YOUR 306 IN DETAIL
Heated seat controls* Press the switch. The temperature is controlled auto-
matically. Pressing a second time stops opera- tion.Isofix mounting** The Isofix mountings available on the two rear seats allow for the ins-tallation of
special child seats** ,
approved by UTAC for Peugeotvehicles and marketed within the
network. The fixings are available asan accessory and must be fitted by
an approved PEUGEOT dealer. The locks incorporated in the child seat fit onto the mounting and ensu-re quick, reliable and safe installation
of the seats. The combined use ofthe seat belt is compulsoryfor a for-
ward-facing child seat. In the front, it is compulsoryto fit
the child seat in the rear-facing posi- tion*** (in this instance it is imperati-ve to disarm the passenger airbag if
your vehicle is fitted with one). Theforward-facing position is permitted
in the rear.
* According to specification.
** During the model year.
*** According to current legislation.
For maximum safety, it is essential
to adjust the corresponding front seat to the intermediate longitudinalposition, seat back upright. Follow the instructions for fitting the child seat in the leaflet provi-ded when the child seat is purcha-sed.

DRIVING YOUR 306
106
Any disruption of the system is signalled by thesimultaneous flashing of theSport and Snow lights onthe instrument panel. In
such a case, the gearbox will operate
in downgraded mode. You may feela substantial knock when reverse isselected from Por N(without any risk
of damage to the gearbox). Do not exceed 60 m.p.h. (100km/h). Contact a PEUGEOT dealer
without delay. When the engine is idling with the
car in gear, the car will move evenwithout you accelerating. Do not accelerate while a gear is being selected, when the vehicle is
stationary.
When stationary, have your foot on the brake pedal when selecting a
gear. Do not accelerate in gear with the brakes on. If work needs to be done with the engine running, apply the hand-brake and select position P.
Do not change down to brake onslippery roads. Never select position Nwhen the
vehicle is moving. Never engage Por Rif the vehicle
is not stationary. Do not allow children inside the vehicle unsupervised when theengine is running.Operating programmes
You have a choice of three operating programmes:
- Auto-adaptive (normal).
- Sport.
- Snow. One press on button Aor Bwill select
Sport or Snow respectively. The selection is displayed on the instru-ment panel. Pressing the button asecond time will return to the auto-adaptive (normal) programme. Auto-adaptive programme (normal) Gear changes are carried out on the basis of various parameters, such as:
- driving style,
- road characteristics,
- the vehicleÕs load. The gearbox continuously scans the
different programmes in the memoryand selects the one most suitable forthe driving conditions at any givenmoment. Sport programme The Sport programme favours perfor- mance for sporty driving and moredynamic acceleration. Snow Programme In position
Dthe Snow programme
provides smooth driving suited to slip- pery roads in order to improve trac-
tion and stability. Starting is in 2ndgear and changing down is at lowengine speeds. Special operating features During prolonged braking, the
gearbox changes down automatically,
so as to provide efficient enginebraking.
- If you take your foot off the accel- erator suddenly (when you are taken by surprise, for example), thegearbox will not change up, so as to
improve safety.
-When the engine is cold, thegearbox automatically selects aspecial programme which enablesthe engine to reach its ideal tem-perature more quickly to decrease pollution.
Kickdown For immediate maximum acceleration
without touching the gear lever, pressthe accelerator pedal down as far as
it will go. The gearbox will changedown automatically or stay in the gearselected, up to maximum enginespeed.

SIDE AIRBAGS*
DRIVING YOUR 306This is indicated by one of the lights on the instrument panel. It comes on for 6 seconds, each time the ignition is switched on.
Operating check If one of the switches:
Ð does not light up when the ignition
is switched on, or,
Ð does not go out after 6 seconds or,
Ð flashes for 5 minutes then stays on,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
* According to specification.
** During model year and depending on model.
These are incorporated into the front seat back frame on the door side. They are deployed independently of each other depending on which sidethe collision occurs, in collisions whichcould cause injury to the chest, theabdomen or the head.

MAINTENANCE OF YOUR 30647
Driving advice Distribution of loads: distribute the load in the trailer so that the heaviestloads are as close as possible to theaxle and the nose weight is close tothe maximum authorised without,
however, exceeding it. Cooling:
towing a trailer on a slope
increases the coolant temperature. As the fan is electrically controlled, itscooling capacity is not dependent onthe engine speed.
On the contrary, use a high gear to lower the engine speed, and reduceyour speed. The maximum towing load on a long slope depends on the gradient andthe outside temperature. In all cases, pay attention to the coolant temperature. If the warning light comes on, stop the
vehicle and switch off the engine assoon as possible.
TOWING A TRAILER,
CARAVAN, BOAT ETC.
Only use original PEUGEOT towbars which have been tested and approvedfrom the design stage of your vehicle. The towbar must be fitted by a
PEUGEOT dealer.
Your vehicle is mainly designed for transporting people and luggage but it
may also be used to tow a trailer. Driving with a trailer subjects the towing vehicle to more significantforces and requires particular atten-
tion on the part of the driver. Air density decreases with altitude, thus also reducing engine perfor-
mance. Above 1000 metres, reducethe maximum towing load by 10 %and so on for each additional 1000 metres.
For use in arduous conditions(towed load at the limit of the Permis-
sible Gross Train Weight, in Summeron a long hill)
certain engines (1.9 l
Diesel) must be equipped with a
more resistant cooling system.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer who, depending on your vehicle and what it
is used for, will be able to advise youabout suitable equipment. Pay attention to the coolant tempera- ture at all times. If the alarm warning light comes on,
stop the vehicle and switch off theengine as soon as possible.
Tyres: check the tyre pressures of the
towing vehicle and the trailer, obser- ving the recommended pressures. Brakes: towing increases the braking
distance. Drive at a moderate speed,
change down early, brake graduallyand avoid jerky braking. Lighting: adjust your headlamps so
as not to dazzle other road users. Check the electrical signalling on the
trailer. Side wind: sensitivity to side wind is
increased. Drive smoothly and at a moderate speed.
