2-30Locking Rear Axle Your locking rear axle can give you additional traction
on snow, mud, ice, sand or gravel. It works like a
standard axle most of the time, but when one of the rear
wheels has no traction and the other does, this feature
will allow the wheel with traction to move the vehicle.
All -
Wheel DriveWith this feature, engine power is sent to all four wheels
when extra traction is needed.
This is like four
- wheel drive, but there is no separate
lever or switch to engage or disengage the front axle.
It is fully automatic, and adjusts itself as needed for
road conditions.
Horn To sound the horn, press the center pad on the
steering wheel. Tilt Wheel The tilt steering wheel allows you to adjust the steering
wheel before you drive. You can raise it to the highest
level to give your legs more room when you enter and
exit the vehicle.
The tilt lever is located
on the driver's side of the
steering column under
the turn signal lever.
To tilt the wheel, hold the steering wheel and pull the
lever. Move the steering wheel to a comfortable level,
then release the lever to lock the wheel in place.

The lever on the left side of the steering column
includes the following:

Cruise Control Turn and Lane Change Signals The turn signal has two upward (for right) and two
downward (for left) positions. These positions allow you
to signal a turn or a lane change.
To signal a turn, move the lever all the way up or down.
When the turn is finished, the lever will return automatically.
An arrow on the instrument
panel cluster will flash in
the direction of the turn or
lane change.
To signal a lane change, just raise or lower the lever
until the arrow starts to flash. Hold it there until you
complete your lane change. The lever will return by
itself when you release it.
If you move the lever all the way up or down, and the arrow
flashes at twice the normal rate, a signal bulb may be burned
out and other drivers may not see your turn signal.
If a bulb is burned out, replace it to help avoid an
accident. If the arrows don't go on at all when you
signal a turn, check for burned
- out bulbs and a blown
fuse (see ªFuses and Circuit Breakersº in the Index).

2-32 Turn Signal On Chime
If your turn signal is left on for more than 3/4 of a mile
(1.2 km), a chime will sound at each flash of the turn
signal. To turn off the chime, move the turn signal lever
to off.
Headlamp High/Low-Beam Changer To change the headlamps from low to high beam or high
to low beam, pull the multifunction lever all the way
toward you. Then release it.
When the high beams
are on, this light on
the instrument panel
cluster also will be on.
Flash-to-Pass Feature This feature allows you to use your high
- beam
headlamps to signal a driver in front of you that you
want to pass. It works even if your headlamps are off.
To use it, pull the turn signal lever toward you, but not
so far that you hear it click. If your headlamps are off or on low beam, your
high
- beam headlamps will turn on. They'll stay on as long
as you hold the lever toward you and the high
- beam
indicator on the instrument panel will come on. Release
the lever to turn the high
- beam headlamps off.
Windshield Wipers You control the windshield wipers by turning the band
with the wiper symbol on it.
For a single wiping cycle, turn the band to MIST. Hold
it there until the wipers start, then let go. The wipers will
stop after one wipe. If you want more wipes, hold the
band on MIST longer.
You can set the wiper speed for a long or short delay
between wipes. This can be very useful in light rain or
snow. Turn the band to choose the delay time. The
closer to LO, the shorter the delay.
For steady wiping at low speed, turn the band away
from you to the LO position. For high
- speed wiping,
turn the band further, to HI. To stop the wipers, move
the band to OFF.
Be sure to clear ice and snow from the wiper blades
before using them. If they're frozen to the windshield,
carefully loosen or thaw them. If your blades do become
worn or damaged, get new blades or blade inserts.

2-37Exterior Lamps
The exterior lamp control is located on the driver's side
of the instrument panel. The exterior lamp control has three positions:
(Off): Turn the control to this symbol to turn
off your lamps and put the system into automatic
headlamp mode.
(Parking Lamps): Turn the control to the
parking lamps symbol to manually turn on the
following:

Parking Lamps

Sidemarker Lamps

Taillamps

License Plate Lamps

Instrument Panel Lights
(Headlamps): Turn the control to the master
lamps symbol to turn on all the lamps listed as well as
the headlamps.
You can switch your headlamps from high to low
beam by pulling the turn signal/multifunction lever
toward you.

