Power Door Locks
If your four-door model has power door locks, the switch
is located on the driver's door armrest.
To lock all the doors and
the tailgate, press the
right side of the switch.
To unlock the doors
and the tailgate, press the
left side of the switch.
You can lock all doors from the outside by inserting the
key into either front door lock cylinder, and turning it
toward the front of the vehicle.
If your vehicle is equipped with the remote keyless entry
system, you can also lock and unlock all doors using
the remote keyless entry transmitter. See
Remote
Keyless Entry System Operation on page 2-5.
If your two-door model has power door locks, the switch
is located on the driver's door armrest.To lock both side doors, push the switch forward.
To unlock the doors pull the switch rearward.
The tailgate does not have a power lock, and will
need to be manually locked and unlocked with a key.
You can lock both side doors from the outside by
inserting the key into either front door lock cylinder,
and turning it toward the front of the vehicle.
If your vehicle is equipped with the remote keyless entry
system, you can also lock and unlock the side doors
using the remote keyless entry transmitter. SeeRemote

How to Add Fluid
Here's how to add ¯uid. Refer to the Maintenance
Schedule to determine what kind of ¯uid to use. See
Part D: Recommended Fluids and Lubricants on
page 6-30.
1. Remove the ®ller plug.
2. Remove the drain plug, drain the ¯uid and reinstall
the drain plug.
3. Add ¯uid at the ®ller plug hole. Add only enough
¯uid to bring the ¯uid level up to the bottom of the
®ller plug hole.
4. Reinstall the ®ller plug. Be sure the plug is fully
seated.
Hydraulic Clutch
It is not necessary to regularly check clutch ¯uid unless
you suspect there is a leak in the system. Adding
¯uid won't correct a leak.
A ¯uid loss in this system could indicate a problem.
Have the system inspected and repaired.
When to Check and What to Use
Refer to the Maintenance Schedule to determine how
often you should check the ¯uid level in your clutch
master cylinder reservoir and for the proper ¯uid.

How to Check and Add Fluid
You do not need to check the ¯uid level unless you
suspect a clutch problem. To check the ¯uid level,
look at the markings on the reservoir. If the ¯uid reaches
the MAX line, the ¯uid level is correct.

Brakes
Brake Fluid
Your brake master cylinder reservoir is ®lled with DOT-3
brake ¯uid. SeeEngine Compartment Overview on
page 5-12for the location of the reservoir.
There are only two reasons why the brake ¯uid level
in the reservoir might go down. The ®rst is that the brake
¯uid goes down to an acceptable level during normal
brake lining wear. When new linings are put in, the ¯uid
level goes back up. The other reason is that ¯uid isleaking out of the brake system. If it is, you should have
your brake system ®xed, since a leak means that
sooner or later your brakes will not work well, or will not
work at all.
So, it is not a good idea to ªtop offº your brake ¯uid.
Adding brake ¯uid will not correct a leak. If you add ¯uid
when your linings are worn, then you will have too
much ¯uid when you get new brake linings. You should
add (or remove) brake ¯uid, as necessary, only when
work is done on the brake hydraulic system.
{CAUTION:
If you have too much brake ¯uid, it can spill on
the engine. The ¯uid will burn if the engine is
hot enough. You or others could be burned,
and your vehicle could be damaged. Add brake
¯uid only when work is done on the brake
hydraulic system. See ªChecking Brake Fluidº
in this section.

At Least Twice a Year
Restraint System Check
Make sure the safety belt reminder light and all your belts,
buckles, latch plates, retractors and anchorages are
working properly. Look for any other loose or damaged
safety belt system parts. If you see anything that might
keep a safety belt system from doing its job, have it
repaired. Have any torn or frayed safety belts replaced.
Also look for any opened or broken air bag coverings,
and have them repaired or replaced. (The air bag
system does not need regular maintenance.)
Wiper Blade Check
Inspect wiper blades for wear or cracking. Replace
blade inserts that appear worn or damaged or that
streak or miss areas of the windshield. Also see
Cleaning the Outside of Your Vehicle on page 5-82.
Weatherstrip Lubrication
Silicone grease on weatherstrips will make them last
longer, seal better, and not stick or squeak. Apply
silicone grease with a clean cloth. During very cold,
damp weather more frequent application may be
required. See
Part D: Recommended Fluids and
Lubricants on page 6-30.
Fluid Level Check
Check the transfer case, axle differential(s) and
automatic or manual transmission ¯uid levels and add
as needed. See

Fluid on page 5-23orManual Transmission Fluid on
page 5-26. Check for leaks. A ¯uid loss in these systems
could indicate a problem. Have the system inspected
and repaired at once.
At Least Once a Year
Key Lock Cylinders Service
Lubricate the key lock cylinders with the lubricant
speci®ed in Part D.
Body Lubrication Service
Lubricate all body door hinges. Also lubricate all
hinges and latches, including those for the hood,
rear compartment, glove box door, console door and
folding seat hardware. Part D tells you what to use.
More frequent lubrication may be required when
exposed to a corrosive environment.

Throttle System Inspection
Inspect the throttle system for interference or binding,
and for damaged or missing parts. Replace parts
as needed. Replace any components that have high
effort or excessive wear. Do not lubricate accelerator
and cruise control cables.
Rear Axle and Front Axle
(Four-Wheel-Drive) Service
Check the gear lubricant level and add if needed.

Check the system(s), and repair the system(s) if needed.

Brake System Inspection
Inspect the complete system. Inspect brake lines and
hoses for proper hook-up, binding, leaks, cracks,
cha®ng, etc. Inspect disc brake pads for wear and rotors
for surface condition. Also inspect drum brake linings
for wear and cracks. Inspect other brake parts, including
drums, wheel cylinders, calipers, parking brake, etc.
Check parking brake adjustment. You may need to have
your brakes inspected more often if your driving
habits or conditions result in frequent braking.
