71SDMInternal fault
NOTE:
When 2 or more codes are indicated, the lowest numbered code will appear first.
If a code not listed on the table is displayed, then the SDM is faulty.
Current DTC and history DTC can be identified by lighting and flashing of ªAIR BAGº warning lamp as
follows.
Current DTC is set.
(Abnormality exists at present.)History DTC is set only. (Faulty condi-
tion occurred once in the past but nor-
mal condition is restored at present.)
ªAIR BAGº warning lamp
after ignition switch ONRemains ON.Flashing 6 times and turns OFF.

switch
Current DTC is displayed.History DTC is displayed.
However, if a multiple number of DTC's are set an even one of them is a current DTC, ªAIR BAGº warning
lamp remains on after ignition switch is turned ON. Therefore, it is not possible to identify any of them
as to whether it is a current one or a history one. (But use of scan tool (Tech 1) will make identification
possible.)

CODE 32 ± POWER SOURCE VOLTAGE LOW (Page 2 of 2)
NOTE:
Before executing items in this table, be sure to perform ªAir Bag Diagnostic Check Flow Tableº.
STEP
ACTIONYESNO
11) Measure voltage on battery.
2) Is voltage 11 V or more?Go to step 2.Check Charging System
and repair as necessary.
(Refer to SECTION 6H
ªChanging Systemº)
21) With ignition switch OFF, disconnect SDM.
2) Check proper connection to SDM at ªA16º
terminal.
3) If OK then ignition switch ON, and then check
voltage from ªA16º terminal on SDM harness
connector to body ground.
4) Is voltage 8 V or more?Go to step 4.Go to step 3.
31) With ignition switch OFF, disconnect ignition
connector (ªFº connector) in air bag harness.
2) Check proper connection at terminal in ªFº
connector.
3) If OK then ignition switch ON, and then check
voltage from terminal in ªFº connector on main
harness to body ground.
4) Is voltage 8 V or more?Repair poor connec-
tion, high resistance
in ªBI/Rº or ªBI/Bº
circuit of air bag
harness or
ªAIR BAGº fuse.Possibly faulty points are
as follows. Check each of
them and repair as
necessary.
Circuit from battery to
ªFº connector
Charging System
(Refer to SECTION
6H ªChanging Systemº)
41) With ignition switch OFF, reconnect SDM
2) With ignition switch ON, is DTC 32 current?Substitute a known-
good SDM and
recheck.Check Charging System
and repair as necessary.
(Refer to SECTION 6H
ªChanging Systemº)

NOTE:
Upon completion of inspection and repair work, perform following items.
1) Reconnect all air bag system components, ensure all components are properly mounted.
2) Clear diagnostic trouble codes (refer to ªDiagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Clearanceº), if any.
3) Repeat ªAir Bag Diagnostic System Check Flow Tableº, referring to p.10B-11 to confirm that the trouble
has been corrected.

NOTE:
Before executing items in this table, be sure to perform ªAir Bag Diagnostic System Check Flow Tableº.
STEP
ACTIONYESNO
11) This DTC is set when there is a trouble in
ªAIR BAGº warning lamp circuit. Failure to
properly perform ªAir Bag Diagnostic System
Check Flow Tableº may also result in
misdiagnosis. Therefore, check ªAIR BAGº
warning lamp circuit again according to ªAir
Bag Diagnostic System Check Flow Tableº.
2) Is ªAIR BAGº warning lamp circuit in good
condition?Go to step 2.Repair ªAIR BAGº
warning lamp circuit.
21) Clear diagnostic trouble codes.
2) Is DTC 61 set ?Substitute a known-
good SDM and recheck.Recheck air bag system,
referring to ªAir Bag
Diagnostic System
Check Flow Tableº.
NOTE:
Upon completion of inspection and repair work, perform following items.
1) Reconnect all air bag system components, ensure all components are properly mounted.
2) Repeat ªAir Bag Diagnostic System Check Flow Tableº, referring to p. 10B-11 to confirm that the trouble
has been corrected.
CODE 71 ± INTERNAL SDM FAULT
DTC WILL SET WHEN:
An internal SDM fault is detected by SDM.
NOTE:
CODE 71 can never be cleared once it has been set.
1) Ignition switch OFF.
2) Replace SDM.
3) Repeat ªAir Bag Diagnostic System Check Flow Tableº, referring to p.10B-11.
