déformation et du surfaçage:
lPlacer une règle et une jauge
d’épaisseur sur la culasse.
lUtiliser une jauge d’épaisseur pour
mesurer la déformation.
lSi la déformation est hors spécifi-
cations, surfacer la culasse.
lMettre un morceau de toile émeri
n˚ 400 à 600 humide sur une pla-
que à surfacer et surfacer la culasse
en décrivant des “huit”.

Tourner la culasse plusieurs fois pour
obtenir une surface lisse.

Pasos de medición y rectificación
del alabeo:
lColoque una regla y un calibre de
espesores en la culata.
lUtilice un calibre de espesores para
medir el alabeo.
lSi el alabeo está fuera de especifi-
caciones, rectifique la culata.
lColoque un papel de lija húmedo
de grano 400 ~ 600 sobre el plano
de la junta de la culata y comience
el rectificado de la culata siguiendo
un patrón en forma de ocho.
NOTA:
Para asegurar una superficie uni-
forme, gire la culata varias veces.

Measurement steps:

Apply Mechanic’s blueing dye (Dykem)

to the valve face.
l
Install the valve into the cylinder head.
l
Press the valve through the valve guide
and onto the valve seat to make a clear
pattern.
l
Measure the valve seat width. Where the
valve seat and valve face made contact,
blueing will have been removed.
l
If the valve seat is too wide, too narrow, or
the seat is not centered, the valve seat
must be refaced.
9. Lap:

NOTE:
After refacing the valve seat or replacing the
valve and valve guide, the valve seat and
valve face should be lapped.
Lapping steps:
l
Apply a coarse lapping compound to the
valve face.
l
Apply molybdenum disulfide oil to the
valve stem.
l
Install the valve into the cylinder head.
l
Turn the valve until the valve face and
valve seat are evenly polished, then clean
off all of the compound.
l
Apply a fine lapping compound to the
valve face and repeat the above steps.
CAUTION:
Do not let the compound enter the gap
between the valve stem and the guide.
NOTE:
For best lapping results, lightly tap the valve
seat while rotating the valve back and forth
between your hands.

lMake sure that each valve is installed in its
original place, also referring to the embossed
mark as follows.
Intake (right/left): “5BE:”

lInstall the valve springs with the larger pitch
a facing upwards.

NOTE:
While compressing the valve spring with a
valve spring compressor 1 and attachment 2
install the valve cotters.

4. To secure the valve cotters onto the
valve stem, lightly tap the valve tip with a
piece of wood.
CAUTION:
Hitting the valve tip with excessive force
could damage the valve.
5. Install:

lLubricate the valve lifters and pads with
molybdenum disulfide oil.
lValve lifter must turn smoothly when rotated
with a finger.
lBe careful to reinstall valve lifters and pads
in their original place.

Piston ring
1. Measure:
lRing side clearance
Use a feeler gauge 1.
Out of specification ® Replace the pis-
ton and rings as a set.
NOTE:
Clean carbon from the piston ring grooves and
rings before measuring the side clearance.
2. Position:

In cylinder.
NOTE:
Insert a ring into the cylinder and push it
approximately 10 mm (0.39 in) into the cylin-
der. Push the ring with the piston crown so that
the ring will be at a right angle to the cylinder
bore.

NOTE:
You cannot measure the end gap on the
expander spacer of the oil control ring. If the oil
control ring rails show excessive gap, replace
