Air Bag Readiness Light
There is an air bag readiness light on the instrument
panel, which shows the air bag symbol. The system
checks the air bag's electrical system for malfunctions.
The light tells you if there is an electrical problem.
The system check includes the air bag sensors, the air
bag modules, the wiring and the crash sensing and
diagnostic module.
This light will come on
when you start your
vehicle, and it will ¯ash for
a few seconds. Then
the light should go out.
This means the system is
ready.
If the air bag readiness light stays on after you start the
vehicle or comes on when you are driving, your air
bag system may not work properly. Have your vehicle
serviced right away.{CAUTION:
If the air bag readiness light stays on after you
start your vehicle, it means the air bag system
may not be working properly. The air bags in
your vehicle may not in¯ate in a crash, or they
could even in¯ate without a crash. To help
avoid injury to yourself or others, have your
vehicle serviced right away if the air bag
readiness light stays on after you start your
vehicle.
The air bag readiness light should ¯ash for a few
seconds when you turn the ignition key to RUN. If the
light doesn't come on then, have it ®xed so it will
be ready to warn you if there is a problem.

Readings in either warning zone indicate a possible
problem in the electrical system. Have the vehicle
serviced as soon as possible.
Brake System Warning Light
When the ignition is on, the brake system warning light
will come on when you set your parking brake. The
light will stay on if your parking brake doesn't release
fully. If it stays on after your parking brake is fully
released, it means you have a brake problem. A chime
may also sound when the light comes on.
Your vehicle's hydraulic brake system is divided into two
parts. If one part isn't working, the other part can still
work and stop you. For good braking, though, you need
both parts working well.
If the warning light comes on, there could be a brake
problem. Have your brake system inspected right away.This light should come on brie¯y when you turn the
ignition key to RUN. If it doesn't come on then, have it
®xed so it will be ready to warn you if there's a
problem.
If the light comes on while you are driving, pull off the
road and stop carefully. You may notice that the pedal is
harder to push. Or, the pedal may go closer to the
¯oor. It may take longer to stop. If the light is still on,
have the vehicle towed for service. See

{CAUTION:
Your brake system may not be working
properly if the brake system warning light is
on. Driving with the brake system warning light
on can lead to an accident. If the light is still
on after you have pulled off the road and
stopped carefully, have the vehicle towed for
service.

Anti-Lock Brake System Warning
Light
With the anti-lock brake
system, this light will come
on when you start your
engine and may stay on for
several seconds. That's
normal. A chime may also
sound when the light
comes on.
If the light stays on, or comes on when you're driving,
your vehicle needs service. If the regular brake
system warning light isn't on, you still have brakes, but
you don't have anti-lock brakes. If the regular brake
system warning light is also on, you don't have anti-lock
brakes and there's a problem with your regular
brakes. See
Brake System Warning Light on page 3-36earlier in this section.
The anti-lock brake system warning light should come
on brie¯y when you turn the ignition key to RUN. If
the light doesn't come on then, have it ®xed so it will be
ready to warn you if there is a problem.
Engine Coolant Temperature Gage
This gage shows the engine coolant temperature. If the
gage pointer moves into the red area, it means that
your engine coolant has overheated. If you have been
operating your vehicle under normal driving conditions,
you should pull off the road, stop your vehicle and
turn off the engine as soon as possible.

This light should come on, as a check to show you it is
working, when the ignition is on and the engine is
not running. If the light does not come on, have it
repaired. This light will also come on during a
malfunction in one of two ways:
·Light FlashingÐ A mis®re condition has been
detected. A mis®re increases vehicle emissions
and may damage the emission control system on
your vehicle. Diagnosis and service may be
required.
·Light On SteadyÐ An emission control system
malfunction has been detected on your vehicle.
Diagnosis and service may be required.
If the Light Is Flashing
The following may prevent more serious damage to
your vehicle:
·Reducing vehicle speed.
·Avoiding hard accelerations.
·Avoiding steep uphill grades.
·If you are towing a trailer, reduce the amount of
cargo being hauled as soon as it is possible.If the light stops ¯ashing and remains on steady, see ªIf
the Light Is On Steadyº following.
If the light continues to ¯ash, when it is safe to do so,
stop the vehicle.Find a safe place to park your vehicle.
Turn the key off, wait at least 10 seconds and restart
the engine. If the light remains on steady, see ªIf
the Light Is On Steadyº following. If the light is still
¯ashing, follow the previous steps, and see your dealer
for service as soon as possible.
If the Light Is On Steady
You may be able to correct the emission system
malfunction by considering the following:
Did you recently put fuel into your vehicle?
If so, reinstall the fuel cap, making sure to fully install
the cap. See
Filling Your Tank on page 5-7. The
diagnostic system can determine if the fuel cap has
been left off or improperly installed. A loose or missing
fuel cap will allow fuel to evaporate into the atmosphere.
A few driving trips with the cap properly installed
should turn the light off.

