transaxle shift
lever is shifted out of reverse (R). L : Both the left and right out-
side rearview mirrors will be
turned downward about 5
degrees.
R : Only the right outside rearview mirror will be
turned downward about 5
degrees.
Center : Automatic mirror adjustment function is disabled, no mir-
ror will be turned downward.
The outside rearview mirror(s) will
return to its previous position auto-
matically if outside rearview mirror
selection switch is changed to anoth-
er position, or transaxle shift lever is
shifted out of reverse (R).

Reprogramming a single
HomeLink buttonTo program a device to HomeLink
using a HomeLink button previously
trained, follow these steps:
1. Press and hold the desired
HomeLink button. Do NOT release
until step 4 has been completed.
2. When the indicator light begins to flash slowly (after 20 seconds),
position the hand-held transmitter
3 ~ 7 cm away from the HomeLink
surface.
3. Press and hold the hand-held transmitter button (or press and
“cycle” - as described in
“Canadian Programming” above).
4. The HomeLink indicator light will flash, first slowly and then rapidly.
When the indicator light begins to
flash rapidly, release both buttons.
The previous device has now been
erased and the new device can be
activated by pushing the HomeLink
button that has just been pro-
grammed. This procedure will not
affect any other programmed
HomeLink buttons.
Gate operator programming &
canadian programmingDuring programming, your hand-held
transmitter may automatically stop
transmitting. Continue to press and
hold the HomeLink button (note
steps 2 through 4 in the
“Programming” portion of this text)
while you press and re-press
(“cycle”) your handheld transmitter
every two seconds until the frequen-
cy signal has been learned. The indi-
cator light will flash slowly and then
rapidly after several seconds upon
successful training.✽ ✽ NOTICEIf programming a garage door
opener or gate, it is advised to
unplug the device during the
“cycling” process to prevent possi-
ble motor burn-up.

tion on the HomeLink Wireless
Control System, HomeLink compati-
ble products, or to purchase other

In case of an emergency46EMERGENCY STARTING Jump starting Jump starting can be dangerous if
done incorrectly. Therefore, to avoid
harm to yourself or damage to your
vehicle or battery, follow the jump
starting procedures listed on page
6-6. If in doubt, we strongly recom-
mend that you have a competent
technician or towing service jump
start your vehicle.
✽ ✽NOTICEUse only a 12-volt jumper system.
You can damage a 12-volt starting
motor, ignition system, and other
electrical parts beyond repair by use
of a 24-volt power supply (either two
12-volt batteries in series or a 24-
volt motor generator set).

WARNING
- Battery
• Keep all flames or sparks away from the battery. The bat-
tery produces hydrogen gas
which may explode if exposed
to flame or sparks.
Do not attempt to jump start the vehicle if the discharged
battery is frozen or if the elec-
trolyte level is low; the battery
may rupture or explode.
WARNING
- Battery
Never attempt to check the elec-
trolyte level of the battery as
this may cause the battery to
rupture or explode causing seri-
ous injury.
