The DRL system will make your headlamps come on at
a reduced brightness when:
the ignition is on,
the headlamp switch is in automatic headlamp mode.
the automatic transmission is not in PARK (P),
the light sensor determines it is daytime and
the parking brake is released.
When the DRL are on, only your DRL lamps will be on.
The taillamps, sidemarker and other lamps won't be on.
Your instrument panel won't be lit up either.
When it begins to get dark, the automatic headlamp
system will switch from DRL to the headlamps or the
last chosen headlamp setting that was used.
To idle the vehicle with the DRL off, set the parking
brake. Shifting the transmission into PARK (P) will
also allow you to idle the vehicle with the DRL off.
The DRL will stay off until you release the parking
brake or shift the transmission out of PARK (P).
As with any vehicle, you should turn on the regular
headlamp system when you need it.Interior Lamps
Instrument Panel Intensity Control
The instrument panel intensity control is located to the
right of the headlamp switch.
Turn the thumbwheel up to adjust the instrument panel
lights. To turn on the dome lamps (with the vehicle
doors closed) turn the thumbwheel all the way up.
Exit Lighting
With exit lighting, the interior lamps will come on when
you remove the key from the ignition. The lights will
not come on if the DOME OVERRIDE button is
pressed in.
Illuminated Entry
Your vehicle is equipped with an illuminated entry feature.
When the doors are opened, the dome lamps will come
on if the DOME OVERRIDE button is in the ªoutº
position. When all the doors are closed, the lamps will
stay on for a short period of time and will then go out.
If the DOME OVERRIDE button is pressed in, the
lamps will not come on.

2-42 Dome Lamps
The dome lamps will come on when you open the doors.
You can also turn the dome lamps on by turning the
thumbwheel, located next to the parking/headlamps
knob, all the way up. In this position, the dome lamps
will remain on whether the doors are opened or closed.
You can use the DOME OVERRIDE button, located
below the parking/headlamp knob, to set the dome
lamps to come on automatically when the doors are
opened, or remain off. To turn the lamps off, press the
button into the ªinº position, the dome lamps will
remain off when the doors are open. To return the lamps
to automatic operation, press the button again and return
it to the ªoutº position. With the button in this position,
the dome lamps will come on when you open a door.
Battery Run-Down Protection
This feature shuts off the dome, courtesy, vanity,
reading and glove box if they are left on for more than
20 minutes when the ignition is off. This will keep your
battery from running down.If the battery run
-down protection shuts off the interior
lamps, it may be necessary to do one of the following to
return to normal operation:
Shut off all lamps and close all doors, or
Turn the ignition key to RUN.
Mirrors
Inside Day/Night Rearview Mirror
You can adjust the mirror for day or night driving.
Press the tab forward (away from you) for day driving.
Pull the tab back (toward you) for night driving.
Outside Manual Adjust Mirror
Adjust your outside mirrors so you can just see the side
of your vehicle.
You can fold them before entering a car wash. Pull the
mirrors in toward the vehicle. Push the mirrors back out
when finished. After pushing the mirror out, adjustment
will be maintained.

2-46 Overhead Console (Option)
The overhead console includes reading lamps, a
compartment for a garage door opener, trip computer,
a temperature and compass display and a storage
compartment for sunglasses.
The reading lamps, trip computer and temperature and
compass display will work when the ignition is in RUN,
ACCESSORY or when Retained Accessory Power
(RAP) is active. See ªRetained Accessory Powerº
in the Index.Reading Lamps
Press the button near each
lamp to turn the reading
lamps on and off.
The lamps can also be swiveled to point in the direction
you want.

