PETROL/LPG TWIN FUEL VERSION167
Operation The twin fuel system allows petrol or liquid petroleum gas (LPG) to be
used indifferently. Press switch 1 in the centre of the
centre console.
Different statuses of indicator light 2:
Ð flashing; request for operation using LPG,
Ð fixed; operating using LPG,
Ð off; operating using petrol.
Starting Irrespective of the position of switch 1, the engine starts using petrol.
The switch to operation using LPG will take place if switch 1 is in the LPG
position. The LPG indicator light flashes until the engine reaches an adequate
temperature. The switch from one fuel to the other is displayed by the switching on/switching
off of indicator light 2.
When the minimum LPG level is reached, while driving, this is indicated by flashingof switch 2; the system then switches to operation using petrol automaitcally.
It is advisable to drive in petrol mode from time to time to keep the petrolinjection system in good condition. If switch
2 flashes rapidly, move switch 1 to the petrol position, then
return to LPG mode. If switch 2 still flashes rapidly, consult a PEUGEOT dealer.

Filling the LPG tank
(Capacity, approximately 46 litres)
Ð switch off the ignition,
Ð unscrew the cap protecting thefiller opening,
Ð lock the filler nozzle onto the opening (if necessary, screw the appropriate adapter*, located inthe insulated compartment, ontothe filler opening first),
Ð push the button on the pump,
Ð once filling has stopped automati- cally, unlock the filler nozzle,
Ð screw the protective cap back onto the filler opening.
* According to destination. Petrol gauge When the low petrol level indicator comes on, fill the tank without delayas the engine can only start usingpetrol. Furthermore, a low petrollevel may result in fuel circuit faults.
Gas gauge If the outside temperature is high, the gas level indicated by the fuelgauge may be slightly higher thanthe actual level. Safety advice The safety valve must be closed before any main-
tenance or repair work is carried
out on your vehicle. To close it,switch off the ignition. Ensure that there is no risk that the loads carried may damagethe tank.
Testing the tank Decree of 18/01/43 and applica-
tion of article 3 of the A.M. of
24/11/82. The maximum interval between successive tests is eight years.
However, the test must be repeat-ed whenever the vehicle is sold, ifthis sale takes place more than 5 years following the last test. It is imperative that any work on the LPG feed system is carried
out by a PEUGEOT dealer.

Range The display shows the distance that can still be covered with the fuelremaining in the tank. Note:this figure may rise if there is a
change in driving style or road sur- face, causing a significant drop incurrent fuel consumption. If there are less than 3 litres of fuel in the tank, only three segments will bedisplayed. Average consumption This is the ratio between the amount of fuel consumed and the distancetravelled since the computer was lastreset to zero.
Current fuel consumption This gives the fuel consumption recorded during the last two sec-
onds. This function is only displayedwhen the vehicle is travelling at morethan 12 m.p.h. (20 km/h). Average speed This is obtained by dividing the dis- tance travelled by the period of timethe vehicle has been in use (with theignition on), since the computer waslast reset to zero.Distance travelled This shows the distance travelled since the computer was last reset tozero. After the trip computer has been reset to zero, the range databecomes meaningful only after thevehicle has been in use for a certainperiod. If horizontal segments are displayed instead of figures when driving, con-
tact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Puncture Insulated storage compartment This is located in the boot and con- tains:
Ð the temporary tyre repair cans 1
(your 406 LPG does not have a spare wheel),
Ð the adaptors 2 necessary for
filling the LPG tank in some countries,
Ð the towing eye 3.
Fuses The LPG functions are protected by the two fuses Ain the fuse box
located in the engine compartment.
Using the repair cans (Refer to the directions on the cans also)
Ð if possible, remove the object
which caused the puncture,
Ð rotate the wheel so that the valve is in the same position as the figures 2 or 10 on a clock,
Ð shake the cans vigorously before use. In very cold weather, warmthe cans between your hands forfew minutes,
Ð hold the valve with one hand and with the other press the injectionnozzle on the can firmly onto thevalve, holding it straight,
Ð maintain the pressure firmly for one minute, Ð carry out the same operation with
the second can, then drive imme-
diately, at a moderate speed , to
the nearest garage.
The cans enable you to carry out
a temporary repair. After use, the tyre must be changed. As the cans are pressurized, they must not be exposed to a temper-ature above 50 ¡C. Store them away from heat in the insulated storage compartment.
