2-13Key in the Ignition If you leave your vehicle with the keys inside, it's an
easy target for joy riders or professional thieves
-- so
don't do it.
When you park your vehicle and open the driver's door,
you'll hear a chime reminding you to remove your key
from the ignition and take it with you. Always do this.
Your ignition and will be locked. Also remember to lock
the doors.
If the key is in the ignition, with any door open, and you
try to lock your doors with the power door locks, the
driver's door will not stay locked. This will help to keep
you from locking your keys in the vehicle.
Parking at Night Park in a lighted spot, close all windows and lock your
vehicle. Remember to keep your valuables out of sight.
Put them in a storage area, or take them with you. Parking Lots Even if you park in a lot where someone will be
watching your vehicle, it's still best to lock it up and
take your keys. But what if you have to leave your
ignition key? What if you have to leave something
valuable in your vehicle?

Put your valuables in a storage area, like your
glove box.

Valuables can be locked in the console storage area.

Take the remote keyless entry system transmitter
with you.

Lock all the doors except the driver's.

2-42Dome Lamps The dome lamps will come on when you open a door
and will slowly dim to off when all doors are closed.
You can also turn the dome lamps on by turning the
thumbwheel, located next to the exterior lamp control,
all the way up. In this position, the dome lamps will
remain on whether a door is opened or closed.
You can use the DOME OVERRIDE button, located
below the exterior lamp control, to set the dome lamps
to come on automatically when a door is opened, or
remain off. To turn the lamps off, press the button into
the in position. With the button in this position, the
dome lamps will remain off when the doors are open. To
return the lamps to automatic operation, press the button
again and return it to the out position. With the button in
this position, the dome lamps will come on when you
open a door.
Battery Run-Down Protection This feature shuts off the dome, reading, glove box and
underhood lamps if they are left on for more than 20
minutes when the ignition is off. This will keep your
battery from running down. Mirrors Electrochromic Inside Rearview Mirror
with Compass and Temperature Display When on, an electrochromic mirror automatically dims
to the proper level to minimize glare from lights behind
you after dark.
The electrochromic mirror will always revert to on when
the vehicle is started.
The mirror also includes a display of both the compass
and the temperature in the upper right corner of the
mirror face. The dual display can be turned on or off by
briefly pressing either the TEMP or COMP button.

2-46Driver's Outside Auto-Dimming
Rearview Mirror The driver's outside mirror will adjust for the glare of
headlamps behind you. This feature is controlled by the
on and off settings on the electrochromic mirror. See
ªElectrochromic Inside Rearview Mirror with Compass
and Temperature Displayº earlier in this section.
Convex Outside Mirror Your passenger's side mirror is convex. A convex
mirror's surface is curved so you can see more from
the driver's seat.
CAUTION:A convex mirror can make things (like other
vehicles) look farther away than they really are.
If you cut too sharply into the right lane, you
could hit a vehicle on your right. Check your
inside mirror or glance over your shoulder before
changing lanes. Heated Outside Rearview Mirrors The outside rearview mirrors have a defrost mode.
To turn on the defrost feature, press the rear window
defogger button. See ªRear Window Defoggerº in the
Index for further information.
Storage Compartments Glove Box To open your glove box, lift up the latch and pull the
door open.

Tools and Gloves 1. Return the tool kit to the tool bag (H) and place them
back in the side storage box.
2. Assemble wheel blocks and bottle jack (A) together
with the wing nut (C).
Spare Tire Your vehicle, when new, had a fully inflated spare tire.
A spare tire may lose air over time, so check its inflation
pressure regularly. See ªInflation
- Tire Pressureº and
ªLoading Your Vehicleº in the Index for information
regarding proper tire inflation and loading your vehicle.
For instruction on how to remove, install or store a spare
tire, see ªChanging a Flat Tireº in the Index.
After installing the spare tire on your vehicle, you
should stop as soon as possible and make sure the spare
is correctly inflated. Have the damaged or flat road tire
repaired or replaced as soon as you can and installed
back onto your vehicle. This way, a spare tire will be
available in case you need it again.
If your vehicle has a spare tire that does not match your
vehicle's original road tires and wheels in size and type,
do not include the spare in the tire rotation.

6-60Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
This is the legal identifier for your vehicle. It appears on
a plate in the front corner of the instrument panel, on the
driver's side. You can see it if you look through the
windshield from outside your vehicle. The VIN also
appears on the Vehicle Certification and Service Parts
labels and the certificates of title and registration. Engine Identification The 8th character in your VIN is the engine code. This
code will help you identify your engine, specifications
and replacement parts.
Service Parts Identification Label You'll find this label located in the glove box. It's very
helpful if you ever need to order parts. On this label is:

your VIN,

the model designation,

paint information and

a list of all production options and
special equipment.
Be sure that this label is not removed from the vehicle.