2-61Canadian Programming Canadian Owners: During programming, the hand
- held
transmitter may automatically stop transmitting after two
seconds. In this case, you should press and hold the
HomeLink button (see Steps 2 and 3 under ªProgramming
the HomeLink Transmitterº) while you press and re
- press
(cycle) your hand
- held transmitter every two seconds until
HomeLink is trained.
Operating the HomeLink Transmitter Press and hold the appropriate button on HomeLink for
at least half of a second. The indicator light will come
on while the signal is being transmitted. Erasing Channels To erase all three programmed channels, hold down the
two outside buttons until the indicator light begins to
flash (approximately 20 seconds). Release both buttons.
Resetting Defaults To reset HomeLink to default settings, hold down the
two outside buttons until the indicator light begins to
flash (approximately 20 seconds). Continue to hold both
buttons until the HomeLink indicator light turns off and
then release both buttons.

2-65Speedometer and Odometer Your speedometer lets you see your speed in both
miles per hour (mph) and kilometers per hour (km/h).
Your odometer shows how far your vehicle has been
driven, in either miles (used in the United States) or
kilometers (used in Canada).
Trip Odometer
The trip odometer can tell you how far your vehicle has
been driven since you last set the trip odometer to zero.
Press the reset button to toggle between the trip
odometer and the regular odometer. Holding the reset
button for two seconds while the trip odometer is
displayed will reset it.
To display the odometer reading with the ignition off,
press the reset button.
Engine Hour Meter Display
The odometer can also display the number of hours the
engine has run. To display the hour meter, turn the
ignition off, press and hold the reset button for at least
four seconds. The hour meter will be displayed for up to
30 seconds, or until the ignition is turned on. Tachometer Your tachometer displays the engine speed in
revolutions per minute (rpm).
Warning Lights, Gages
and Indicators This part describes the warning lights and gages on your
vehicle. The pictures will help you locate them.
Warning lights and gages can signal that something is
wrong before it becomes serious enough to cause an
expensive repair or replacement. Paying attention to
your warning lights and gages could also save you or
others from injury.
Warning lights come on when there may be or is a
problem with one of your vehicle's functions. As you
will see in the details on the next few pages, some
warning lights come on briefly when you start the
engine just to let you know they're working. If you are
familiar with this section, you should not be alarmed
when this happens.
Gages can indicate when there may be or is a problem
with one of your vehicle's functions. Often gages and
warning lights work together to let you know when
there's a problem with your vehicle.

3-13Finding a Station
AM FM: Press this button to switch between AM, FM1
and FM2. The display will show your selection.
TUNE: Press this knob lightly so it extends. Turn it to
choose radio stations. Push the knob back into its stored
position when you're not using it.
SEEK : Press the right or left arrow to seek to the
next or previous station and stay there. The sound will
mute while seeking.
To scan stations, press and hold either SEEK arrow for
two seconds until SCAN appears on the display. The
radio will scan to a station, play for a few seconds, then
go on to the next station. Press either SEEK arrow again
to stop scanning. The radio will scan to stations with a
strong signal only. The sound will mute while scanning.
P.SCAN (Preset Scan): The preset scan button lets you
scan through your favorite stations stored on your
pushbuttons. Select either the AM, FM1 or FM2 mode
and then press P.SCAN. It will scan through each station
stored on your pushbuttons and stop for a few seconds
before continuing to scan through all of the pushbuttons. Press P.SCAN again or one of the pushbuttons to stop
scanning and listen to a specific preset station. P.SCAN
will light up on the display while in this mode. If one of
the stations stored on a pushbutton is too weak for the
location you are in, the radio display will show the
channel number (P1 through P6) for several seconds
before advancing to the next preset station.
Setting Preset Stations
The six numbered pushbuttons let you return to
your favorite stations. You can set up to 18 stations
(six AM, six FM1 and six FM2) by performing the
following steps:
1. Turn the radio on.
2. Press AM FM to select AM, FM1 or FM2.
3. Tune in the desired station.
4. Press and hold one of the six pushbuttons. The sound
will mute. When it returns, release the pushbutton.
Whenever you press that numbered pushbutton, the
station you set will return.
5. Repeat the steps for each pushbutton.
