BODY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM 8-3
When installing the wiring harness, fix it with clamps so that no
slack is left.
When installing vehicle parts, be careful so that the wiring har-
ness is not interfered with or caught by any other part.
To avoid damage to the harness, protect its part which may con-
tact against a part forming a sharp angle by winding tape or the
like around it.
When replacing a fuse, make sure to use a fuse of the specified
capacity. Use of a fuse with a larger capacity will cause a damage
to the electrical parts and a fire.
Always be careful not to handle electrical parts (computer, relay,
etc.) in a rough manner or drop them.

When performing a work that produces a heat exceeding 80C
in the vicinity of the electrical parts, remove the heat sensitive
electrical part(s) beforehand.
Use care not to expose connectors and electrical parts to water
which will be a cause of a trouble.
When using a tester for checking continuity or measuring voltage,
be sure to insert the tester probe from the wire harness side.

INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTIONS
Most intermittent are caused by faulty electrical connections or wir-
ing. When a check for proper connection is requested in a diagnos-
tic flow table, perform careful check of suspect circuits for:
Poor mating of connector halves, or terminals not fully seated in
the connector body (backed out).
Dirt or corrosion on the terminals. The terminals must be clean
and free of any foreign material which could impede proper termi-
nal contact.
However, cleaning the terminal with a sand paper or the like is
prohibited.
Damaged connector body, exposing the terminals to moisture
and dirt, as well as not maintaining proper terminal orientation
with the component or mating connector.
Improperly formed or damaged terminals.
If any abnormality is found, repair or replace as a wire harness as-
sembly.
Check each connector terminal in problem circuits carefully to en-
sure good contact tension by using the corresponding mating termi-
nal included in the connector test adapter kit (special tool).
If contact tension is not enough, reform it to increase contact ten-
sion or replace.
Special Tool (Connector Test Adapter Kit)
(A): 09932-76010
Poor terminal-to-wire connection.
Check each wire harness in problem circuits for poor connection
by shaking it by hand lightly.
If any abnormal condition is found, change the wire harness as-
sembly or component parts with new ones.

CAUTION:
When measurements are requested in this chart use specified digital multimeter with correct terminal
adapter from special tool (Connector test adapter kit).
When a check for proper connection is requested refer to ªIntermittent and Poor Connectionsº in this
section.
When an open in air bag wire harness, damaged wire harness, connector or terminal is found, replace
wire harness, connectors and terminals as an assembly.
STEPACTIONYESNO
11) Set parking brake.
2) Note combination meter as ignition switch
is turned ON.
3) Does the ªBRAKEº indicator (warning lamp)
come ON?Go to step 2.ªB/Wº wire, ªIG.COIL
METERº fuse or J/B

switch and combination
meter) open or short to
ground.
21) With ignition switch OFF, disconnect SDM.
2) Check electrical connection check
mechanism (connection detection pin).
3) Is it in good condition?Go to step 3.Repair electrical
connection check
mechanism.
31) Disconnect SDM.
2) Check proper connection to SDM at
terminal ªA5º.
3) If OK then check voltage from ªA5º terminal of
SDM connector to body ground with ignition
switch ON.
4) Is it 9 V or more?Substitute a known-good
SDM and recheck.Go to step 4 on the
next page.

AIR BAG SYSTEM 10B-63
REPAIRS AND INSPECTIONS REQUIRED AFTER AN ACCIDENT
CAUTION:
All air bag system components, including the electrical harness (component mounting points), must
be inspected after an accident. If any components are damaged or bent, they must be replaced even
if air bag system activation did not occur.
Never use air bag system parts from another vehicle.
Do not attempt to service the parts below. Service of these parts is by replacement only.
± Driver/Passenger air bag (inflator) module
± Driver/Passenger seat belt pretensioner
± SDM
± Contact coil and combination switch assembly
± Air bag wire harness
Proper operation of the sensors and air bag system requires that any repairs to the vehicle structure
return it to its original production configuration.
CAUTION:
After detecting one time of such collision as to meet deployment conditions, the SDM must not be used.
Refer to ªDiagnosisº when checking the SDM.
ACCIDENT WITH DEPLOYMENT ± COMPONENT
REPLACEMENT
Certain air bag system components must be replaced. Those com-
ponents are:
Driver and passenger air bag (inflator) modules
± Replace with new one.
Driver and passenger seat belt pretensioners
± Replace with new one as an assembly.
SDM after detecting such collision as to meet deployment condi-
tions
± Replace with new one.
