Main switch/steering lock The main switch/steering lock controls
the ignition and lighting systems, and is
used to lock the steering. The various
positions are described below.

All electrical systems are supplied with
power, and the engine can be started.
The key cannot be removed.

OFF
All electrical systems are off. The key
can be removed.

LOCK
The steering is locked, and all electrical
systems are off. The key can be re-
moved.
To lock the steering1. Turn the handlebars all the way to
the left.
2. Push the key in from the “OFF” po-
sition, and then turn it to “LOCK”
while still pushing it.
3. Remove the key.
To unlock the steeringPush the key in, and then turn it to
“OFF” while still pushing it.

_ Never turn the key to “OFF” or
“LOCK” while the motorcycle is
moving, otherwise the electrical
systems will be switched off, which
may result in loss of control or an
accident. Make sure that the motor-
cycle is stopped before turning the

Fuel level warning light “”
This warning light comes on when the
fuel level drops below approximately
3.3 L. When this occurs, refuel as soon
as possible.
The electrical circuit of the warning light
can be checked according to the fol-
lowing procedure.
1. Turn the key to “ON”.
2. If the warning light does not come
on for a few seconds, then go off,
have a Yamaha dealer check the
electrical circuit.

Multi-function display The multi-function display is equipped
with the following:
a speedometer (which shows the
riding speed)
an odometer (which shows the to-
tal distance traveled)
two tripmeters (which show the
distance traveled since they were
last set to zero)
a fuel reserve tripmeter (which
shows the distance traveled since
the fuel level warning light came
on)
a clock
a self-diagnosis device
a display brightness and engine
speed indicator light control mode
NOTE:_
Be sure to turn the key to “ON” be-
fore using the “SELECT” and
“RESET” buttons.
For the U.K. only: To switch the
speedometer and odometer/trip-
meter displays between kilome-
ters and miles, press the
“SELECT” button and “RESET”
button together for at least two
seconds.

Odometer and tripmeter modes
Pushing the “SELECT” button switches
the display between the odometer
mode “ODO” and the tripmeter modes
“TRIP 1” and “TRIP 2” in the following
order:
ODO
→ TRIP 1
→ TRIP 2
→ ODO
If the fuel level warning light comes on
(see page 3-2), the odometer display
will automatically change to the fuel re-
serve tripmeter mode “F-TRIP” and
start counting the distance traveled
from that point. In that case, pushing
the “SELECT” button switches the dis-
play between the various tripmeter and
odometer modes in the following order:
F-TRIP
→ TRIP 1
→ TRIP 2
→ ODO
→ F-TRIP

3To reset a tripmeter, select it by push-
ing the “SELECT” button, and then
push the “RESET” button for at least
one second. If you do not reset the fuel
reserve tripmeter manually, it will reset
itself automatically and the display will
return to the prior mode after refueling
and traveling 5 km.
Clock mode
Turn the key to “ON”.
To change the display to the clock
mode, push the “SELECT” button for at
least one second.
To change the display back to the prior
mode, push the “SELECT” button.
To set the clock:
1. Push the “SELECT” button and
“RESET” button together for at
least two seconds.
2. When the hour digits start flashing,
push the “RESET” button to set
the hours.3. Push the “SELECT” button, and
the minute digits will start flashing.
4. Push the “RESET” button to set
the minutes.
5. Push the “SELECT” button and
then release it to start the clock.
Self-diagnosis device
This model is equipped with a self-di-
agnosis device for various electrical cir-
cuits.
If any of those circuits are defective,
the engine trouble warning light will
come on, and then the multi-function
display will indicate a two-digit error
code (e.g., 11, 12, 13).
If the multi-function display indicates
such an error code, note the code num-
ber, and then have a Yamaha dealer
check the motorcycle.

3 To set the engine speed indicator light
deactivation functionNOTE:_
The indicator light deactivation
function can be set between 7,000
and 12,000 r/min in increments of
500 r/min.
Be sure to set the deactivation
function to a higher engine speed
than for the activation function,
otherwise the engine speed indi-
cator light will remain deactivated.
_1. Push the “RESET” button to select
the desired engine speed for de-
activating the indicator light.
2. Push the “SELECT” button to con-
firm the selected engine speed.
The control mode changes to the
engine speed indicator light bright-
ness function.To adjust the engine speed indicator
light brightness1. Push the “RESET” button to select
the desired indicator light bright-
ness level.
2. Push the “SELECT” button to con-
firm the selected indicator light
brightness level. The multi-func-
tion display will return to the odom-
eter, tripmeter or clock mode.

Brake pedal The brake pedal is on the right side of
the motorcycle. To apply the rear
brake, press down on the brake pedal.

Fuel tank cap To open the fuel tank cap
Open the fuel tank cap lock cover, in-
sert the key into the lock, and then turn
it 1/4 turn clockwise. The lock will be re-
leased and the fuel tank cap can be
opened.
To close the fuel tank cap
1. Push the fuel tank cap into posi-
tion with the key inserted in the
lock.
2. Remove the key, and then close
the lock cover.
NOTE:_ The fuel tank cap cannot be closed un-
less the key is in the lock. In addition,
the key cannot be removed if the cap is
not properly closed and locked. _
