To avoid damaging your vehicle or your battery, and to avoid
injury to yourself, follow these directions for preparing your
vehicle to jump-start and connecting the jumper cables in the
order they are given. If in doubt, call for road service.

To prepare your vehicle for jump-starting:
[ER13200(ALL)01/96]1.
Use only a 12-volt battery to jump-start your vehicle. Your
vehicle has a 12-volt starting system, so you need to use a
12-volt jumper system. You can damage your starting motor,
ignition system, and other electrical parts if you connect
them to a 24-volt power supply (either two 12-volt batteries
in series or a 24-volt motor generator set).

Do not disconnect the battery of the vehicle that needs a
jump-start. You could damage the vehicle's electrical system.

Park the second vehicle close to the hood of your vehicle,
but make sure the vehicles do not touch each other. Set the
parking brake on both vehicles and stay clear of the engine
cooling fan.

Check the battery terminals and remove any excessive
corrosion before you attach the jumper cables.

Turn on the heater blower in both vehicles. Turn off all other
switches and lights in both vehicles to prevent possible
damage to either vehicle's electrical systems.

Brake Fluid

Your vehicle is equipped with a brake fluid level indicator in
the master cylinder which lights the BRAKE warning light on
the instrument panel when the brake fluid level is low.

Under normal circumstances, your vehicle should not use up
brake fluid rapidly. However, expect the level of the brake fluid
to slowly fall as you put more mileage on your vehicle and the
brake pads wear.

Check the brake fluid at least once a year. You can do this by
looking at the fluid level in the plastic reservoir on the master
cylinder. The fluid level should be at or near the MAX mark.
Add fluid if level is 0.30" or more below the MAX line.

Brake fluid is toxic.

If brake fluid contacts eyes, flush eyes with running water for
15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists. If taken
internally, drink water and induce vomiting. Get medical
attention immediately.

If the fluid is low, carefully clean and remove the filler cap
from the reservoir. Fill the reservoir to the MAX line with Ford
High Performance DOT 3 Brake Fluid C6AZ-19542-AB or DOT 3
equivalent fluid meeting Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A.

To replace the fuel cap, align the tabs on the cap with the
notches on the filler pipe. Turn it clockwise until it stops.

Push the fuel door closed.

If the Service Engine Soon warning light comes on and stays on
when you start the engine, the fuel cap may not be properly
seated. Turn off the engine, remove the fuel cap and replace it,

If you lose the fuel cap, replace it with an authorized Motorcraft
or equivalent part.

damage to the fuel tank and/or fuel system.

Choosing the Right Fuel

Use only UNLEADED FUEL. Using leaded fuel is prohibited by
federal law. Any vehicle damage may not be covered by your
warranty.

Your vehicle was not designed to use fuel containing
manganese-based additives such as MMT. Additionally, vehicles
certified to California emission standards (indicated on the
underhood Vehicle Emissions Control Information label) are
designed to operate on California reformulated gasolines. If
California reformulated gasoline is not available when you
refuel, your vehicle can be operated on non-California fuels.
However, even though your engine will perform adequately on

How to Prepare Your Vehicle for
Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) Testing

In some localities it may become a legal requirement to pass an
Inspection/Maintenance (I/M) test of the On-Board Diagnostic
(OBD) II system. If the vehicle's powertrain system or its battery
has just been serviced, the OBD II system is reset to a not ready
for I/M testing condition. To prepare for I/M testing, the law
specifies that additional mixed city and highway driving is
required to complete the check of the OBD II system.

The driving modes required to reach the ready condition consist
of a minimum of 30 minutes of city and highway driving as
described below:

At least twenty minutes driving in stop and go, city type
traffic with at least four idle periods.

At least ten minutes of driving on an expressway or
highway.
