IThe air conditioner cooling function
operates only when the engine is run-
ning.
IDo not leave children, unreliable
adults, or pets alone in your vehicle.
On hot, sunny days, temperatures in
a closed vehicle could quickly be-
come high enough to cause severe or
possibly fatal injuries to people or
animals.IDo not use the recirculation mode for
long periods as it may cause the
interior air to become stale and the
windows to fog up.
IPositioning of the heating or air con-
ditioning controls should not be done
while driving, in order that full atten-
tion may be given to the driving
operation.
CONTROLS
Fan control dialThis dial turns the fan on and off, and controls
fan speed.
AUTO mode: This mode controls the fan
speed automatically.Air flow control dialThis dial allows you to select the air flow
outlets.
Ð Air flows from center and side venti-
lators.Ð Air flows from center and side venti-
lators and foot outlets.Ð Air flows mainly from foot outlets.Ð Air flows from defroster outlets and
foot outlets.Ð Air flows mainly from defroster out-
lets.
Temperature control dialThis dial allows you to adjust the temperature
of the outlet air.

Air recirculation buttonOff position
Outside air is drawn into the passenger com-
partment when this button is off.
Use the off position for normal heater or air
conditioner operation.
On position
Interior air is recirculated inside the vehicle.
Push the button on when driving on a dusty
road. The indicator light will come on.Air conditioner buttonStart the engine, turn the fan control dial to the
desired (Auto, 1 to 3) position and push the air
conditioner button to turn on the air condi-
tioner. The indicator light will come on when
the air conditioner is on. To stop the air con-
ditioner, push the switch again to return it to
the original position.
The air conditioner cooling function oper-
ates only when the engine is running.
HEATER OPERATION
HeatingThis mode is used to direct hot air from the
floor outlets.
1. Push the air recirculation button off for
normal heating.
2. Turn the air control dial to the
posi-
tion.
3. (Manual mode)
Turn on the fan control dial (1 to 3).
(Auto mode)
Turn the fan control dial to the AUTO
position.
IThe fan speed will be maintained automati-
cally.
4. Turn the temperature control dial to set the
desired temperature.
IAdjust the temperature control dial to about
75ÉF (24ÉC) for normal operation.
IThe temperature will be maintained auto-
matically.
IFor quick heating, push the air recirculation
button on. Be sure to turn off the air recir-
culation button for normal heating.IWhen starting up from cold with the fan
control dial in the AUTO position, the
blower speed will be fixed in the low mode
until the coolant temperature rises.
VentilationThis mode directs outside air from the side,
center and driver vents.
1. Push the air recirculation button off.
2. Turn the air control dial to the
position.
3. (Manual mode)
Turn on the fan control dial (1 to 3).
(Auto mode)
Turn the fan control dial to the AUTO
position.
IThe fan speed will be maintained automati-
cally.
4. Turn the temperature control dial to set the

Defrosting or defoggingThis mode is used to defrost/defog the win-
dows.
1. Push the air recirculation button off.
2. Turn the air control dial to the
posi-
tion.

Turn on the fan control dial (1 to 3).
(Auto mode)
Turn the fan control dial to the AUTO
position.
IThe fan speed will be maintained automati-
cally.
4. Turn the temperature control dial to the
desired position.
ITo quickly remove ice or fog from the
windows, turn the fan control dial to 3 and
the temperature control dial fully over to the
hot position.
Bi-level heatingThis mode directs outside air from the side and
center vents and hot air from the floor outlets.

Operating tipsIClear snow and ice from the wiper blade
and air inlet in front of the windshield.
This will improve heater operation.AIR CONDITIONER OPERATIONStart the engine, turn the fan control dial to the
desired (Auto, 1 to 3) position and push in the
air conditioner button to activate the air condi-
tioner. When the air conditioner is on, cooling
and dehumidifying functions will be added to
the heater operation.

Dehumidified defoggingThis mode is used to defog the windows and
dehumidify.1. Push the air recirculation button off to im-
prove the defogging performance.

(Auto mode)
Turn the fan control dial to the AUTO
position.
4. Turn the temperature control dial to the
desired position.
Operating tipsIKeep windows and sun roof closed while
the air conditioner is in operation.
IAfter parking in the sun, drive for two or
three minutes with the windows open to
vent hot air from the passenger compart-
ment. Then, close the windows. This will
allow the air conditioner to cool the interior
more quickly.
IThe air conditioning system should be op-
erated for about ten minutes at least once a
month. This helps prevent damage to the
system due to lack of lubrication.

exceeds the hot position, turn the air con-
ditioner off. For additional information, see

IIf the engine coolant reaches an extremely
high temperature, the air conditioning sys-
tem will automatically turn off. This may
happen for example if the engine is run at
idle for a long time on a hot day.
AIR FLOW CHARTSSee earlier in the ªHeater and air conditioner
(manual)º section for air flow charts.
The sensor on the instrument panel helps
maintain a constant temperature. Do not put
anything on or around this sensor.The air conditioning system in your NISSAN
vehicle is charged with a refrigerant designed
with the environment in mind.
This refrigerant will not harm the earth's
ozone layer.
However, special charging equipment and lu-
bricant are required when servicing your
NISSAN air conditioner. Using improper refrig-
erants or lubricants will cause severe damage
to your air conditioning system. See ªCapaci-
ties and recommended fuel/lubricantsº in the
ª10. Technical and consumer informationº sec-
tion for air conditioning system refrigerant and
lubricant recommendation.
Your NISSAN dealer will be able to service
your environmentally friendly air conditioning
system.
The air conditioner system contains re-
frigerant under high pressure. To avoid
personal injury, any air conditioner ser-
vice should be done only by an experi-
enced technician with proper
equipment.

RADIOTo turn the radio on, turn the ignition key to
ACC or ON. If you listen to the radio with the
engine not running, turn the key to the ACC
position.Radio receptionRadio reception is affected by station signal
strength, distance from radio transmitter, build-
ings, bridges, mountains, and other external
influences. Intermittent changes in reception
quality normally are caused by these external
influences.
