Precautions For Liquid GasketEBS00BAU
REMOVAL AND LIQUID GASKET
lAfter removing the mounting bolts and nuts, disconnect and
remove the liquid gasket using a seal cutter.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the mating surfaces.
lIn areas where the cutter is difficult to use, use a plastic hammer
to lightly tap the gasket applied area.
CAUTION:
If for some unavoidable reason a tool such as a flat-blade
screwdriver is used, be careful not to damage the mating sur-
faces.
LIQUID GASKET APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Using a scraper, remove the old liquid gasket adhering to the
gasket application surface and the mating surface.
lRemove the liquid gasket completely from the groove of the gas-
ket application surface, mounting bolts, and bolt holes.
2. Wipe the gasket application surface and the mating surface with
white gasoline (lighting and heating use) to remove adhering
moisture, grease and foreign materials.
3. Attach the liquid gasket to the tube presser.
Use Genuine Liquid Gasket or equivalent.
4. Apply the gasket without breaks to the specified location with the
specified dimensions.
lIf there is a groove for the liquid gasket application, apply the
gasket to the groove.
lAs for the bolt holes, normally apply the gasket inside the holes.
Occasionally, it should be applied outside the holes. Make sure
to read the service manual.
lWithin five minutes of gasket application, install the mating com-
ponent.
lIf the liquid gasket protrudes, wipe it off immediately.
lDo not retighten after the installation.
lAfter 30 minutes or more have passed from the installation, fill
the engine oil and coolant.
CAUTION:
If there are specific instructions in the service manual, observe
them.

WAR NIN G:
Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Serious burns could occur from high pressure
coolant escaping from the radiator.
REMOVAL
1. Remove the under cover, splash cover (right), and drive belt.
2. Drain engine coolant. Refer toCO-30, "
DRAINING ENGINE COOLANT".
CAUTION:
Perform when the engine is cold.
3. Support the bottom of the oil pan with a floor jack etc, and remove the right engine mount bracket (front
side of the engine).
4. Remove the water pump pulley.
lLoosen the pulley bolts after fixing the pulley using a screwdriver etc.
5. Remove engine mount bracket.
6. Remove the water pump.
lCoolant will leak from the cylinder block, so have a receptacle ready below.
CAUTION:
lHandle the water pump vane so that it does not contact any other parts.
lWater pump cannot be disassembled and should be replaced as a unit.
INSPECTION AFTER REMOVAL
lVisually check that there is no significant dirt or rusting on the
water pump body and vane.
lCheck that there is no looseness in the vane shaft, and that it
turns smoothly when rotated by hand.
lIf there are any unusualness, replace the water pump assembly.
INSTALLATION
lInstall in the reverse order of removal

FUEL WARNING LAMP OPERATION CHECK
1. Turn ignition switch “OFF”.
2. Disconnect fuel level sensor unit harness connector B125.
3. Connect a resistor (80W) between fuel level sensor unit harness
connector terminal 1(G) and ground.
4. Turn ignition switch “ON”.
The fuel warning lamp should come on.
OIL PRESSURE SWITCH CHECK
Check the continuity between the terminals of oil pressure switch
and body ground.
DIODE CHECK
lCheck continuity using an ohmmeter.
lDiode is functioning properly if test results are as shown in the
figure at left.
lCheck diodes at the combination meter harness connector
instead of on the combination meter assembly. Refer toDI-40,
"Wiring Diagram—WARN—/LHDModels"orDI-45, "Wiring
Diagram—WARN—/RHDModels".
NOTE:
Specification may vary depending on the type of tester. Before
performing this inspection, be sure to refer to the instruction
manual for the tester to be used.

lDo not disassemble ECM.
lIf a battery terminal is disconnected, the memory will return
to the ECM value.
The ECM will now start to self-control at its initial value.
Engine operation can vary slightly when the terminal is dis-
connected. However, this is not an indication of a problem.
Do not replace parts because of a slight variation.
lWhen connecting ECM harness connector, fasten it
securely with a lever as far as it will go as shown at right.
lWhen connecting or disconnecting pin connectors into or
from ECM, take care not to damage pin terminals (bend or
break).
Make sure that there are not any bends or breaks on ECM
pin terminal, when connecting pin connectors.
lSecurely connect ECM harness connectors.
A poor connection can cause an extremely high (surge)
voltage to develop in coil and condenser, thus resulting in
damage to ICs.
lKeep engine control system harness at least 10 cm (4 in)
away from adjacent harness, to prevent engine control sys-
tem malfunctions due to receiving external noise, degraded
operation of ICs, etc.
lKeep engine control system parts and harness dry.
lBefore replacing ECM, perform “ECM Terminals and Refer-
ence Value” inspection and make sure ECM functions prop-
erly. Refer toEC-79
.
lHandle mass air flow sensor carefully to avoid damage.
lDo not disassemble mass air flow sensor.
lDo not clean mass air flow sensor with any type of deter-
gent.
lDo not disassemble electric throttle control actuator.
lEven a slight leak in the air intake system can cause seri-
ous problems.
lDo not shock or jar the camshaft position sensor (PHASE),
crankshaft position sensor (POS).

lTo avoid unnecessary force or tension to hose, use moderately long fuel hose for fuel pressure check.
lDo not use the fuel hose for checking fuel pressure with damage or cracks on it.
lUse Pressure Gauge to check fuel pressure.
3. Remove fuel hose. Refer toEM-17, "
INTAKE MANIFOLD".
lDo not twist or kink fuel hose because it is plastic hose.
lDo not remove fuel hose from quick connector.
lKeep the original fuel hose to be free from intrusion of dust or foreign substances with a suitable cover.
4. Install the fuel pressure gauge as shown in the figure.
lWipe off oil or dirt from hose insertion part using cloth moist-
ened with gasoline.
lApply proper amount of gasoline between top of the fuel tube
and No.1 spool.
lInsert fuel hose for fuel pressure check until it touches the
No.1 spool on fuel tube.
lUse NISSAN genuine hose clamp (part number: 16439
N4710 or 16439 40U00).
lWhen reconnecting fuel line, always use new clamps.
lWhen reconnecting fuel hose, check the original fuel hose for
damage and abnormality.
lUse a torque driver to tighten clamps.
lInstall hose clamp to the position within 1 - 2 mm (0.04 - 0.08
in).
lMake sure that clamp screw does not contact adjacent parts.
5. After connecting fuel hose for fuel pressure check, pull the hose
with a force of approximately 98 N (10 kg, 22 lb) to confirm fuel
tube does not come off.
6. Turn ignition switch "ON", and check for fuel leakage.
7. Start engine and check for fuel leakage.
8. Read the indication of fuel pressure gauge.
lDo not perform fuel pressure check with system operating. Fuel pressure gauge may indicate false
readings.
lDuring fuel pressure check, confirm for fuel leakage from fuel connection every 3 minutes.
9. If result is unsatisfactory, go to next step.
10. Check the following.
lFuel hoses and fuel tubes for clogging
lFuel filter for clogging
lFuel pump
lFuel pressure regulator for clogging
If OK, replace fuel pressure regulator.
If NG, repair or replace.Tightening torque: 1 - 1.5 N·m (0.1 - 0.15 kg-m,
