B230G01A-GAT Installation on the Outboard Rear Seats To install a child restraint system on the outboard rear seats, extend the shoulder/lapbelt from its retractor. Buckle the seat belt andallow the seat belt to take up any slack. Makesure that the lap portion of the belt is tightaround the child restraint system and theshoulder portion of the belt is positioned sothat it cannot interfere with the child's head orneck. After installation of the child restraintsystem, try to move it in all directions to besure the child restraint system is securelyinstalled. If you need to tighten the belt, pull more webbing toward the retractor. When you un-buckle the seat belt and allow it to retract, theretractor will automatically revert back to itsnormal seated passenger emergency lockingusage condition. NOTE:
o Before installing the child restraint sys- tem, read the instructions supplied bythe child restraint system manufacturer.
o If the seat belt does not operate as described, have the system checkedimmediately by your authorized Hyundaidealer.
WARNING: Do not install any child restraint system in
the front passenger seat. Should an acci- dent occur and cause the passenger'sside airbag to deploy, it could severelyinjure or kill an infant or child seated in aninfant or child seat. Therefore, only use achild restraint system in the rear seat ofyour vehicle. B230B02A-GAT
Using a Child Restraint System with "Tether Anchorage"System For small children and babies, the use of a child seat or infant seat is strongly recom-mended. This child seat or infant seat shouldbe of appropriate size for the child and shouldbe installed in accordance with themanufacturer's instructions. It is further rec-ommended that the seat be placed in thevehicle's rear seat since this can make animportant contribution to safety. Your vehicleis provided three child restraint hook holdersfor installing the child seat or infant seat.

o Do not place any objects (an umbrella, bag, etc.) between the front door and the front seat. Such objects may becomedangerous projectiles and cause injury ifthe supplemental side impact air baginflates.
o To prevent unexpected deployment of the side impact air bag that may result inpersonal injury, avoid impact to the sideairbag sensor when the ignition key ison.

The entire SRS system must be in-spected by an authorized Hyundai dealer 10years after the date that the vehicle was manu-factured. Any work on the SRS system, such as remov- ing, installing, repairing, or any work on thesteering wheel must be performed by a quali-fied Hyundai technician. Improper handling ofthe SRS system may result in serious personalinjury.

o For best protection from the side impact airbag system and to avoid being injuredby the deploying side impact airbag, bothfront seat occupants should sit in anupright position with the seat belt prop-erly fastened. The driver's hands shouldbe placed on the steering wheel at the9:00 and 3:00 o'clock positions. Thepassenger's arms and hands should beplaced in their laps.
o Do not use any accessory seat covers.
o Use of seat covers could reduce or pre- vent the effectiveness of the system.
o Do not install any accessories on the side or near the side impact airbag.
o Do not use excessive force on the side of the seat.

Your Hyundai is equipped with a side airbag in each front seat. The purpose of the airbag is toprovide the vehicle's driver and/or the frontpassenger with additional protection than thatoffered by the seatbelt alone. The side impactairbags are designed to deploy only duringcertain side impact collisions, depending on thecrash severity, angle, speed and point of im-pact. The air bags are not designed to deploy inall side impact situations.

Malfunction Indicator Light (If Installed)
This light illuminates when there is a malfunc- tion of an exhaust gas related component, andthe system is not functioning properly so thatthe exhaust gas regulation values are not sat-isfied. This light will illuminate when the ignitionkey is tuned to the "ON" position, and will go outafter the engine start. If it illuminates whiledriving, or does not illuminate when the ignitionkey is turned to the "ON" position, take your carto your nearest authorized Hyundai dealer andhave the system checked.
B260C02E-GAT Traction Control Indicator Light (If Installed)
The traction control indicator changes opera- tion according to the ignition switch positionand whether or not the system is in operation.It will also illuminate when the ignition key isturned to the "ON" position, and then go off in afew seconds. If the TCS indicator stays on,take your car to your authorized Hyundai dealerand have the system checked. See section 2for more information about the TCS system.
B270A01A-AAT BRAKE PAD WEAR WARNING SOUND The front disc brake pads have wear indicators that should make a high-pitched squealing orscraping noise when new pads are needed.The sound may come and go or be heard all the
time when the vehicle is moving. It may also beheard when the brake pedal is pushed downfirmly. Excessive rotor damage will result if theworn pads are not replaced. See your Hyundaidealer immediately.

