steep uphill and downhill gradie.nts or
driving. also provides for engi­
ne braking effect. To engage

mission will start
in th e f irst gear and only
upshift to the second gear.
When manually downshifting, the selector
lever will move into th e lower gear position,
however th e automatic transmission itself
will not downshift un til there is no possibi li­
ty of over revvi ng.
Kick-down device
The kick-down device gives maximum ac­
celeration when the accelerator pedal is
pressed
down past the full throttle
one of the driving positions

Selecting a driving position
never have any driving position en­gaged when checking under the
hood. Make sure the selector lever is securely locked into the P posi­
tion with the parking brake firmly set. Otherwise, any increase in en­
gine speed may set the vehicle in motion, even with the parking bra­ke applied.
