The PCM contains a self-diagnostic system used for
determining an electronic component failure. The PCM self-diagnostic
system will store a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) in PCM memory if
certain electronic problems are present.
DTCs can be retrieved using appropriate scan tool. See SELF-
DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After repairing an electronic system problem,
stored DTC must be cleared from PCM memory. For PCM location, see PCM
LOCATION table.

GOVERNOR PRESSURE SENSOR
NOTE: Governor pressure sensor may also be referred to as governor
pressure transducer.
Governor pressure sensor delivers an output signal to the PCM
indicating the output pressure of governor pressure solenoid. The PCM
uses this signal to control governor pressure. Governor pressure
solenoid is located on valve body. See Fig. 1.
GOVERNOR PRESSURE SOLENOID
Governor pressure solenoid generates governor pressure
required for transmission upshifts and downshifts. Governor pressure
solenoid is located on valve body. See Fig. 1. Inlet side of governor
pressure solenoid is exposed to normal transmission line pressure and
outlet side provides a passage to governor circuit in the valve body.
Governor pressure solenoid regulates transmission line pressure to the
governor circuit. Electrical supply voltage is supplied to governor
pressure solenoid by PCM. The PCM controls the ground circuit to
governor pressure solenoid to provide solenoid operation.

OVERVIEW OF MOTORIST ASSURANCE PROGRAM
The Motorist Assurance Program is the consumer outreach
effort of the Automotive Maintenance and Repair Association, Inc.
(AMRA). Participation in the Motorist Assurance Program is drawn from
retailers, suppliers, independent repair facilities, vehicle
manufacturers and industry associations.
Our organization's mission is to strengthen the relationship
between the consumer and the auto repair industry. We produce
materials that give motorists the information and encouragement to
take greater responsibility for their vehicles-through proper,
or damage.

DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
A permanent magnet wiper motor is used for low, high or
intermittent (delay) wiper functions. Base intermittent (delay) wipe\
r
function provides a .5-18 second delay mode. On high-line models,
delay function is speed sensitive. At vehicle speeds greater than 10
MPH, delay mode range is 1/2-18 seconds. At vehicle speeds less than
10 MPH, delay mode doubles to 1-36 seconds.
Delay function is controlled by Central Timer Module (CTM),
located under passenger side of instrument panel, outboard of glove
box. CTM switches an intermittent wiper relay, located in Power
Distribution Center (PDC). On high line models, CTM is connected to
Chrysler Collision Detection (CCD) data bus network to receive vehicle\
speed information for delay function.
Washer system consists of rubber hoses and nozzles, an
electric pump, sealed motor, low washer fluid indicator (if equipped)
and reservoir.
ADJUSTMENTS
WIPER BLADES
With wiper arms removed, cycle wiper motor into PARK
position. Mount arms on pivot shafts, and ensure distances are as
specified. See Fig. 1. Operate wiper blades, and check whether they
return to proper position. If wiper blades do not return to this
position, check linkage and pivot assembly for wear and binding.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
MOTOR WILL NOT RUN
Check for blown fuse. Check voltage at motor. Check wiper
switch, ground circuit and wiring.
MOTOR RUNS, BLADES DO NOT MOVE
Check for loose motor crank, disconnected linkage or loose
arms on pivot shaft. Check for faulty wiper motor.
BLADES DO NOT PARK PROPERLY
Check for improperly installed wiper arms. Check for faulty
linkage. Check for faulty wiring, wiper switch or wiper motor.
WIPER KNOCK NOISE
Check for improperly installed wiper arms. Check for faulty
linkage or wiper motor.
BLADES CHATTER
Check for foreign substance on blades or glass. Check for
twisted arm holding blade at wrong angle to glass. Check for bent or
damaged blades.
WASHERS DO NOT OPERATE
Check for low washer fluid level. Check for contaminated
washer fluid. Check for leaking or improperly routed hoses. Check for
faulty wiring, wiper switch or washer pump.
COMPONENT TESTS
INTERMITTENT WIPER RELAY
1) Remove relay. See INTERMITTENT WIPER RELAY under REMOVAL &
INSTALLATION. Check continuity between relay terminals No. 30 and 87A.
Continuity should exist. Check continuity between relay terminals No.
30 and 87. Continuity should not exist. Check resistance between relay
terminals No. 85 and 86. Resistance should be 70-80 ohms.
2) Connect battery voltage between relay terminals No. 85 and
86. Check continuity between relay terminals No. 30 and 87A.
Continuity should not exist. Check continuity between relay terminals
No. 30 and 87. Continuity should exist. Replace relay if continuity or
resistance is not as specified.
WIPER/WASHER SWITCH
NOTE: Wiper/washer switch is part of multifunction steering column
switch. If wiper/washer switch fails, entire multifunction
switch must be replaced.
Disconnect wiper/washer switch connector. Check continuity
between appropriate switch terminals with switch in specified
position. See WIPER/WASHER CONTINUITY TEST table. See Fig. 2. Replace
multifunction switch if continuity is not as specified.

bolster. Remove CTM from bracket on inboard side of instrument panel
steering column opening. Disconnect harness connectors. To install,
reverse removal procedure.
INTERMITTENT WIPER RELAY
Removal & Installation
Intermittent wiper relay is located in Power Distribution
Center (PDC) in engine compartment. Remove cover and remove relay. To
install, reverse removal procedures
WIPER ARMS
Removal & Installation
Open hood. Lift wiper and slide latch to hold wiper off of
windshield. With a rocking motion, remove wiper arm. To install,
ensure wiper motor is in park position. Slide wiper arm on shaft.
Align wiper arms. See WIPER BLADES under ADJUSTMENTS.
WIPER MOTOR
NOTE: Wiper linkage and motor module is replaced as a unit.
Removal & Installation
1) Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove wiper arms. See
WIPER ARMS. Remove weatherstrip along front edge of cowl. Release
plastic anchor screws. Lift cowl grille from vehicle. Remove washer
hose from "Y" fitting. Set grille aside.
2) Remove wiper linkage mounting bolts. Turn linkage over and
disconnect harness connector from wiper motor. Remove wiper linkage
and motor module. To install, reverse removal procedure. Align wiper
arms. See WIPER BLADES under ADJUSTMENTS.
WIPER/WASHER SWITCH
NOTE: Wiper/washer switch is part of multifunction steering column
switch. If wiper/washer switch fails, entire multifunction
switch must be replaced.
Removal & Installation
1) Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove tilt lever (if
equipped). Remove steering column upper and lower covers to access
switch connector. Remove switch connector. Remove multifunction switch
tamperproof screws.
2) Gently pull switch away from column and loosen connector
screw (screw remains in connector). Remove switch. To install, reverse\
removal procedure. Tighten screws and nuts to specification. See
TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS. Ensure switch is functioning properly.
WASHER RESERVOIR
Removal & Installation
Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system.
Disconnect upper radiator hose from radiator. Disconnect harness
connectors from washer pump and washer fluid level sensor. Remove
washer supply hose from washer pump and drain washer fluid. While
pulling reservoir away from fan shroud, lift reservoir upward to
disengage mounting tabs from fan shroud. Remove washer reservoir. To
install, reverse removal procedure.