COMP/TEMP: The display provides the outside
temperature and one of eight compass readings to
indicate the direction the vehicle is facing.
Before you turn on the ignition and move the vehicle,
the temperature indicated will be the last outside
temperature recorded with the ignition on. If the
outside temperature is 37F (3C) or lower, the
display will toggle between the word ICE and the
current temperature every eight seconds. This is a
warning to the driver that road conditions may be icy,
and that appropriate precautions should be taken.
The compass is self
-calibrating, so it does not need
to be manually set. However, if C (Calibration) is
displayed, the compass will need to be calibrated. You
may also place the compass in a noncalibrated mode by
pressing and holding the MODE and US/MET buttons
simultaneously while in the COMP/TEMP mode. After
about 10 seconds, the compass will display C and you
can release the buttons. Drive the vehicle in a complete
360 circle three times at a speed of less than 5 mph
(8 km/h), and the compass will function normally.
Once the calibration is complete, the display will return
to a compass reading.Variance is the difference between magnetic north and
geographic north. In some areas, the difference between
the two can be great enough to cause false compass
readings. If this happens, follow these instructions to
set the variance for your particular location:
1. Find your location on the zone map. Note your
zone number.
2. Press and hold both the MODE and the US/MET
buttons in the COMP/TEMP mode.

CAUTION:
If the air bag readiness light stays on after you
start your vehicle, it means the air bag system
may not be working properly. The air bags in
your vehicle may not inflate in a crash, or they
could even inflate without a crash. To help avoid
injury to yourself or others, have your vehicle
serviced right away if the air bag readiness light
stays on after you start your vehicle.
The air bag readiness light should flash for a few
seconds when you turn the ignition key to RUN. If the
light doesn't come on then, have it fixed so it will be
ready to warn you if there is a problem.
Charging System Indicator Light
The charging system light
will come on briefly when
you turn the ignition on, but
the engine is not running,
as a check to show you the
light is working.
Then it should go out once the engine is running.
If it stays on, or comes on while you are driving, you
may have a problem with the electrical charging system.
It could indicate that you have a loose accessory drive
belt, or another electrical problem. Have it checked
right away. Driving while this light is on could drain
your battery.
If you must drive a short distance with the light on,
be certain to turn off all your accessories, such as the
radio and heater/air conditioner.

2-64 Voltmeter
When your engine is not
running, but the ignition is
on (in the RUN position),
the gage shows your
battery's state of charge
in DC volts.
When the engine is running, the gage shows the
condition of the charging system. Readings between
the low and high warning zones indicate the normal
operating range.
Readings in the low warning zone may occur when a
large number of electrical accessories are operating in
the vehicle and the engine is left at an idle for an
extended period. This condition is normal since the
charging system is not able to provide full power at
engine idle. As engine speeds are increased, this
condition should correct itself as higher engine speeds
allow the charging system to create maximum power. You can only drive for a short time with the readings
in either warning zone. If you must drive, turn off all
unnecessary accessories.
Readings in either warning zone indicate a possible
problem in the electrical system. Have the vehicle
serviced as soon as possible.
Brake System Warning Light
When the ignition is on, the brake system warning light
will come on when you set your parking brake. The light
will stay on if your parking brake doesn't release fully.
If it stays on after your parking brake is fully released,
it means you have a brake problem.
Your vehicle's hydraulic brake system is divided into
two parts. If one part isn't working, the other part can
still work and stop you. For good braking, though,
you need both parts working well.
If the warning light comes on, there could be a brake
problem. Have your brake system inspected right away.

2-65
This light should come
on briefly when you turn
the ignition key to RUN.
If it doesn't come on then,
have it fixed so it will be
ready to warn you if
there's a problem.
If the light comes on while you are driving, pull off the
road and stop carefully. You may notice that the pedal is
harder to push. Or, the pedal may go closer to the floor.
It may take longer to stop. If the light is still on, have the
vehicle towed for service. (See ªTowing Your Vehicleº
in the Index.)
CAUTION:
Your brake system may not be working properly
if the brake system warning light is on. Driving
with the brake system warning light on can lead
to an accident. If the light is still on after you've
pulled off the road and stopped carefully, have
the vehicle towed for service.
Anti-Lock Brake System Warning Light
United States Canada
With the anti
-lock brake system, this light will come on
when you start your engine and may stay on for several
seconds. That's normal.
If the light stays on, or comes on when you're driving,
your vehicle needs service. If the regular brake system
warning light isn't on, you still have brakes, but you
don't have anti
-lock brakes. If the regular brake system
warning light is also on, you don't have anti
-lock brakes
and there's a problem with your regular brakes. See
ªBrake System Warning Lightº earlier in this section.
The anti
-lock brake system warning light should come
on briefly when you turn the ignition key to RUN.
If the light doesn't come on then, have it fixed so it
will be ready to warn you if there is a problem.
