3. Brake fluid leakage
Check to see if any brake fluid is leaking
out of the pipe joints or master cylinder.
Apply the brakes firmly for one minute. If
there is any leaking, have the machine
inspected by a Yamaha dealer.
4. Brake operation
Test the brakes at slow speed after starting
out to make sure they are working properly.
If the brakes do not provide proper braking
performance, inspect the brake pads for
wear. (See page 8-73.)

EBU00309Front and rear brake pad inspection
Each brake pad is provided with a wear indica-
tor. The indicators allow checking of brake pad
wear without disassembling the brake. Apply the
brake and inspect the wear indicators. If they
are ALMOST in contact with the disc plate, ask
a Yamaha dealer to replace the pads.

EBU00338Rear brake adjustmentNOTE:
Adjust the rear brake before inspecting the rear
brake pads.Pedal height adjustment
The top of the brake pedal should be positioned
10 mm below the top of the footrest. If not, ask a
Yamaha dealer to adjust it.wOperating with improperly serviced or
adjusted brakes could cause loss of braking
ability, which could lead to an accident.
After servicing:
8Make sure the brakes operate smoothly
and that the free play is correct.
8Make sure the brakes do not drag.
8Make sure the brakes are not spongy. All
air must be bled from the brake system.
Replacement of brake components requires
professional knowledge. These procedures
should be performed by a Yamaha dealer.
