SG020B1-E DAILY OPERATING CHECKSThe following items should be checked on a daily basis or whenever the vehicle is refuelled, which-ever occurs sooner.
o Engine oil level.
o Engine coolant level.
o Power steering fluid level.
o Brake fluid level.
o Windscreen washer fluid level.
o Battery condition.
o Tyre condition and pressures.
o Operation and cleanliness of all lighting equip-
ment.
o Windscreen wiper and washer operation.
o Horn operation.
o Warning lamp operation.
o Adjustment and cleanliness of mirrors.
o Seat and seat belt adjustment and operation.
o Fluid leakage. The vehicle must not be driven if the daily oper- ating checks indicate that any item of equipmentrelated to the safety or roadworthiness of thevehicle is not functioning correctly. SG030A1-E ENGINE OILThe correct engine oil level is of paramount importance. An excessively high or low oil levelmay result in irreparable damage being sus-tained by the engine. The engine oil level must bechecked on a daily basis or whenever the vehicleis refuelled, whichever occurs sooner.In addition, it is imperative that only an approvedgrade and specification of oil is used to avoid thepossibility of serious engine damage and prema-ture wear. The use of "budget price" oil is a falseeconomy that must be avoided if the maximumreliability and useful life is to be obtained from thevehicle.
SG030B02GK-E Recommended Oil A multi grade oil having a specification which meets A.P.I. specification of SH, SG or above isrecommended. The oil viscosity should be se-lected according to the operating environment ofthe engine by means of the table shown below.The engine oil recommendations are complete inthemselves and the use of additives is neitherrequired nor recommended. The use of engineoil additives may result in invalidation of thevehicle warranty.

o The use of a 5W-20 multi grade oil is not
recommended for sustained high speeduse.
o When replacing or adding the oil, below SAE 10W-30 is recommended.Using a high viscosity oil of SAE 15W-40and over makes malfunction of CVVT en-gine when the engine is cool. SG030D1-E ENGINE OIL REPLENISHMENT If the indicated oil level is at or below the lower mark of the dipstick, oil should be added until thelevel is at or below the upper mark.To add oil to the engine, remove the filler cap byrotating in an counterclockwise direction andpour engine oil into the engine. Before checkingthe level again, allow several minutes for the oilto drain into the sump. Replace the oil filler caprotating it in a clockwise direction until tight.The quantity of oil required to raise the level from theminimum to maximum level is approximately 1 litre.
SG030C1-E Engine Oil Level The engine oil level should be checked with the engine at normal operating temperature and thevehicle parked upon level ground.Prior to checking the level, the vehicle should beallowed to stand for several minutes after theengine has been switched off to allow the oil todrain back to the sump.Withdraw the dipstick and wipe it with a clean rag.Replace the dipstick fully and withdraw againwhen the oil level may be read from the stick.Normal oil level is indicated when the oil ispresent between the two marks on the stick. It isnot necessary to add oil if the level is above thelower mark and in any case, oil must not beadded to the degree that the level exceeds theupper mark. Replace the dipstick fully after check-ing the level.

