AF (Alternative Frequency) function: A station providing
good reception is automatically selected if current
reception worsen.

When you push the RDS button briefly, ºRDS SEARCHº is
displayed
and all the FM frequencies are searched. If no RDS
station is found, ºNOTHINGº is displayed for 2 seconds and
then disappears. If the appropriate stations are found,
ºFOUND XXSTº is displayed and began the reception of one
of these stations. (The band is FM type in that case.) If you
want to cancel the RDS function, push the RDS button until you
hear a beep sound. Then, ºRDSº disappears. (RDS is set up
ON initially. In order to turn the RDS on after canceling, push
the button to search appropriate stations. After the RDS
stations are found, RDS will be set up ON.) AF function is ON
when ºRDSº is displayed. REG is fixed to ON mode. (ºREGº
never be displayed.) TRAF (Traffic Announcement) function: A station that
regularly broadcasts traffic information is automatically
located and broadcast when the program starts.

ºTPº bl
inks when the TP mode (Traf fic Program standby mode)
is ON and the TP (Traf fic Program) station is not received. ºTPº
is displayed when the TP station is received.
1. When you push the TRAF button, ºTPº blinks. Also ºTRAF
SEEKº is displayed and a station broadcasting traffic
information is sought. (ºTPº is lit on the display.) When the
station broadcasting traffic information began to be received,
ºTRAF ANNOUNCEº is displayed. If the reception ends, the
display disappears. If any station is not found after circulating
a search, ºNO TRAF INFOº is displayed for 2 seconds and ºTPº
disappears.
2. To cancel the TA mode, push the ºTRAFº button until ºTPº
disappears from the display.

3. When the ºTRAFº button is pushed in the ºTAPEº or ºCDº
mode, a station broadcasting traffic information is sought and
ºTAº appears on the display.
When the traffic information program starts, the ºTAPEº or
ºCDº mode is interrupted and the traffic information is
automatically
broadcast. During a traffic announcement, ºTraf
Announceº will appear on the display. When the program
ends, the initial operation resumes.
Traffic announcement can be canceled by turning RDS off, or
pressing the ºTRAFº button again. (e) TYPE (Program Types)
This button is used for program type (PTY) search of RDS
stations. 8 program types are available as listed here.
When
the RDS search (program type search) is not performed,
the TYPE button is unavailable. It become available in the FM
type±band after RDS search is performed.
If a program type search has previously been performed in
FM1 or FM2, the radio will return to the last active program
type.
If you are already in FM type mode and a program type is not
already being displayed, pushing this button will recall the
display for the current program type.
After a program type is being displayed, subsequent pushes
within 6 seconds will toggle through the available program
types. Pushing the ºTYPEº button repeatedly will increment or
decrement the display through the available program types in
the following order.

(f) MSG (Message)
This button is used to display a radio text message. It is also
used to store and recall radio text messages.
To receive radio text, turn RDS on (see ºRDSº), and tune to an
RDS station that broadcasts radio text messages. When the
radio receives a radio TEXT message, ºMSGº will appear on
the display. Push this button at this time to display the radio text
message. The message display will be canceled if you
activate any function that affects the display. After the entire
messages has been displayed, the message will disappear.
To view the message again, push this button a second time.
To store a radio text message, push and hold this button for
more than 1.7 seconds while the message is being displayed.
A beep will sound, indicating that the message has been
stored. At this time ºMSG STOREDº appears on the display.
Up to three 64±character message can be stored. If 3
messages are already in storage, the oldest message will be
removed to make room for a new message.
To recall a radio text message, push this button for less than
1.7 seconds. The most recently received stored message will
appear on the display, even if it has already been displayed.
Pushing this button for less than 1.7 seconds while the most
recent m
essage is being displayed will recall the newest stored
message. If 2 or more message have been stored, the other
stored messages will be toggled through each time you push
this button (while a stored message is on display).

208If no messages have been stored, or if there are no more
messages to be recalled, ºNO MSG STOREDº will appear on
the display, and the message display will be canceled. The
display then returns to show the program service name. The
message display will be canceled if you activate any function
that affects the display.
Message display can be canceled by pressing any of the
following buttons:
ºAMº, ºFMº, ºCDº, ºTAPEº, ºLOADº, ºSEEKº, ºTUNEº, any
preset, º
SCANº, any audio control, ºRDSº, or ºº. If the
current station is not a traffic program and traffic
announcements is off, pushing ºTRAFº will cancel the display.
The message will be canceled after the entire message has
been displayed.
(g) ºALERTº display
The alert program type sends emergency alert messages. The
radio will receive alert messages if it is on and tuned to an RDS
station, or if the previous station was an RDS station. If the
radio receives an alert announcement, it will interrupt the
previous mode, display ºALERTº .
Cassette tape player operation
(a) Playing a cassette tape

When you insert a cassette tape, the exposed tape should
face to the right.
The player will automatically start when you insert a cassette
tape. At this time, ºPLAYº appears on the display.
If a metal or chrome equivalent cassette tape is put in the
cassette player, the player will automatically adapt to it and
ºMTLº appears on the display.
To stop or eject the cassette tape, push the ºEJECTº button.
Auto±reverse feature: After the cassette player reaches the
end of a tape, it automatically reverses and begins to play the
other side, regardless of whether the cassette was playing or
fast forwarding.

If a cassette is already in the slot, push the ºTAPEº button.
DolbyB Noise Reduction* feature: If you are listening
to a tape that was recorded with Dolby B Noise Reduction,push the button marked with the double±D symbol. The
double±D symbol will appear on the display. Push the button
again to turn off Dolby B NR.
The Dolby NR mode reduces tape noise by about 10 dB. For
best sound reproduction, play your tapes with this button on or
off according to the mode used for recording the tape.
To play a tape recorded without Dolby NR, push the button until
the symbol disappears from the display.

ºFast forwardº button: Push the ºº button to fast forward
a cassette tape. ºFFº appears on the display.
To stop fast forwarding, push the same button or ºTAPEº

ºRPTº button: The repeat feature automatically replays the
current program.
Push the º
RPTº button while the program is playing. When the
program ends, it will automatically be rewound and replayed.
Push the button again to turn off the repeat feature.
There must be at least 5 seconds of blank space between
programs for the repeat feature to work correctly.
ºSKIPº button: The skip feature allows you to fast forward
past long stretches of blank tape. This is especially useful at
the end of cassettes.
Push the ºSKIPº button. The player will automatically skip any
blank portions of 15 seconds or more and play the next
program. To cancel it, push the button once again.

ºAutomatic program selectionº button: The automatic
program selection feature allows you to program your cassette
player to skip forward or backward to locate the song you want
to hear. You can skip up to nine programs at a time.
Push this button on the upper side to skip forward. ºFFº and
the number will appear on the display. Push the button until the
number you want to skip appears on the display. After that, the
player will automatically skip forward.
When the end of the tape is reached, the player automatically
reverses sides and resumes normal play.
