1. Inspect:
9Front fork smooth action
Operate the front brake and stroke the
front fork.
Unsmooth action/oil leakage Repair or
replace.
Drive chain slack adjustment steps:
9Loosen the axle nut 1and locknuts 2.
9Adjust chain slack by turning the
adjusters 3.
To tighten Turn adjuster 3 3
counter-
clockwise.
To loosen Turn adjuster 3 3
clockwise
and push wheel forward.
9Turn each adjuster exactly the same amount
to maintain correct axle alignment. (There are
marks aon each side of chain puller align-
ment.)
NOTE:
Turn the adjuster so that the chain is in line
with the sprocket, as viewed from the rear.
cC
Too small chain slack will overload the
engine and other vital parts; keep the
slack within the specified limits.
9Tighten the axle nut while pushing down the
drive chain.
9Tighten the locknuts.
Axle nut:
125 Nm (12.5 m•kg, 90 ft•lb)
Locknut:
16 Nm (1.6 m•kg, 11 ft•lb)

HINWEIS:
Den Einsteller drehen, so daß die
Kette mit dem Kettenrad ausge-
richtet ist, wenn von hinten darauf
geblickt wird.

Überrmäßige Kettenspannung
führt zu überlastung des Motors
und anderer wichtiger Teile; die
Kettenspannung daher inner-
halb des spezifizierten Berei-
ches halten.
9Die Achsmuttern festziehen,
während die Antriebskette nach
unten gedrückt wird.
9Die Sicherungsmuttern festziehen.
3. Régler:

ne soit alignée avec la couronne,
vue par l’arrière.

des efforts excessifs au moteur et
aux organes de transmission;
maintenir la tension de la chaîne
dans les limites spécifiées.
9Serrer l’écrou de l’axe tout en
enfonçant la chaîne secondaire.

Abweichung von Spezifikation
Einstellen.
HINWEIS:
9Den Reifen im kalten Zustand prüfen.
9Lockere Reifenwulststopper ermögli-
chen ein Abrutschen des Reifens von
der Felge, wenn der Reifendruck nie-
der ist.
9Ein geneigter Reifenventilschaft zeigt
an, daß der Reifen aus seiner Position
auf der Felge verrutscht ist.
9Falls der Reifenventilschaft geneigt ist,
dann rutscht der Reifen wahrscheinlich
aus seiner Position. In diesem Fall
muß die Reifenposition berichtigt wer-
den.
INSPEKTION UND FESTZIEHEN
DER SPEICHEN
1. Prüfen:

Biegung/Beschädigung
Erneuern.
2. Festziehen:
9Speichen
HINWEIS:
Unbedingt die Speichen vor und nach
dem Einfahren nachziehen. Nach
einer übungsfahrt oder nach einem
Rennen sind die Speichen auf Locke-
rung zu prüfen.
INSPEKTION DES RADES

NOTA:
9Controllare lo pneumatico mentre è
freddo.
9Allentare i dispositivi di arresto del
tallone, fare scivolare lo pneumatico
fuori dalla sua posizione sul cerchione
quando la pressione dello pneumatico
è bassa.
9L’inclinazione del gambo della valvo-
la dello pneumatico indica che lo
pneumatico scivola fuori dalla sua
posizione sul cerchione.
9Se si trova inclinato il gambo della
valvola dello pneumatico, si ritiene
che lo pneumatico stia scivolando
fuori dalla sua posizione. Correggere
la posizione dello pneumatico.

9Une tige de soupape de pneu inclinée
indique que le pneu se détache de sa
position sur la jante.
9Si la tige de soupape de pneu est incli-
née, le pneu a tendance à se détacher
de sa position. Corriger la position du
pneu.

rock the fork assembly back and forth.

Turn the handlebar lock to lock.

Steering ring nut adjustment steps:
9Remove the number plate.
9Remove the handlebar and handle crown.
9Loosen the ring nut 1using the ring nut
wrench 2.
9Tighten the ring nut 3using ring nut wrench

NOTE:
Set the torque wrench to the ring nut wrench
so that they form a right angle.

9Loosen the ring nut one turn.
9Retighten the ring nut using the ring nut
wrench.

Avoid over-tightening.
9Check the steering shaft by turning it lock to
lock. If there is any binding, remove the
steering shaft assembly and inspect the
steering bearings.
9Install the handle crown 5, plain washer,
steering shaft nut 6, handlebar 7, handle-
bar holder 8 and number plate 9.
NOTE:
9The upper handlebar holder should be
installed with the punched mark aforward.
9Insert the end of fuel breather hose 0into
the hole of the number plate.

First tighten the bolts on the front side of
the handlebar holder, and then tighten the
bolts on the rear side.

IGNITION TIMING CHECK
1. Remove:
9Fuel tank
Refer to “SEAT, FUEL TANK AND SIDE
COVERS” section in the CHAPTER 4.
9Spark plug
9Crankcase cover (left)
2. Attach:
9Dial gauge 1
9Spark plug hole dial stand 2
3. Rotate the magneto rotor 1until the
piston reaches top dead center (TDC).
When this happens, the needle on the dial
gauge will stop and reverse directions even
though the rotor is being turned in the same
direction.
4. Set the dial gauge to zero at TDC.
5. From TDC, rotate the rotor clockwise
until the dial gauge indicates that the
piston is at a specified distance from TDC.
6. Check:
9Ignition timing
Punch mark aon rotor should be aligned
with punch mark bon stator.
Not aligned Adjust.
Dial gauge:

Ignition timing (B.T.D.C.):
0.52 mm (0.020 in)

HANDLING NOTE

Do not remove the radiator cap when the
engine and radiator are hot. Scalding hot
fluid and steam may be blown out under
pressure, which could cause serious in-
jury.
When the engine has cooled, open the ra-
diator cap by the following procedure:
Place a thick rag, like a towel, over the
radiator cap, slowly rotate the cap counter-
clockwise to the detent. This procedure al-
lows any residual pressure to escape.
When the hissing sound has stopped,
press down on the cap while turning coun-
terclockwise and remove it.
