This should be taken simply for an example. It is necessary to set the carburetor while checking
the operating conditions of the engine.

Wahl des Sekundärübersetzungs-
verhältnisses>
Das Sekundärübersetzungsver-
hältnis sollte im allgemeinen redu-
ziert werden, wenn die Rennstrek-
ke längere Geraden aufweist, und
erhöht werden, wenn die Strekke
zahlreiche Kurven aufweist. Da
aber in der Praxis das optimale
Verhältnis von anderen Faktoren
wie dem Zustand der Strecke be-
einflußt wird, sollte die Strecke am
Renntag abfahren werden, um die
richtige Wahl zu treffen.
In der Praxis ist es schwierig, eine
Einstellung zu finden, die für die
ganze Strecke optimal ist, und
man ist gezwungen, Kompromis-
se einzugehen. Die Einstellung
sollte deshalb dem Teil der Strek-
ke angepaßt werden, der für das
Rennen am wichtigsten ist. Fahren
Sie die Strecke ab und notieren
Sie die Rundenzeiten, um die aus-
gewogenste Einstellung zu bestim-
men; legen Sie danach das Sekun-
därübersetzungsverhältnis fest.
Wenn eine Strecke eine lange Ge-
rade aufweist, wo die Maschine mit
Höchstgeschwindigkeit gefahren
werden kann, sollte die Maschine
grundsätzlich so abgestimmt wer-
den, daß sie zum Ende der Gera-
de hin die Maximaldrehzahl entwi-
kkeln kann, ohne daß der Motor
überdreht.
HINWEIS:
Jeder Fahrer hat seine eigene Fahr-
technik, und die Leistung einzelner
Maschinen kann auch bei Baugleich-
heit variieren. Übernehmen Sie dar-
um nicht einfach die Einstellungen
anderer Fahrer, sondern finden Sie
Ihre eigene optimale Einstellung ent-

Il est généralement admis que le rap-
port de démultiplication de la trans-
mission secondaire doit être réduit lors
de la conduite prolongée sur ligne
droite et qu’il convient de l’augmenter
s’il y a de nombreux tournants. La
vitesse dépendra des conditions du ter-
rain et il faut veiller à effectuer des
tours du circuit le jour de la course
afin de régler la machine du mieux
possible.
En pratique, il est très difficile d’effec-
tuer des réglages convenant parfaite-
ment à un terrain donné et il faudra en
sacrifier quelques-uns. Il convient de
régler la machine en fonction de la
partie la plus importante du circuit.
Effectuer des essais et noter les temps
pour les différentes parties du circuit,
calculer la moyenne et déterminer le
taux de réduction secondaire.
Si le parcours comprend de grandes
lignes droites, régler la machine de
sorte à ce qu’elle soit au maximum de
ses performances vers la fin des lignes
droites, tout en évitant que la vitesse
de rotation du moteur soit excessive.
N.B.:
Chaque motocycliste a sa propre techni-
que de conduite et les performances
varient aussi d’une machine à l’autre.
Eviter donc de copier les réglages d’une
autre machine et effectuer ses propres
réglages en fonction de sa technique per-

Generalmente si dice che il rapporto
secondario va ridotto per un rettilineo
piuttosto lungo mentre va aumentato
per un circuito con molte curve. Effet-
tivamente, però, poiché la velocità
dipende dalle condizioni del terreno
del giorno della gara, accertarsi di per-
correre il circuito per registrare il vei-
colo in maniera idonea a tutto il
circuito.
Nella realtà è molto difficile ottenere
registrazioni adatte all’intero circuito
e a volte è necessario sacrificarne
alcune a beneficio di altre. Pertanto la
registrazione dovrebbe corrispondere
alla parte di circuito che ha maggiore
impatto sul risultato della gara. In tal
caso, provare l’intero circuito pren-
dendo nota dei tempi sul giro per tro-
vare l’equilibrio migliore, quindi
determinare il rapporto di riduzione
secondaria.
Se un circuito presenta un lungo retti-
lineo su cui il veicolo può correre alla
massima velocità, registrare il veicolo
in modo tale che possa sviluppare il
numero massimo di giri verso la fine
del tratto rettilineo avendo cura di evi-
tare che il motore vada troppo su di
giri.
NOTA:
La tecnica di guida varia da pilota a
pilota e anche le prestazioni di un vei-
colo variano di veicolo in veicolo. Per-
tanto non imitare le registrazioni di altri
piloti dall’inizio, ma scegliere la propria
registrazione in base al livello della pro-

Front fork setting
The front fork setting should be made depend-
ing on the rider’s feeling of an actual run and
the circuit conditions.
The front fork setting includes the following
three factors:
1. Setting of air spring characteristics
Change the fork oil level.
2. Setting of spring preload
Change the spring.
Install the adjustment washer.
3. Setting of damping force
Change the compression damping.
Change the rebound damping.
The spring acts on the load and the
damping force acts on the cushion
travel speed.

Damping characteristic near the final stroke
can be changed by changing the fork oil
amount.
CAUTION:
Adjust the oil level in 5 mm (0.2 in) incre-
ments or decrements. Too low oil level
causes the front fork to produce a noise at
full rebound or the rider to feel some pres-
sure on his hands or body. Alternatively,
too high oil level will develop unexpectedly
early oil lock with the consequent shorter
front fork travel and deteriorated perfor-
mance an characteristics. Therefore, adjust
the front fork within the specified range.