6-6 WARNING: The oil being drained from the engine will behot. Care should be exercised to preventscalding.
4. When the oil has drained from the sump,
replace the drain plug using a new washer ensuring that the plug is not over tightened.
Tightening torque :
4.5 ~ 4.0 kgf.m (1.6/2.0L)4.5 ~ 3.5 kgf.m (2.7L)
5. Remove the oil filter by rotating counterclock- wise, using a proprietary oil filter removal toolif necessary. Note that the oil filter will containapproximately 0.5 litres of oil and this shouldbe collected in a suitable receptacle.
6. Install a new oil filter having smeared the sealing ring with clean oil and rotating clock-wise until the filter contacts the mounting andthen a further one half turn. Do not over-tighten. Tightening torque: 1.2 ~ 1.6 kgf.m.
7. Pour the specified quantity of the recom- mended oil into the engine and replace the filler cap. Start the engine and ensure that nooil leaks exist. Turn off the engine and after acouple minutes, recheck the oil level.
WARNING:Prolonged and repeated contact with usedengine oils may result in serious skin disor-ders including dermatitis and cancer. Avoidcontact with skin as far as possible and al-
G040A02GK-EAT ENGINE OIL AND FILTER REPLACEMENT The engine oil and filter must be changed at the time or mileage interval specified in the mainte-nance schedule. If the vehicle is operated undersevere or adverse conditions, the oil and filtermust be replaced more frequently.To replace the oil and filter, proceed as follows:
1. Ensure that the engine is at normal operating
temperature and park the vehicle on level ground with the parking brake securely ap-plied and the engine turned off.
2. Open the bonnet and remove the oil filler cap.
3. Prepare a suitable receptacle to collect the displaced oil and remove the drain plug fromthe sump.
G350A01A-GAT ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION Function of engine oil Engine oil has the primary function of lubricating and cooling the inside of the engine. Engine oil consumption It is normal that an engine should consume some engine oil while normal driving. The cause of oilconsumption in a normal engine are as follows;
o Engine oil is used to lubricate pistons, piston
rings and cylinders. A thin film of oil is left on the cylinder wall whena piston moves downwards in the cylinder.High negative pressure generated during en-gine operation sucks some of the oil into thecombustion chamber.This oil with some oil of the cylinder wall isburned by the high temperature combustiongases during the combustion process.
o The engine oil consumption is strongly ef- fected by the viscosity and quality of oil,engine rpm and driving condition etc.More engine oil may be consumed undersevere driving conditions such as high speeds,frequent acceleration and deceleration, com-pared to normal driving.

Useonly authorized waste collection facilitiesincluding civic amenity sites and garages forthe disposal of used oil and oil filters. If indoubt, contact the local authority for dis-posal instructions. SG050A1-E ENGINE COOLANT CHECKING AND REPLACING WARNING: Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot, since the system is pressurizedand coolant may be ejected from the radiatorresulting in scalding. SG050B1-E Coolant recommendations
Only ethylene glycol based coolant with a corro- sion inhibitor suited to aluminium alloy enginecomponents should be used in the cooling sys-tem. No further additives or inhibitors should beused. The coolant specific gravity should bechecked as prescribed in the maintenance sched-ule to ensure adequate frost and corrosion pro-tection. In addition, the engine coolant must bereplaced at the specified interval since the corro-sion inhibitor properties deteriorate with time.It is important to note that whilst an increase in theconcentration of anti freeze gives an increase inthe level of frost protection, a solution which is inexcess of 65% anti freeze will result in reducedfrost protection and engine overheating. There-fore the recommended concentration of 50%should not be exceeded for general use.The use of methanol based anti freeze com-pounds may result in engine overheating and willinvalidate the vehicle warranty. NOTE: It is imperative that vehicles fitted with an airconditioning system have a coolant concen-tration of the recommended strength at alltimes. The use of the air conditioning systemwhen the cooling system is filled with wateronly will result in the heater matrix freezingand subsequently bursting.SG050C1-E Engine Coolant LevelThe engine coolant level may be observed through the side of the plastic coolant reservoir(expansion tank) when the engine is cold. If thelevel is below the "LOW" mark, add coolant of thecorrect concentration until the level is betweenthe "LOW" and "Full" marks. If the level fallsbelow the "LOW" mark on a regular basis despitebeing topped up, consult a Hyundai dealer. SG050D1-E To Change the Engine CoolantThe engine coolant should be changed at those intervals specified in the vehicle maintenanceschedule in Section 5. NOTE: Care should be taken to ensure that coolantis not allowed to spill onto the paintworksince the finish may become damaged. Ifcoolant spillage occurs, the affected areashould be rinsed thoroughly with water.
1. Park the vehicle on level ground and ensure
that the parking brake is firmly applied, and the engine allowed to cool.DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS OPERATIONWHILST THE ENGINE IS HOT SINCEBURN-ING OR SCALDING MAY RESULT.
2. Prepare a suitable receptacle to collect the displaced coolant and position this under theradiator drain tap.

