7CHANGING A FLAT TIRE
D060A01HP-GAT The procedure described on the fol- lowing pages can be used to rotatetires as well as to change a flat tire. When preparing to change a flat tire, check to be sure the gear selectorlever is in "P" (automatic transmission) or reverse gear (manual transmission) and that the parking brake is set, then: HSRFL060D060A01P-GAT 1. Remove the spare tire and take out the jack and tool bag. D060C01A-AAT 2. Block the Wheel Block the wheel that is diagonally op- posite from the flat tire to keep the vehicle from rolling when the car israised on the jack.

D060D01A-AAT 3. Loosen Wheel Nuts The wheel nuts should be loosened slightly before raising the car. To loosenthe nuts, turn the wrench handle coun- terclockwise. When doing this, be sure that the socket is seated completelyover the nut so it cannot slip off. For maximum leverage, position the wrench so the handle is to the right asshown in the illustration. Then, while holding the wrench near the end of the handle, pull up on it with steady pres-sure. Do not remove the nuts at this time. Just loosen them about one-half turn. HSRFL056

The method for jacking up the vehicle should be remembered in order tochange a tire in the event of a puncture and in order to install tire chains. After stopping the engine and applying the parking brake on a flat level sur-face, also use chocks to hold the wheels. Position the jack only at the specified points indicated in the illustration, and the use of the jack at other points coulddamage the vehicle body.

D060F02P-GAT 5. Raising the Car Open the lid at the right corner of the luggage compartment (minibus/van)or on the floor behind the seat (truck). Loosen the securing nut, and then take out the jack. Using the jack handle, turn the releasevalve clockwise until it reaches a stop.

Move the jack handle up and down to raise the ram until just before the jack contacts the jacking point of the car.Position the jack with the jack handle. Position it only at the specified points indicated in the "Put the Jack in Place".Use of the jack at other points could damage the car. Moving the jack handle up and down toraise the ram. As the jack begins to raise the vehicle, double check that it is properly posi-tioned and will not slip.
Then fit the jack handle into the holder,and align the groove of the jack handle with the notch of the holder.

Raise the car high enough so that the fully inflated spare tire can be installed.To do this, you will need more ground clearance than is required to remove the flat tire. Using the jack handle, turn the release valve counterclockwise slow to lower the ram, and then take out the jack.Press the piston down all the way and turn the release valve clockwise as far as possible. CAUTION:
o Use only the jack included with the vehicle and use it only for changing a wheel.
o Position the jack on a hard level
surface.
o If the release valve is loosened
by turning it 2 or more times in the counterclockwise direction, the jack’s oil will leak and the jack cannot be used.
o This jack is hydraulic, and the ram is a two-stage type. Whenboth rams are raised and the stopmark(Green paint) of the upper

ram becomes visible, stop jack- ing immediately.Further extension of the ram may damage the jack.
o When the jack is used, be sure
that there is no one in or underthe vehicle.
o When jacking up the vehicle, do so only until the tires are slightlylifted from the ground. It is dan- gerous to jack up the vehiclemore than that much.
o It is very dangerous if the jack
somehow slips, so never leavethe vehicle in the jacked-up posi- tion, and never shake the vehicle while it is raised.
WARNING:
Do not get under the car when it is supported by the jack! This is very dangerous as the vehicle could falland cause serious injury or death. No one should stay in the car while the jack is being used.

GY40240B It is recommended that you may obeythe regulations in your area. If yourvehicle is to be towed, pay careful attention to the following points.
1. Move the gearshift lever to neutral.
2. Be sure the towing speed is within
the legal limit.
3. On vehicles with steering lock sys-
tem, turn the ignition switch to "ACC" to unlock the steering wheel. If you will be using the turn signals whilebeing towed, turn the ignition switch to "ON" position.
4. To prevent the exhaust gas from
entering the towing vehicle, set theair selection lever on the heater control to the recirculation position. 5. Turn on the hazard warning lamps.
6. During towing, make sure that close
contact is maintained between the drivers of both vehicles, and that the vehicles travel at low speed.Avoid abrupt starting or stopping which might subject the vehicles to shock.
7. If the transmission is malfunction- ing or damaged, tow the vehiclewith the rear wheels raised off theground.
8. If the vehicle is equipped with a
brake booster system, the brakeboosting power will be lost and greater force will be required to depress the brake pedal.
9. If the vehicle is equipped with a power steering system, greaterforce will be required to operate thesteering wheel.
NOTE: Your vehicle should only be used to tow another vehicle if the weightof the other vehicle is less than that of your vehicle.

22IF THE ENGINE OVERHEATS
CAUTION:
o Do not allow the jumper cable clips to touch one another.
o Do not connect the jumper cable
to the negative terminal of the flat battery. The battery generates explosive gas, and a spark caused whenthe jumper cable is disconnected from the negative terminal could ignite this gas and cause an ex-plosion.
o Be careful that the jumper cable
becomes not caught in the cool-ing fan, etc.
! D030A02A-AAT If your temperature gauge indicates overheating, you experience a loss of power, or hear loud pinging or knock- ing and the engine is probably too hot.If this happens to you, you should:
1. Pull off the road and stop as soon as
it is safe to do so.
2. Place the gear selector lever in "P"
(automatic transmission), or neutral (manual transmission) and set the parking brake. If the air conditioning is on, turn it off.
3. If engine coolant is running out un- der the car or steam is coming outfrom the hood, stop the engine. Donot open the hood until the engine coolant has stopped running or the steaming has stopped. If there is novisible loss of engine coolant and no steam, leave the engine running and check to be sure the enginecooling fan is operating. If the fan is not running, turn the engine off.

9. After the engine is started, discon- nect the cables in the reverse order.
1. Both batteries must be 12V. The
capacity (Ah) of the battery supply- ing current should not be signifi- cantly below that of the discharged battery.
2. Use only heavy-duty jumper cables.
3. A discharged battery can freeze. A
frozen battery must be thawed out before connecting the jumper cables.
4. There should be no contact be-
tween the two vehicles; otherwisecurrent may flow when the positive terminal is connected.
5. The discharged battery must be correctly connected to the vehicleelectrical system.
6. Run the engine of the vehicle sup- plying current.
7. Connect the jumper cables as fol-
lows:
(1) Connect one end of one jumper cable to the positive terminal of the flat battery, and the other end to the positive terminal of the booster battery.
(2) Connect one end of the other jumper cable to the negative ter-minal of the booster battery, and

6. Turn the plastic cover counterclock- wise and remove it.
4. Using a spanner of the correct size,
remove the headlight assembly mounting bolts.

5. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the headlight.
Replacement instructions:
1. Allow the bulb to cool. Wear eye
protection.
2. Open the engine hood.
3. Always grasp the bulb by its plastic base, avoid touching the glass. HSRFL270
