If at any time you suspect that exhaust fumes are entering the
vehicle, have the problem checked and corrected as soon as pos-
sible. If you must drive under these conditions, drive only with allwindows fully open. Keep the trunk lid or rear gate closed while driving to prevent
exhaust gas from entering the vehicle.
DRINKING AND DRIVING WARNING
Drinking and then driving is very dangerous. Alcohol in the
bloodstream delays your reaction and impairs your perception,judgment and attentiveness. If you drive after drinking – even if
you drink just a little – it will increase the risk of being involved in
a serious or fatal accident, injuring or killing yourself, your pas-sengers and others. In addition, if you are injured in the accident,
alcohol may increase the severity of that injury. Please don ’t drink and drive.
Drunken d riving is one of the most freq uent c auses of ac c id ents. Sinc e
alc ohol affec ts all p eop le d ifferently, you may hav e c onsumed too muc h
alc ohol to d rive safely even if the level of alc oho l in your b lood is b elow

ever if you have no c hoic e b ut to d rive, stop d rink ing and sob er up c om-

Fuel filler cap CAUTION
Make sure that the cap is tightened until it clicks to prevent
fuel spillage in the event of an accident. Always use a genuine SUBARU fuel filler cap. If you use the
wrong cap, it may not fit or have proper venting, and your fueltank and emission control system might be damaged.

To take off the fuel filler c ap , turn it slowly c ou nterc loc kwise and re-
move the c ap . While refueling , hang the c ap on the c ap hold er insid e
the fuel lid .
To p ut the c ap b ac k on, turn it c loc kwise until you hear a c lic king
noise. NOTE If the fuel filler cap is not tightened until it clicks, the CHECK EN- GINE warning light may come on. Refer to the “Warning and indi-
cator lights ” section located in chapter 3.
Refueling
After the fuel filler nozzle has automatic ally stop p ed , d o not ad d any
more fuel.
If you sp ill any fuel on the p ainted surfac e, rinse it off immed iately.
Otherwise, the p ainted surfac e c ould b e d amag ed . Su c h d amag e is
not c overed und er the SUBARU Limited Warranty.

Always check that the hood is properly locked before you start
driving. If it is not, it might fly open while the vehicle is moving
and block your view, which may cause an accident and serious
bodily injury.

eng ine hood b y moving the lever toward the left. Li ft up the hood , release
the hood p rop from its retainer and p ut the end of the hood p rop into the
slot in the hood .

Child restraint systems and seat belts can become hot in a ve-
hicle that has been closed up in sunny weather; they could burn a small child. Check the child restraint system before you place achild in it. Do not leave an unsecured child restraint system in your vehi-
cle. Unsecured child restraint systems can be thrown around in-
side of the vehicle in a sudden stop, turn or accident; it can strikeand injure vehicle occupants as well as result in serious injuriesor death to the child.

c hild restraint systems are d esig ned to b e sec ured in the vehic le seats

not p rop erly sec ured in the vehic le. When installin g the c hild restraint
system, c arefully follow the manufac turer ’s instruc tions.
Ac c ord ing to ac c id ent statistic s, c hild ren are safe r when p rop erly re-
strained in the rear seating p ositions than in the front seating p ositions.
All U.S. states and Canad ian p rovinc es req uire that infants and small
c hild ren b e restrained in an ap p roved c hild restrai nt system at all times
while the vehic le is moving .

1. Set the c hild restraint system in the c enter seat ing p osition.
2. Run the 2-p oint typ e seat b elt throug h or around the c hild restraint
system following the instruc tions p rovid ed b y its m anufac turer.
3. Insert the tong ue p late into the b uc kle.
4. Tig hten the seat b elt.
5. Before having a c hild sit in the c hild restraint system, move it b ac k
and forth to c hec k if it is firmly sec ured . Sometim es a c hild restraint
c an b e more firmly src ured b y p ushing it d own into the seat c ushion
and then tig htening the seatb elt.
If the c hild restraint system req uires a top tether , latc h the hook onto
the top tether anc hor and tig hten the top tether. S ee “Top tether an-
c horag es ” for ad d itional instruc tions.
6. To remove the c hild restraint system, p ress the r elease b utton on
