The master key is used for
the ignition, as well as the
driver's door lock, trunk
and glove box.
The VALET key is used for
the ignition and the driver's
door only. It will not
open the trunk or glove
box. This is a
theft-deterrent feature. The
VALET key should
always be used when valet
parking your vehicle.Your vehicle has the PASS-KeyžIII vehicle theft
system. Both the master and VALET key have a
transponder in the key head that matches a decoder in
the vehicle's steering column. If a replacement key
or any additional key is needed, you must purchase this
key from your dealer. The key will have PK3
žstamped
on it. Keep the bar code tag that came with the
original keys. Give this tag to your dealer if you need a
new key made.
Any new PASS-Key
žIII key must be programmed
before it will start your vehicle. SeePASS-Keyž
III Operation on page 2-19for more information on
programming your new key.
If your vehicle is equipped with the OnStar
žSystem
with an active subscription and you lock your keys inside
the vehicle, OnStar
žmay be able to send a command
to unlock your vehicle. SeeOnStaržSystem on
page 2-37for more information.
Notice:Your vehicle has a number of features that
can help prevent theft. You can have a lot of
trouble getting into your vehicle if you ever lock
your keys inside. You may even have to damage
your vehicle to get in. So be sure you have
spare keys.

Outside Convex Mirror
Your passenger's side mirror is convex. A convex
mirror's surface is curved so you can see more from the
driver's seat.
{CAUTION:
A convex mirror can make things (like other
vehicles) look farther away than they really are.
If you cut too sharply into the right lane, you
could hit a vehicle on your right. Check your
inside mirror or glance over your shoulder
before changing lanes.
Outside Automatic Dimming
Heated Mirror
If you have this feature, the driver's side outside
rearview mirror will adjust for the glare of headlamps
behind you. This feature is controlled using the on and
off settings on the automatic dimming rearview mirror.

Dimming Rearview Mirror with Compassº earlier in
this section.If you have this feature, the left and right outside mirrors
are also heated when you activate the rear window
defogger. See ªRear Window Defoggerº under
Dual Automatic Climate Control System on page 3-22.
Both outside mirrors can be folded forward or rearward.
In the rearward position, they will fold ¯ush with the
vehicle. This feature is particularly useful in automatic
car washes.
OnStaržSystem
Your vehicle may have this feature. OnStaržuses
global positioning system (GPS) satellite technology,
wireless communications, and state of the art call
centers to provide you with a wide range of safety,
security, information and convenience services.
A complete OnStar
žuser's guide and the terms and
conditions of the OnStaržSubscription Service
Agreement are included in your OnStarž-equipped
vehicle's glove box literature.

Erasing HomeLinkžButtons
To erase programming from the three buttons do the
following:
1. Press and hold down the two outside buttons until
the indicator light begins to ¯ash, after 20 seconds.
2. Release both buttons. Do not hold for longer than
30 seconds.

be programmed at any time beginning with Step 2
under ªProgramming HomeLink
ž.º
Individual buttons can not be erased, but they can be
reprogrammed. See ªReprogramming a Single

Reprogramming a Single HomeLinkž
Button
To program a device to HomeLinkžusing a HomeLinkž
button previously trained, follow these steps:
1. Press and hold the desired HomeLink
žbutton. Do
not release the button.
2. The indicator light will begin to ¯ash after
20 seconds. While still holding the HomeLink

button, proceed with Step 2 under ªProgramming

Resetting Defaults
To reset HomeLinkžto default settings do the following:
1. Hold down the two outside buttons for about
20 seconds until the indicator light begins to ¯ash.
2. Continue to hold both buttons until the HomeLink
ž
indicator light turns off.
3. Release both buttons.

Use the key to lock and unlock the glove box. To open
the glove box, pull the handle upward until the latch
opens.

Rear Reading Lamps
To turn on a rear reading lamp, press the button above
that rear door. To turn off the reading lamp, press
the button again.
Trunk Lamp
When you open the trunk to its full open position, a
lamp will come on inside the trunk. This lamp will
automatically turn off when the trunk is closed.
Glove Box Lamp
When you open the glove box, a lamp will come on
inside the glove box. This will automatically turn off when
the glove box is closed.
Battery Rundown Protection
This feature shuts off all lamps that are left on for more
than 10 minutes when the ignition is off. This will
keep your battery from running down.
Head-Up Display (HUD)
{CAUTION:
If the HUD image is too bright, or too high in
your ®eld of view, it may take you more time to
see things you need to see when it's dark
outside. Be sure to keep the HUD image dim
and placed low in your ®eld of view.
If your vehicle is equipped with the Head-Up Display
(HUD), you can see some of the driver information that
appears on your instrument panel cluster.
The information may be displayed in English or metric
units and appears as a re¯ection in the windshield.
The HUD consists of the following information:
·Speedometer Reading
·Turn Signal Indicators
·High-Beam Headlamp Indicator
·CHECK GAGES Message

At Least Twice a Year
Restraint System Check
Make sure the safety belt reminder light and all your
belts, buckles, latch plates, retractors and anchorages
are working properly. Look for any other loose or
damaged safety belt system parts. If you see anything
that might keep a safety belt system from doing its
job, have it repaired. Have any torn or frayed safety belts
replaced.
Also look for any opened or broken air bag coverings,
and have them repaired or replaced. (The air bag
system does not need regular maintenance.)
Wiper Blade Check
Inspect wiper blades for wear or cracking. Replace
blade inserts that appear worn or damaged or that
streak or miss areas of the windshield. Also see
ªWindshield Wiper and Wiper Bladesº under
Cleaning
the Outside of Your Vehicle on page 5-82.
Weatherstrip Lubrication
Silicone grease on weatherstrips will make them last
longer, seal better, and not stick or squeak. Apply
silicone grease with a clean cloth. During very cold,
damp weather more frequent application may be
required. See
Part D: Recommended Fluids and
Lubricants on page 6-25.
Automatic Transaxle Check
Check the transaxle ¯uid level; add if needed. SeeAutomatic Transaxle Fluid on page 5-22. A ¯uid loss
may indicate a problem. Check the system and repair if
needed.
At Least Once a Year
Key Lock Cylinders Service
Lubricate the key lock cylinders with the lubricant
speci®ed in Part D.
Body Lubrication Service
Lubricate all body door hinges. Also lubricate all hinges
and latches, including those for the hood, glove box
door and console door. Part D tells you what to
use. More frequent lubrication may be required when
exposed to a corrosive environment.