6-8 CAUTION: Sparking plugs must only be cleaned usingpurpose designed equipment. Wire brushingmay damage the centre electrode insulatorcausing mis-firing to occur. Only the correctgrade of sparking plug should be used. Useof an incorrect grade may result in seriousengine damage.
3. With the heater temperature control set to the
"HOT" position, remove the radiator cap andopen the radiator drain tap.
4. When the engine coolant has drained com- pletely, close the drain tap ensuring that thisis not over tightened.
5. Prepare a suitable quantity of new engine coolant (refer to section 9) and pour this intothe radiator.
6. Start the engine with the radiator cap still removed and continue to add coolant as thelevel decreases as air is expelled from thesystem. When the level remains constant,replace the radiator cap and replenish thecoolant reservoir.
7. When the engine is hot, check to ensure that no coolant leaks are present.
WARNING:The cooling fan is controlled by engine cool-ant temperature and may sometimes operateeven when the engine is not running. Useextreme caution when working near the bladesof the cooling fan so that you are not injuredby a rotating fan blade. As the engine coolanttemperature decreases, the fan will automati-cally shut off. This is a normal condition. G060B02GK-EAT SPARKING PLUG REPLACEMENT This operation should only be performed when the engine is cold.
1. Remove the engine rocker cover.NOTE: It is recommended that the spark plug forEngine 2.7L should be changed by an autho-rized Hyundai dealer.
2. Remove plug lead from the sparking plug to
be replaced, pulling the lead by the rubber cap. (Pulling the lead may damage the carbonconductor).
3. Clean around the base of the plug to be removed, and install the plug socket ensuringthat the ceramic insulator does not becomedamaged. Turn the socket counterclockwiseto remove the plug.

The wiper blades should be carefully inspected from time to time and cleaned to remove accu-mulations of road film or other debris. To cleanthe wiper blades and arms, use a clean spongeor cloth with a mild soap or detergent and water.If the wipers continue to streak or smear theglass, replace them with genuine Hyundai re-placement. CAUTION:
o Do not operate the wipers on dry glass since rapid wear and damage to thewindscreen glass may result.
o Keep the blade rubber out of contact with petroleum products such as engine oil,petrol etc. The level of windscreen washer fluid availableshould be checked on a daily basis. The level offluid will be visible through the side of the reser-voir. When the fluid is to be replenished, only aproprietary screen wash additive should be usedand in the concentration recommended by themanufacturer. The windscreen washer reservoirhas a total capacity of 3 litres. CAUTION: Engine coolant anti freeze must not be usedin the windscreen washer system since dam-age to the paintwork may result.Undiluted windscreen washer additive mustnot be allowed to come into contact with thepaintwork. If spillage occurs, flush the af-fected area immediately with water. Do notoperate the windscreen washer for more than

NOTE: Basically automatic transaxle fluid is red color.As driving distance increases, the fluid colorturns darkish red gradually. It is normal con-dition and you should not use fluid color as acriterion for replacing the transaxle fluid.You must replace the automatic transaxlefluid in accordance with intervals specified inthe vehicle maintenances schedule in sec-tion 5. CAUTION: The transaxle fluid level must be checkedwith the engine running and at normal oper-ating temperature and therefore care must beexercised to prevent injury occurring throughcontact with rotating or hot parts of the en-gine. G110D02GK-EAT Transaxle fluid level checking The vehicle must be parked on level ground with the parking brake firmly applied and the engine atnormal operating temperature. (Normal operat-ing temperature will only be achieved when thevehicle has been driven for 6 miles or more).With the engine idling and the footbrake applied,the transaxle selector should be moved from the"P" position through to the "L" position and backto the "N" or "P" position.Open the bonnet and remove the transaxle dip-stick, remembering that care must be exercisedto prevent injury occurring through contact withhot or rotating parts of the engine.Wipe the dipstick, replace it fully and promptlyremove it again. The fluid level should be be-tween the upper and lower marks. Fluid needonly be added if the level is at or below the lowermark and must never be increased above the
