FOLDING UP THIRD SEATS 1. Move the seat to the rear most posi- tion. Lower the head restraint to the
lowest position. Unlock the seatback
and fold it down.

the folded seatback.
Folding up the third seats will enlarge the
luggage compartment. See “Luggage stow-
age precautions” on page 292 in Section
2 for precautions when loading luggage.

2. Unlock the seat leg by pulling thelock release lever on the rear of the
seat cushion and swing the whole
seat up and forward.
CAUTION
Make sure people or luggage are
clear from the seat. Then, hold the
seat and slowly move it. Otherwise,
people may be injured or luggage
may be damaged, if the seat hits
them.
When folding up the seat, be care-
ful not to get your hands or feet
pinched in the seat.
3. Take the holding strap out of itshole which is on the rear of the sec-
ond seat (For the location of the
strap, see “—Folding up second
seats” on page 47 in this section.),
and hang the strap onto the anchor.
Next, pull the strap on the free end
to secure the seat.
When returning the third seats to its origi-
nal position, put the holding strap into the
hole.

CAUTION
When folding up the third seats, fix
the seats securely by adjusting the
length of the holding strap. Failure
to do so may cause an unexpected
accident or severe injury in the
event of emergency braking or a
collision.
When returning seats to their origi-
nal position, observe the following
precautions in order to prevent per-
sonal injury in a collision or sud-
den stop:
Be careful not to get your hands or
feet pinched in the seat.
Make sure the seat is securely
locked by pushing forward and rear-
ward on the top of the seatback or
by trying to pull up the edge of the
bottom cushion. Failure to do so
will prevent the seat belt from oper-
ating properly.
Make sure the seat belts are not
twisted or caught under the seat
and are arranged in their proper
position and are ready to use.
BEFORE REMOVING THIRD SEATS1. Stow the third seat belt buckles as shown in the illustration.
This prevents the buckles from falling out
when you remove the third seats.
NOTICE
The seat belt buckles must be stowed
before you remove the third seats.
2. When removing the third seats, pass the third seat belts through the
hangers.
This prevents the shoulder belt from being
damaged.
CAUTION
The seat belt must be removed from
the hanger when the seat belts is in
use.

3. To stow the center seat belt, pull itslightly out of its cover. It will auto-
matically roll back partway. Roll the
seat belt backwards as shown above
and insert it into the slot of its cov-
er. Make sure the tabs are securely
locked in the cover.

2. Pull the center handle (2) up whileholding up the left side lever (1) un-
der the seat, lift the seat and remove
it toward you.
Removing the third seats will enlarge the
luggage compartment. See “Luggage stow-
age precautions” on page 292 in Section
2 for precautions when loading luggage.To reinstall the third seats, do this; 1. Hook the front legs to the front an- chors.
2. Lock the rear legs on the rear an- chors.
The direction marked “L” or “R”, which
shows the location, is on the rear of
each seat cushion, so install each seat
according to the mark.
CAUTION
When removing or reinstalling the
seat, observe the following to prevent
personal injury:
Do not fold or remove the seat
while the vehicle is moving.
Be careful not to get your hands or
feet pinched in the seat.
Be careful not to hit the removed
seat against a person or drop it on
yourself.
After folding or installing the seat,
push it forward and backward to
make sure it is locked in position.
To prevent personal injury in a colli-
sion or sudden stop:
Do not sit on or place anything on
the folded seatback while driving.
Do not leave the removed seat
loose in the vehicle.
Do not try to sit on or place any-
thing on the removed seat.
When reinstalling the seat, be care-
ful not to hit the seat against you
or inside of the vehicle.

The seat belt buckles of the second
and third seats can be stowed when
not in use.
Seat belt buckles must be stowed before
you fold the seat back. (See “—Folding up
second seats” on page 47, “—Folding up
third seats” on page 51 and “—Removing
third seats” on page 54 in this section.)
STOWING THE CENTER SEAT BELT OF
THE THIRD SEATS
To stow the center seat belt of the third
seats, pull the seat belt out of its cov-
er. It will automatically roll back part-
way. Roll the seat belt backward and
insert it into the slot of its cover as
shown above. Make sure the tabs are
securely locked in the cover.
Seat belt must be stowed before you fold
the seatback. (See “—Folding up third
seats” on page 51 or “—Removing third
seats” on page 54 in this section.)
NOTICE
Stow the center seat belt of the third
seats except when you are wearing it.

To get the tools, you need to fold up the
right side second seat. As for the opera-
tion of folding up the seat, see “—Folding
up second seats” on page 47 in Section
1 3.
To prepare yourself for an emergency, you
should fam iliarize yourself with the use of
the jack, each of the tools and their stor-
age locations.Turn the jack joint by hand.
To remove: Turn the joint in direction 1
until the jack is free.
To store: Turn the joint in direction 2 until
the jack is firmly secured to prevent it
flying forward during a collision or s udden
braking.To remove the spare tire:
1. Put a jack handle and jack handle ex- tension together as shown in the il-
lustration.

INSIDE THE VEHICLE
Items listed below should be checked
regularly, e.g. while performing periodic
services, cleaning the vehicle, etc.
Lights
Make sure the headlights, stop lights, tail
lights, turn signal lights, and other lights
are all working. Check headlight aim.
Service reminder indicators and warning
buzzers
Check that all service reminder indicators
and warning buzzers function properly.
Steering wheel
Check that it has the specified free play.
Be alert for changes in steering condition,
such as hard steering or strange noise.
Seats
Check that all seat controls such as seat
adjusters, seatback recliner, etc. operate
smoothly and that all latches lock securely
in any position. Check that the head re-
straint move up and down smoothly and
that the locks hold securely in any latched
position. For folding down rear seatbacks,
swing up rear seat cushions and detach-
able temporary third seat, check that the
latches lock securely.Seat belts
Check that the seat belt system such as
buckles, retractors and anchors operate
properly and smoothly. Make sure the belt
webbing is not cut, frayed, worn or dam-
aged.
Accelerator pedal
Check the pedal for smooth operation and
uneven pedal effort or catching.
Brake pedal
Check the pedal for smooth operation and
that the pedal has the proper clearance.
Check the brake booster function.
Brakes
At a safe place, check that the brakes do
not pull to one side when applied.
Parking brake
Check that the pedal has the proper travel
and that, on a safe incline, your vehicle
is held securely with only the parking
brake applied.
Automatic transmission “Park” mecha-
nism
Check the lock release button of the se-
lector lever for proper and smooth opera-
tion. On a safe incline, check that your
vehicle is held securely with the selector
lever in “P” position and all brakes re-
leased.
IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT
Items listed below should be checked
from time to time, e.g. each time when
refueling.
Washer fluid
Make sure there is sufficient fluid in the
tank. See page 375 in Section 7 3 for
additional information.
Engine coolant level
Make sure the coolant level is between
the “F” and “L” lines on the see through
reservoir when the engine is cold. See
page 360 in Section 7 2 for additional
information.
Radiator, condenser and hoses
Check that the front of the radiator and
condenser are clean and not blocked with
leaves, dirt, or insects. See page 362 in
Section 7 2 for additional information.
