SRS side airbag (if equipped)
WARNING
The SRS aide airbag is designed as only a supplement to the
primary protection provided by the seatbelt. It does not do away with the need to fasten seatbelts. It is also important to wear your
seatbelt to help avoid injuries that can result when an occupant isnot seated in a proper upright position. Do not sit or lean unnecessarily close to either front door. The
SRS side airbag is stored in both front seat seatbacks next to the
door, and it provides protection by deploying rapidly (faster thanthe blink of an eye) in the event of a side impact collision. Howev-
er, the force of SRS side airbag deployment may cause injuries ifyour head or other body parts are too close to the SRS side air-bag. Do not rest your arm on either front door or its internal trim. It
could be injured in the event of SRS side airbag deployment. Never allow a child to kneel on the front passenger ’s seat fac-
ing the side window or to wrap his/her arms around the front seat
seatback. In the event of an accident, the force of SRS side airbag
deployment could seriously injure or even kill the child becausehis/her head or arms or other body parts are close to the side air-bag. Since your vehicle is also equipped with a passenger ’s SRS
frontal airbag, children aged 12 and under should be placed inthe rear seat anyway and should be properly restrained at alltimes.

Do not attach accessories to the door trim or near either SRS
side airbags and do not place objects near the SRS side airbags. In the event of the SRS side airbag deployment, they could bepropelled dangerously toward the vehicle ’s occupants and cause
injuries. Do not put any kind of cover or clothes or other objects over
either front seatback and do not attach labels or stickers to thefront seat surface on or near the SRS side airbag. They could pre-vent proper deployment of the SRS side airbag, reducing protec-tion available to the front seat ’s occupant.

A d iag nostic system c ontinually monitors the read in ess of the SRS air-
b ag system (inc lud ing front seatb elt p retensioners) while the vehic le is
b eing d riven. The SRS airb ag system warning lig ht “AIRBAG ” will show
normal system op eration b y lig hting for ab out 6 sec ond s when the ig ni-
tion key is turned to the “ON ” p osition.

In the event of a malfunc tion ind ic ated b y any of f ollowing , the vehic le

system c hec ked . Unless c hec ked and rep aired , the SR S airb ag s will not
func tion reliab ly:

SRS airbag system servicing
WARNING
When discarding an airbag module or scrapping the entire car
damaged by a collision, consult your SUBARU dealer. The SRS airbag has no user-serviceable parts. Do not use
electrical test equipment on any circuit related to the SRS airbag
system. For required servicing of the SRS airbag, see your near-
est SUBARU dealer. Tampering with or disconnecting the sys-
tem’ s wiring could result in accidental inflation of the SRS airbag
or could make the system inoperative, which may result in seri-
ous injury. The wiring harnesses of the SRS airbag system arecovered with yellow insulation and system connectors are yellowfor easy identification.
CAUTION
If you need service or repair in areas listed below, we recommend
that you have an authorized SUBARU dealer perform the work. The
SRS airbag control module, impact sensors and airbag modules
are stored in these areas.
Under the center console
Inside each front fender
Steering wheel and column and nearby areas
Top of the dashboard on front passenger ’s side and nearby
areas Each front seat and nearby area (only for vehicle with SRS
side airbags) Inside each center pillar

In the event that the SRS airbag is deployed, replacement of the sys-
tem should be performed only by an authorized SUBARU dealer.When the components of the SRS airbag system are replaced, useonly genuine SUBARU parts.
To ensure their long -term reliab ility, the SRS airb
ag s must b e insp ec ted
b y a SUBARU d ealer ten years after the d ate of manu fac ture, whic h is
shown on the c ertific ation lab el attac hed to the d r iver’s d oor.
NOTE In the following cases, contact your SUBARU dealer as soon as pos- sible. The front part of the vehicle was involved in an accident in
which the SRS frontal airbags did not deploy. The pad section of the steering wheel or front passenger ’s
frontal airbag cover is scratched, cracked, or otherwise damaged.
In addition, if your vehicle is equipped with SRS side airbags, con-tact your SUBARU dealer as soon as possible in the followingcases. Either center pillar or a nearby area of the vehicle was involved
in an accident in which the SRS side airbag did not deploy. The fabric or leather of either front seatback is cut, frayed, or
otherwise damaged.
Precautions against vehicle modification
WARNING
To avoid accidental activation of the system or rendering the
system inoperative, which may result in serious injury, no modifi-cations should be made to any components or wiring of the SRSairbag system.This includes following modifications: Installation of custom steering wheels
Attachment of additional trim materials to the dashboard
Installation of custom seats (only for vehicles with SRS side

Security system (if equipped)
The sec urity system help s to p rotec t your vehic le a

theft. The horn sound s and the p arking lig hts flash if someone attemp ts
to b reak into your vehic le. The starter motor is al so interrup ted to p revent
starting the vehic le without a key.
The system c an b e armed and d isarmed with the remot e transmitter.
The system d oes not op erate when the key is inserte d into the ig nition
switc h.
System operation
The sec urity system will g ive the following alarm i nd ic ations when trig -
g ered : The p arking lig hts will flash and the horn will sou nd intermittently.
In ad d ition, the starter motor will not op erate. The alarm automatic ally resets after 30 sec ond s; ho wever, the
alarm will reac tivate if the vehic le is tamp ered wi th ag ain. The alarm
will c ontinue for twelve times if any sensor c ontin ues to b e ac tivated .
The alarm is trig g ered b y: Op ening a d oor, the rear g ate or trunk lid .
Ap p lic ation of p hysic al shoc k to the vehic le (e.g . b reaking g lass or
forc ed entry). Note that there are two alarm levels for shoc k: warning
and alarm. In warning mod e, the alarm d etec ts lower level vib rations
and trig g ers 2 warning c hirp s on the horn and two f lashes on the
lig hts as a d eterrent to would b e vand als. In alarm mod e, hig her lev-
els of shoc k are d etec ted and the system will g o in to full alarm.

Passive arming
When p assive arming mod e has b een p rog rammed b y the d ealer,
arming of the system is automatic ally ac c omp lished without using the
remote transmitter. Note that in this mod e, DOORS M UST BE MANU-
ALLY LOCKED. n To enter the passive mode

Do not disconnect or tamper with any yellow connector and/or any harness covered with yellow insulation and/or tape.Doing so could result in accidental inflation of the SRS airbag orcould make the SRS airbag system inoperative, which may result
in serious injury.

Always use the child safety lock whenever a child rides in the rear seat. Serious injury could result if a child accidentallyopened the door and fell out.

When the c hild safety loc k lever is in the loc k p os ition, the d oor c annot
b e op ened from insid e reg ard less of the p osition of the inner d oor hand le
loc k lever. The d oor c an only b e op ened from the ou tsid e.