Change Engine Oil Light
When the CHANGE ENG OIL light comes on, it means
that service is required for your vehicle. SeeScheduled
Maintenance on page 6-4andEngine Oil on page 5-15for more information.
Once the engine oil has been changed, the CHANGE
ENG OIL light must be reset. Until it is reset, the light will
be displayed when the engine is on.
Security Light
This light will come on brie¯y when you turn the key
toward START. The light will stay on until the engine
starts.
If the light ¯ashes, the Passlock
žsystem has entered a
tamper mode. If the vehicle fails to start, seePasslockž
on page 2-23.
If the light comes on continuously while driving and
stays on, there may be a problem with the Passlock
ž
system. Your vehicle will not be protected by Passlockž,
and you should see your dealer.

Personalization
You can program certain features to a preferred setting
for up to two people. Press the personalization button
to scroll through the following personalization features.
All of the personalization options may not be available
on your vehicle. Only the options available will be
displayed on your DIC.

·AUTOMATIC UNLOCKING
·SEAT POSITION RECALL
·PERIMETER LIGHTING
·REMOTE LOCK FEEDBACK

The driver's preferences are recalled by pressing the
unlock button on the remote keyless entry transmitter or
by pressing the appropriate memory button 1 or 2
located on the driver's door.
Alarm Warning Type
Press the personalization button until ALARM
WARNING TYPE appears in the display. To select your
personalization for alarm warning type, press the
select button while ALARM WARNING TYPE is
displayed on the DIC. Pressing the select button will
scroll through the following choices:
·ALARM WARNING: BOTH (default): If you choose
BOTH, the headlamps will ¯ash and the horn will
chirp when the alarm is active.
·ALARM WARNING: OFF: If you choose OFF, there
will be no alarm warning on activation.
·ALARM WARNING: HORN: If you choose HORN,
the horn will chirp when the alarm is active.
·ALARM WARNING: LAMPS: If you choose LAMPS,
the headlamps will ¯ash when the alarm is active.
Choose one of the four settings and press the
personalization button while it is displayed on the DIC to
select it and move on to the next feature. For more

Automatic Locking
Press the personalization button until AUTOMATIC
LOCKING appears in the display. To select your
personalization for automatic locking, press the select
button while AUTOMATIC LOCKING is displayed on the
DIC. Pressing the select button will scroll through the
following choices:
·LOCK DOORS OUT OF PARK (default): If you
choose for the doors to lock out of park, the
doors will lock when the vehicle is shifted out of
PARK (P).
·LOCK DOORS MANUALLY: If you choose for the
doors to lock manually, the doors will not be
locked automatically.
·LOCK DOORS WITH SPEED: If you choose for the
doors to lock with speed, the doors will lock when
the vehicle speed is above 8 mph (13 km/h) for
three seconds.
Choose one of the three settings and press the
personalization button while it is displayed on the DIC to
select it and move on to the next feature. For more

Automatic Unlocking
Press the personalization button until AUTOMATIC
UNLOCKING appears in the display. To select
your personalization for automatic unlocking, press the
select button while AUTOMATIC UNLOCKING is
displayed on the DIC. Pressing the select button will
scroll through the following choices:
·UNLOCK ALL IN PARK (default): If you choose for
all the doors to unlock in PARK (P), all of the doors
will unlock when the vehicle is shifted into
PARK (P).
·UNLOCK ALL AT KEY OUT: If you choose for all
the doors to unlock at key out, all of the doors will
unlock when the key is taken out of the ignition.
·UNLOCK DOORS MANUALLY: If you choose for
the doors to unlock manually, the doors will not
be unlocked automatically.
·UNLOCK DRIVER IN PARK: If you choose for the
driver's door to unlock in park, the driver's door
will be unlocked when the vehicle is shifted
into PARK (P).
Choose one of the four settings and press the
personalization button while it is displayed on the DIC to
select it and move on to the next feature. For more

Seat Position Recall
Press the personalization button until SEAT POSITION
RECALL appears in the display. To select your
personalization for seat position recall, press the select
button while SEAT POSITION RECALL is displayed
on the DIC. Pressing the select button will scroll through
the following choices:
·SEAT POSITION RECALL OFF (default): If you
choose seat recall off, the memory seat position
you saved will only be recalled when the memory
button1 or 2 is pressed.
·SEAT POSITION RECALL AT KEY IN: If you
choose seat recall at key in, the memory seat
position you saved will be recalled when you put
the key in the ignition.
·SEAT POSITION RECALL ON REMOTE: If you
choose seat recall on remote, the memory seat
position you saved will be recalled when you unlock
the vehicle with the remote keyless entry
transmitter.
Choose one of the three settings and press the
personalization button while it is displayed on the DIC to
select it and move on to the next feature. For more

page 2-54.
Perimeter Lighting
Press the personalization button until PERIMETER
LIGHTING appears in the display. To select your
personalization for perimeter lighting, press the select
button while PERIMETER LIGHTING is displayed on the
DIC. Pressing the select button will scroll through the
following choices:
·PERIMETER LIGHTING ON (default)
·PERIMETER LIGHTING OFF
If you choose for perimeter lighting to be on, the
headlamps and back-up lamps will come on for
40 seconds, if it is dark enough outside, when you
unlock the vehicle with the remote keyless entry
transmitter.
Choose one of the two settings and press the
personalization button while it is displayed on the DIC to
select it and move on to the next feature.
