YOUR AUDIO ANTENNA
Your vehicle has an antenna printed on
the inside of the rear window.
Attaching the film (especially
conductive or metalic type) on the
rear window will noticeably reducethe sensitivity of the radio.
NOTICE
YOUR CASSETTE PLAYER
When you insert a cassette, the exposed
tape should be to the right.
Do not oil any part of the player anddo not insert anything other than
cassette tapes into the slot, or thetape player may be damaged.
NOTICE
YOUR COMPACT DISC PLAYER
Your compact disc player has an automat-
ic charger which stores up to 12 discs. To
insert discs in the automatic changer, see
CD (Compact Disc) Auto changerº. The
compact disc player will play from track 1
through to the end of the disc. Then it will
play from track 1 again.
Never try to disassemble or oil anypart of the compact disc player. Do
not insert anything except acompact disc into the slot.
NOTICE
The player is intended for use with 12 cm
(4.7 in) discs only.

102TREB (Treble)
This knob lets you adjust the treble level.
Push TREB/FADEº so that it pops out of
its retracted position. Turn the
knob to ad-
just the treble. Push the knob back into its
retracted position.
TUNE
Tuning
Your Toyota has an electronic tuning radio
(ETR).
Push and release the ~º (up) or ! º
(down) side of TUNEº to step up or down
the station band. (If you hear a beep, you
held the button too long and the radio will
go into the seek mode.)
Seeking
In the seek mode, the radio finds and
plays the next station up or down the sta-
tion band.
To seek a station, push and hold the ~ º or
! º side of TUNEº until you hear a beep.
Do this again to find another station. The compact disc player has an automat-
ic changer which stores up to 12 discs. To
operate the compact disc player, put the
compact discs into the magazine and set
the magazine in the player.
Inserting compact discs
1. Slide open the cover and push the
eject button.

2. Take out the magazine from the auto-matic changer.3. While pressing the lock release button
on the magazine, draw out a tray.4. Place a disc on the tray with its lable face up, and insert the tray into the
slot.
The magazine can store 12 discs of 12 cm
(4.7 in.).
The player will skip any empty disc slots.

5. Insert the magazine into the automatic
changer as shown above. Then close
the cover. The anti-theft system prevents the audio
system f
rom working after it has been dis-
connected. To activate the system, you
must set a three-digit security code. After
the system is set, SECº will appear in the
display each time the ignition is turned
form LOCKº or ACCº or ONº. Also, the
anti-theft light flashes every few seconds
while the ignition key is in the LOCKº
position.
You will need to know your security code
to reactivate your radio after electrical ser-
vice is performed on your vehicle.
Choose a security code that is easy to re-
member and keep a copy of it (not in your
Toyota).
NOTICE
If you pushed any wrong buttons on the anti-theft system, the following
messages will appear on thedisplay.
ErrºÐYou have pushed wrongbuttons.
1-9ºÐIndicates the number oferrors you have made. You maymake up to nine errors, but nomore!
HELPºÐThe number of errors
you can make was exceeded. Theaudio sytem is completely inoper-
able. Contact your Toyota dealer.

4. The three-digit code should be on thedisplay.
Push and hold in SCANº until the display
goes dark. (At first, SECº will appear on
the display.) If you pushed any wrong buttons,
Errº and the number of errors you
have made will appear on the display
before SECº does. Go back to step 2
and try again. If the display returns to
- - -º while you are entering the code,
go back to step 3.
To make sure the security code has been
accepted, turn the ignition to LOCKº and
then
back to ACCº. SECº should appear
on the display.
NOTICE
A tenth error will activate the anti-theft system and HELPº will
appear on the display. The audiosystem will be completelyinoperable. At this time, theanti-theft light also comes on. If this
occurs, contact your Toyota dealer.
NOTICE
To ensure the correct audio system operation:
Be careful not to spill beveragesover the audio system.
Do not put anything other than acassette tape or CD magazine into
the cassette tape slot or CD changer.
ILLUMINATION CONTROL LOGIC
When the instrument panel lights are on,
the letters on operable buttons of the
mode in current use light up. On some au-
dio units, the mode selection and eject
buttons also light up.
On some audio-units, when a cassette
tape and compact disc are not in the slot
the letters on the tape and disc mode but-
tons do not light up, but the slot lights up
for easy access. Once a cassette tape or
compact disc is inserted, the letters on the
tape or disc mode buttons light up, and the
slot stops illuminating.
