6-12 G110A01E-EAT AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID The automatic transaxle fluid level should be checked and changed at those intervals pre-scribed in the maintenance schedule. It is ofparamount importance that only the specifiedfluid is used when replenishing or changing thefluid. The use of other fluids may irreparablydamage the transaxle and invalidate the manu-facturers warranty. In addition the ingress of dirtor lint may prevent correct functioning of thetransaxle and care must be exercised to pre-vent the ingress of such matter. NOTE: Basically automatic transaxle fluid is redcolor. As driving distance increases, thefluid color turns darkish red gradually. It isnormal condition and you should not usefluid color as a criterion for replacing thetransaxle fluid.
Ensure that the vehicle is parked on levelground with the parking brake firmly appliedand the engine cool. Remove the level plugfrom the transaxle when lubricant should be-gin to drip from the level hole. If the level islow and no lubricant is seen to drip, add therequired quantity of lubricant and replace theplug.
The manual transaxle lubricant must bechecked and or changed at the intervalsspecified in the maintenance schedule. Onlythose lubricants specified should be used inorder to prevent gear shifting difficulties ortransaxle damage. WARNING: The transaxle lubricant level should only be checked when the engine is cold topreclude the possibility of personal injuryby contact with hot components.
Recommended Oil Use only the approved transaxle lubricant. The recommended lubricants are complete inthemselves and the use of additives is neitherrequired nor recommended. The use of addi-tives may invalidate the vehicle warranty.

only a proprietary screen wash additive should be used and in the concentration recom-mended by the manufacturer. The windscreenwasher reservoir has a total capacity of 3litres.
CAUTION: Engine coolant anti freeze must not be
used in the windscreen washer system since damage to the paintwork may result.
Undiluted windscreen washer additive must
not be allowed to come into contact with thepaintwork. If spillage occurs, flush the af-fected area immediately with water. Do notoperate the windscreen washer for morethan 15 seconds continuously or whenthe reservoir is empty since damage tothe washer pump will result.

Brake Fluid Level
The fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir should be checked periodically. The levelshould be between the "MIN" and "MAX"marks on the side of the reservoir. If the levelis at or below the "MIN" mark, fluid should beadded having carefully cleaned the area sur-rounding the reservoir cap to ensure that dirtis not allowed to enter the system. It shouldbe borne in mind that the brake fluid level willdecrease slightly as the friction linings of thepads and shoes become worn and that this isa normal condition.

BRAKE SYSTEM CHECKING CAUTION: Correct operation of the braking system is
essential to the safe operation of the vehicle and therefore, any maintenance operationsother than those listed below should beentrusted to a Hyundai dealer.
SG120C2-E
Brake Fluid Recommendations Only brake fluid conforming to DOT 3 orDOT 4 specifications or higher may be usedin the braking system. Care should be takento observe the instructions and precautionsprinted upon the container.

the ECU or wiring harness within the engine room while engine is running, since the high currents in the CommonRail system produce considerable mag-netic fields.
Fluid Capacity The total fluid capacity of the transmission unitis 6.1 litres (1.6 DOHC)/6.7 litres(1.8 DOHC).
Fluid level should be within this range

coolant temperature and may sometimes operate even when the engine is not run-ning. Use extreme caution when workingnear the blades of the cooling fan so thatyou are not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the engine coolant temperature de-creases, the fan will automatically shutoff. This is a normal condition.
WARNING (Diesel only): Never work on injection system with en-

The fuel jet produced byfuel leaks may cause serious injury, if ittouch the body. People using pacemak-ers should not move than 30cm closer to

ELECTRIC COOLING FANS
WARNING: The cooling fan is controlled by engine coolant temperature and may sometimesoperate even when the engine is not run-ning. Use extreme caution when workingnear the blades of the cooling fan so thatyou are not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the engine coolant temperature decreas-es, the fan will automatically shut off. Thisis a normal condition. The engine cooling fan should operate before the temperature gauge reaches the upper por-tion of the scale and the condenser fan shouldoperate whenever the air conditioning is in use. The power steering fluid level should bechecked daily. To check the power steering fluid level, be sure the ignition is "OFF", then check to makecertain that the power steering fluid level isbetween the "MAX" and "MIN" level markingson the fluid reservoir. NOTE: Grinding noise from power steering pump may be heard immediately after the engineis started in extremely cold condition(below -4°F). If the noise stops during warmup, there is no abnormal function in thesystem. This is due to a power steeringfluid characteristic in extremely cold con-ditions. FLUID RECOMMENDATION Only automatic transmission fluid meeting the specification of PSF-3 or Dexron 2 should beused in the power steering system.
