o Drive at a moderate speed. The
faster you drive, the more fuel your car uses. Driving at a moderatespeed, especially on the highway, is one of the most effective ways to reduce fuel consumption.
o Don't "ride" the brake or clutch pedal. This can increase fuel consumptionand also increase wear on thesecomponents. In addition, driving with your foot resting on the brake pedal may cause the brakes to overheat,which reduces their effectiveness and may lead to more serious con- sequences.
o Take care of your tires. Keep them inflated to the recommended pres-sure. Incorrect inflation, either toomuch or too little, results in unnec- essary tire wear. Check the tire pres- sures at least once a month.
o Be sure that the wheels are aligned correctly. Improper alignment canresult from hitting curbs or drivingtoo fast over irregular surfaces. Poor alignment causes faster tire wear and may also result in other prob-lems as well as greater fuel con- sumption.

ABS will not prevent accidents due to improper or dangerous driving maneuvers. Even though vehicle control is improved during emer-gency braking, always maintain a safe distance between you and ob- jects ahead. Vehicle speeds shouldalways be reduced during extreme road conditions. BRAKE PAD WEAR INDICATOR
The front brake disc pads are fitted with
an audible wear indicator which will
cause a high pitched noise to be emit-
ted when the remaining amount of fric-
tion lining is below the specified value.
When the wear indicator is heard, the
brake pads should be replaced without
delay to avoid damage occurring to the
brake discs and a severe reduction in
braking efficiency.

ACOUSTIC WARNING SOUND

The acoustic warning chime sounds
when the tail lights are on and the door
in driver side is open. This prevents the
battery from discharging when the car
is left with the tail lights on. The chime

fuel remaining in the fuel tank.

The fuel gauge is not intended to

MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH
Turn Signal Operation
To signal an intention to turn right, the
switch lever should be pressed down.
To signal an intention to turn left, the
switch lever should be pushed upwards.
In both instances, the turn signal lights
on one side of the car will flash and the
warning light located in the instrument
cluster will flash in sympathy. Upon
completion of the manoeuvre, the lever
will, under normal circumstances, re-
turn to the "Off" position. However, if
the manoeuvre involved only a small
movement of the steering wheel, the
signal may need to be cancelled manu-
ally. If either turn signal indicator flashes
more rapidly than normal or refuses to
flash at all, a malfunction of the turn
signal system may exist. SB220B1-E
Lane Change Signal
To indicate an intention to change lanes,
moving the lever slightly towards the
direction of the relevant turn signal will
cause the turn signal lights to flash.
When the lever is released, it will return
to the "off" position.

(1) Do not race the engine or sudden
accelerate the engine immediately after start it. If the engine is cold,allow the engine to idle for severalseconds before it is driven to en-sure sufficient lubrication of the turbo charger unit.
(2) After high speed or extended driv- ing, requiring a heavy engine load, the engine should be allowed to idleabout 1 minute before turning it off.This idle time will allow the turbo charger to cool prior to shutting the engine off.
WARNING:
Do not turn the engine off immedi-ately after it has been subjected to a heavy load. Doing so may cause severe damage to the engine orturbo charger unit.
WARNING:
Be sure that the clutch is fully de-pressed when starting a manualtransaxle vehicle. Otherwise thereis the potential to cause damage tothe vehicle or injury to someone inside or outside the vehicle as a result of the forward or backwardmovement of the vehicle that willoccur if the clutch is not depressedwhen the vehicle is started. o Keep your car in good condition. For
better fuel economy and reduced maintenance costs, maintain yourcar in accordance with the mainte-nance schedule in Section 5. If you drive your car in severe conditions, more frequent maintenance is re-quired (see Section 5 for details).
o Keep your car clean. For maximum service, your car should be keptclean and free of corrosive materi- als. It is especially important that mud, dirt, ice, etc. not be allowed toaccumulate on the underside of thecar. This extra weight can result inincreased fuel consumption and alsocontribute to corrosion.
o Travel lightly. Don't carry unneces-
sary weight in your car. Weight is anenemy of good fuel economy.
o Don't let the engine idle longer than necessary. If you are waiting (andnot in traffic), turn off your engine and restart only when you're ready to go.
o Remember, your car does not re-
quire extended warm-up. As soonas the engine is running smoothly,you can drive away. In very cold weather, however, give your engine a slightly longer warm-up period. o Don't "lug" or "over-rev" the engine.
Lugging is driving too slowly in toohigh a gear resulting in the enginebucking. If this happens to you, shiftto a lower gear. Over-revving is racing the engine beyond its safe limit. This can beavoided by shifting at the recom-mended speeds.
o Use your air conditioning sparingly.
The air conditioning system is oper- ated by the engine power so your fuel economy is reduced when youuse it.
