Lock knob
SB070D2-E Head Restraint Adjustment To raise the head restraint, pull it up. To lower it, push it down while pressing thelock knob. For maximum effectiveness in the event of an accident, the restraint must be adjusted so that the restraint isapproximately at the level of the seatoccupant's ears. The restraint mustnever be so adjusted that it is centredabout the level of the seat occupant's neck.
!WARNING:
Do not operate the vehicle with the restraints removed. The restraintsprovide protection against neck in- jury when installed and correctly adjusted. Some models are fitted with adjustabledriver seat lumbar support which maybe used to increase the amount oflumbar support offered by the seat back.Adjustment is performed by moving the handle at the side of the backrest in a forward direction to increase the sup-port.

SB090P1-E SEAT BELTS (3-Point Type) To Fasten The Seat Belt
B180A01L-D
The seat belts are fastened by pulling the belt buckle towards the seat beltstalk and inserting the metal tongue of the buckle into the stalk. The buckle should be firmly pressed into the stalkuntil locked which will be indicated byan audible "click".The length of the seat belt webbing willbe automatically adjusted by the seat belt mechanism to allow the wearer maximum freedom of movement whilstthe belt is being worn. However, in theevent of rapid deceleration or impact, the belt mechanism will automaticallylock.
B170A01L
SB090K1-E Replacement of Seat Belts The entire seat belt assembly or as- semblies should be replaced if the ve-hicle has been involved in an accidenteven if no damage is evident. Addi- tional questions concerning seat belt operation should be directed to a HyundaiDealer. B170A04A-EAT HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE FRONT SEAT SHOULDER BELT(Not all models)
You can adjust the height of the shoul- der belt anchor to one of the 4 positions. If the height of the adjusting seat belt istoo near your neck, you will not begetting the most effective protection. The shoulder portion should be ad- justed so that it lies across your chestand midway over your shoulder nearestthe door and not your neck.To adjust the height of the seat beltanchor, lower or raise the height ad- juster into an appropriate position. To raise the height adjuster, pull it up. Tolower it, push it down while pressing theheight adjuster button.Release the button to lock the anchorinto position. Try sliding the release button to make sure that it has locked into the position.
WARNING:
o The height adjuster must be in the locked position when the vehicle is moving.
o The misadjustment of height of
the shoulder belt could reduce the effectiveness of the seat belt in acrash.
!

1- 22 FEATURES OF YOUR HYUNDAI
Never allow children to ride in the front passenger seat.
o Always make sure that the shoul- der belt portion of the outboard lap/shoulder belt is positionedmidway over the shoulder, neveracross the neck or behind the back. Moving the child closer to the centre of the vehicle may helpprovide a good shoulder belt fit.The lap belt portion of the lap/shoulder belt or the centre seat lapbelt must always be positioned as low as possible on the child's hips and as snug as possible.
o If the seat belt will not properly fit
the child, Hyundai recommendsthe use of an approved boosterseat in the rear seat in order to raise the child's seating height so that the seat belt will properly fitthe child.
o Never allow a child to stand up or kneel on the seat. o Never use an infant carrier or child
safety seat that "hooks" over aseatback; it may not provide ad-equate security in an accident.
o Never allow a child to be held in a person's arms while they are in amoving vehicle, as this could re- sult in serious injury to the child in the event of an accident or asudden stop. Holding a child in amoving vehicle does not providethe child with any means of pro-tection during an accident, even if the person holding the child is wearing a seat belt.
o If the child restraint seat is not anchored properly, the risk of achild being seriously injured orkilled in a collision greatly in- creases.
B230G01L
To install a child restraint system in the outboard rear seats, extend the shoul-der/lap belt from its retractor. Install the child restraint system, buckle the seat belt and allow the seat belt to take upany slack. Make sure that the lap por-tion of the belt is tight around the childrestraint system and the shoulder por-tion of the belt is positioned so that it cannot interfere with the child's head or neck. After installation of the child re-straint system, try to move it in alldirections to be sure the child restraintsystem is securely installed. B230G01A-GAT Installation on Outboard Rear Seats

CAUTION:
o Be sure to remove the antenna before washing the car in an au- tomatic car wash or it may be damaged.
o Before entering a place with a low height clearance, be sure toadjust the roof antenna low.
o When reinstalling your antenna, it is important that it is fully tight-ened to ensure proper reception.!

2- 14 DRIVING YOUR HYUNDAI
!WARNING:
ABS will not prevent accidents due to improper or dangerous driving maneuvers. Even though vehicle control is improved during emer-gency braking, always maintain a safe distance between you and ob- jects ahead. Vehicle speeds shouldalways be reduced during extreme road conditions. The braking distance for carsequipped with an anti-lock braking system may be longer than for those without it in the following road con- ditions.
o Driving on rough, gravel or snow- covered roads.
o Driving with tyre chains installed.
o Driving on roads where the road surface is pitted or has differentsurface height. These roads should be driven atreduced speeds. The safety featuresof an ABS equipped vehicle should not be tested by high speed driving or cornering. This could endangerthe safety of yourself or others. SC150A1-F DRIVING FOR ECONOMY You can save fuel and get more miles from your car if you follow these sug- gestions:
o Drive smoothly. Accelerate at a
moderate rate. Don't make "jack- rabbit" starts or full-throttle shifts and maintain a steady cruisingspeed. Don't race between stop- lights. Try to adjust your speed to that of the other traffic so you don'thave to change speeds unneces- sarily. Avoid heavy traffic whenever pos-sible. Al-ways maintain a safe dis- tance from other vehicles so you can avoid unnecessary braking. Thisalso reduces brake wear. o Drive at a moderate speed. The
faster you drive, the more fuel yourcar uses. Driving at a moderatespeed, especially on the highway, is one of the most effective ways to reduce fuel consumption.
o Don't "ride" the brake or clutch pedal. This can increase fuel consumptionand also increase wear on thesecomponents. In addition, driving with your foot resting on the brake pedal may cause the brakes to overheat, which reduces their effectiveness and may lead to more serious con- sequences.
o Take care of your tyres. Keep them inflated to the recommended pres-sure. Incorrect infla-tion, either toomuch or too little, results in unnec- essary tyre wear. Check the tyre pres-sures at least once a month.
o Be sure that the wheels are aligned correctly. Improper alignment canresult from hitting curbs or drivingtoo fast over irregular surfaces. Poor alignment causes faster tyre wear and may also result in other prob-lems as well as greater fuel con- sumption.