Diesel Pre-heat Indicator Light (Diesel Engine)
The indicator light illuminates amber when the ignition switch is placed at the "ON" position.The engine can be started after the pre-heatindicator light goes off. The illuminating timevaries with the water temperature, air tem-perature and battery condition. NOTE: If the engine were not started 10 seconds after the preheating is completed, turn theignition key once more to the "LOCK"position, and then to the "ON" position, inorder to preheat again.

This light illuminates when the engine has started and go off after a few seconds. If itlights up while the engine is running, it indi-cates that water has accumulated inside thefuel filter. If this happens, remove the waterfrom the fuel filter. (Refer to "6-22 page")
B270B02O-GAT PARKING START WARNING SOUND (If Installed) If the vehicle is driven at 10km/h(6mph) for more than 2~3 seconds, the warning chime willsound continuously when the parking brakeengaged.
B900A01A-GAT LIGHIS ON WARNING SOUND (If Installed) The warning chime sounds when the tail lights are on and the driver side door is open. Thisprevents the battery from discharging by warn-ing you when the car is left with the tail lights on.The chime sounds until the tail lights are turnedoff.

The spectacle case is located on the front overhead console.Push the end of the cover to open the spectaclecase. WARNING: Do not open the spectacle case while thevehicle is moving. The rear view mirror ofthe vehicle can be blocked by an openspectacle case.
The interior courtesy light has a button of three positions. The three positions are:
oDR In the "DR" position, the interior courtesy light comes on when any door is opened regardlessof the ignition key position. The light goes outwhen the door is closed.
oON In the "ON" position, the light stays on at all times.
o OFF In the "OFF" position, the light stays off at all times even though a door is open.

o "START" The engine is started in this position. It will crank until you release the key. NOTE: Do not hold the key in the "START" position for more than 15 seconds.
o "ON" When the key is in the "ON position, the ignition is on and all accessories may be turned on. If the engine is not running, the key should not be left in the "ON" position. This will discharge the battery and may also damage the ignition sys- tem.
o "ACC" With the key in the "ACC" position, the some electrical accessories (radio, etc.) may be oper- ated.
C020A01O-GAT BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE Before you start the engine, you should always:
1. Look around the vehicle to be sure there are
no flat tires, puddles of oil, water or other indications of possible trouble.
2. After entering the car, check to be sure the parking brake is engaged.
3. Check that all windows, and lights are clean.
4. Check that the interior and exterior mirrors are clean and in position.
5. Check your seat, seatback and headrest to
be sure they are in their proper positions.
6. Lock all the doors.
7. Fasten your seat belt and be sure that all other occupants have fastened theirs.
8. Turn off all lights and accessories that are not needed.
9. When you turn the ignition switch to “ON”, check that all appropriate warning lights areoperating and that you have sufficient fuel.
10. Check the operation of warning lights and all
bulbs when key is in the “ON” position.
WARNING: (DIESEL ENGINE) To ensure that sufficient vacuum exists with- in the brake system during cold weather start- up conditions, it is necessary to run the engine at idle for several seconds after start- ing the engine.
C030A01A-GAT COMBINATION IGNITION SWITCH To Start the Engine Before starting the engine:
o If your Hyundai is equipped with a manual transaxle, place the shift lever in neutral and depress the clutch pedal fully.
o If your Hyundai has an automatic transaxle,
place the shift lever in "P" (park).
o To start the engine, insert the ignition key and
turn it to the "START" position. Release it as soon as the engine starts. Do not hold the key in the "START" position for more than 15 seconds.
NOTE: For safety, the engine will not start if the shift lever is not in "P" or "N" Position (automatic transaxle).
