11. Fasten the rig ht and left halves of the c hest c lip at the level of the
c hild ’s armp its. The c olor g reen must ap p ear in the ind ic ator wind ow
when fastened . If the c olor red ap p ears in the wind ow, the c lip is not
sec urely latc hed .
The p urp ose of the c lip is to keep the should er b el ts p ositioned c or-
rec tly on the should ers.
WARNING
An unfastened chest clip will not help keep the belts on the
child’ s shoulders. In a sudden stop or in an accident, the child
may go too far forward and be seriously injured. Make sure thechest clip is fastened at all times.
12. If the b elts are loose, p ull d own on lap p arts of the b elts to take in
the slac k of the lap and should er b elts.
13. Pull the b elts toward you to make sure the b elt b uc kle is p rop erly
fastened and the retrac tor is loc ked .
14. If the b elts b ec ome too tig ht, unb uc kle the b uc kle and allow b oth
b elts to fully retrac t to unloc k the retrac tor, the n reinsert b oth tong ue
p lates.

Storing the built-in child restraint
Always p rop erly store the b uilt-in c hild restraint b efore using the reg u-
lar lap -should er b elt for the rear-c enter seating p osition.

2. Stow the b elt b uc kle into the rec ess of the c hild restraint c ushion.
3. Fold the c hild restraint c ushion up into the seat b ac k.
Replacing restraint system parts after a collision
WARNING
Replace the built-in child restraint equipped vehicle seatback as-
sembly if the child restraint was in use during a serious collision.
The built-in restraint may be severely weakened. In a subsequent
accident, it might not be able to provide adequate protection. Theentire assembly should be replaced even if damage is not ob-vious.
Maintenance CAUTION
Keep the belts free of polishes, oils, chemicals and particularly
battery acid as they may weaken the belts. Never attempt to make modifications or changes that will pre-
vent the built-in child restraint from operating properly.

WARNING
NEVER INSTALL A REARWARD FACING CHILD SEAT IN THE
FRONT SEAT. DOING SO RISKS SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO THE CHILD BY PLACING THE CHILD ’S HEAD TOO CLOSE TO
THE SRS AIRBAG. Never allow a child to stand up, or to kneel on the front pas-
senger’ s seat, or never hold a child on your lap or in your arms.
The SRS airbag deploys with considerable force and can injure oreven kill the child. The SRS airbag deploys with considerable speed and force.
Occupants who are out of proper position when the SRS airbag
deploys could suffer very serious injuries. Because the SRS air-bag needs enough space for deployment, the driver should al-ways sit upright and well back in the seat as far from the steeringwheel as practical while still maintaining full vehicle control and
the front passenger should move the seat as far back as possibleand sit upright and well back in the seat. It is also important to wear your seatbelt to help avoid injuriesthat can result when the SRS airbag contacts an occupant not inproper position such as one thrown toward the front of the carduring pre-accident braking.

The d river’s SRS frontal airb ag is stowed in the c enter p ortio n of the
steering wheel. The p asseng er ’s SRS frontal airb ag is stowed near the
top of the d ashb oard und er an “SRS AIRBAG ” mark.
In a mod erate to severe frontal c ollision, the d riv er’s and front p assen-
g er ’s SRS frontal airb ag s d ep loy and sup p lement the sea tb elts b y red uc -
ing the imp ac t on the d river ’s and front p asseng er ’s head and c hest.
Operation
CAUTION
Do not touch the SRS airbag system components around the steering wheel and dashboard with bare hands right after deploy-ment. Doing so can cause burns because the components can bevery hot as a result of deployment.

Do not attach accessories to the door trim or near either SRS
side airbags and do not place objects near the SRS side airbags. In the event of the SRS side airbag deployment, they could bepropelled dangerously toward the vehicle ’s occupants and cause
injuries. Do not put any kind of cover or clothes or other objects over
either front seatback and do not attach labels or stickers to thefront seat surface on or near the SRS side airbag. They could pre-vent proper deployment of the SRS side airbag, reducing protec-tion available to the front seat ’s occupant.
