1Adjusting beam throw
L Note:
When the basic setting is cor-
rect, headlight beam throw is
regulated when spring preload
is adjusted to suit load.
Have the headlight basic set-
ting adjusted by a specialist
workshop, preferably an
authorised BMW motorcycle
dealer.
L Note:
Adjust beam height so that
oncoming traffic is not dazzled.
Make sure that the throw of the
light cone adequately illumi-
nates the road ahead of you.
Adjusting to suit
load (
b 46):• Change the spring strut set- ting to suit the load
(
b 41-42)
– Spring preload has an effect
on headlight throw
If the load carried on the motor-
cycle is very high, the headlight
beam setting can also be cor-
rected by moving lever 1. The
beam is lowered if lever 1 is
moved down.

Running in
Running in new tyres
d Warning:
New tyres have a smooth
surface. This must be rough-
ened by riding in a restrained
manner at various heel angles
until the tyres are run in.
This running-in procedure is
essential if the tyres are to
achieve maximum grip.
Bedding down new brake
pads
d Warning:
New brake pads must “bed
down” and therefore do not
achieve their optimum friction
levels during the first 500 km
(300 miles).
This slight initial reduction in
braking efficiency can be
compensated for by exerting
greater pressure on the lever.
Try to avoid all unnecessary
hard braking during this initial
period.
e Attention:
Comply with the notes on BMW Inte-
gral ABSOE (b 68-75).
