Windshield Wipers
You control the windshield wipers by moving the stalk
up or down.
For a single wiper cycle push the stalk down
to MIST, then
release it. For more cycles, hold the stalk down longer.
For fixed delay wiper cycles, move the wiper switch to
DELAY for wiper cycles with a fixed time delay
between them.
For steady wiper cycles, move the stalk up to either 1 or
2, depending on the wiper speed you want.
To turn the wipers off, move the stalk down to OFF.
Remember that damaged wiper blades may prevent you
from seeing well enough to drive safely. To avoid
damage, be
sure to clear ice and snow from the wiper
blades before using them.
If they're frozen to the
windshield, carefully loosen or thaw them. If your
blades do become damaged, get new blades or blade
inserts.
Heavy snow or ice c& overload your wiper motor. A
circuit breaker will stop them until the motor cools.
Clear away snow or ice to prevent an overload.
Controlled Cycle Wipers (Option)
If your vehicle has controlled-cycle wipers, you can set
the wiper speed for a short or long delay between wiper
cycles. The controlled-cycle delay is very useful
in light
rain or snow.
Move the stalk to DELAY, then rotate the band and
choose the delay you want. Rotate the inner band
clockwise for shorter delay times between wiper cycles.
Rotate the band counterclockwise for a longer delay
time between wiper cycles.
With controlled-cycle wipers
you can also use MIST for
a single wiper cycle. ,

Front Map Lamps (Option)
If your vehicle has a sunroof, it will have a rearview mirror
with lamps built in. The lamps go on when you open the
doors. When the doors
are closed, turn the lamps on and off
with the switches located below the face of the mirror.
Rear Reading Lamps (Option)
These overhead lamps and the interior courtesy lamps
will come on when you open the doors.
To turn on a reading lamp when the doors are closed,
press the button. Press it again-to
turn off the lamp.
Trunk Lamp
This lamp comes on when you open your trunk.
Battery Saver
Your Pontiac is equipped with a battery saver feature
designed to protect your vehicle’s battery.
When any interior lamp (trunk, reading, footwell or glove box) is left
on when the ignition is turned off, the
battery saver system will automatically shut the lamp off
after
20 minutes. This will avoid draining the battery.
To reactivate the interior lamps, either:
0 The ignition must be turned on,
0 The activated lamp switch must be turned off and
then on, or
0 A front door must be opened.
The battery saver feature will also be activated when
any door
of your vehicle is left open.
Also, if your vehicle is left with the ignition turned off
for over
24 days, battery power to your clock, audio
system and Keyless Entry (if you have this option) will
be turned off to reduce battery
drain. When the ignition
is turned on again, battery power will be resupplied.
However, under these conditions, it will be necessary to
reset the clock and audio system settings.

Setting the Clock for AM-FM Stereo
Press SET. Within five seconds, press and hold the
SEEK down mow until the correct hour appears on the
display. Press and hold the SEEK up arrow until the
correct minute appears on the display.
Setting the Clock for All Systems Except
AM-FM Stereo
Press and hold HR until the correct hour appears. Press
and hold
MIN until the correct minute appears. There
will
be a two-second delay before the clock goes into
time-set mode,
and the colon on the display will blink
while in this mode.
AM-FM Stereo
Playing the Radio
VOLUME: Turn this knob to turn the system on or off.
Turn the knob clockwise to increase volume. Turn it
count'erclockwise to decrease volume.
RCL: Press the upper knob briefly t'o recall the station
being played
or the clock display.
AM-FM: Press the lower hob to get AM or FM. The
display shows your selection.
TUNE: Turn the lower knob to choose radio stations.
SEEK: Press the up or down arrow to go to the next
higher or lower station.

(Option)
Playing the Radio
VOL: Push this knob to turn the system on or off. Turn
it clockwise to increase volume and counterclockwise to
decrease volume.
RECALL: Press this button briefly to recall the station
being played or the clock display. If you press the
knob when the ignition is off, the clock will show for
a few seconds.
Finding a Station
AM-FM: Press this button to get AM, FM1 or FM2.
The display shows your selection. If a cassette tape is
playing, press this button to play the radio.
TUNE: Press this knob lightly so it extends. Turn it to
choose radio stations. Push the knob back in when
you’re not wing it.
SEEK: Press the up or down arrow to go to the next
higher
or lower station.
PUSHBUTTONS: The six numbered pushbuttons let
you return to your favorite stations. You can set up to
18 stations (six-AM, six FM1 and six FM2).
1. Press AM-FM to select the band.
2. Find the station you want by using TUNE or SEEK.
3. Press and hold one of the six numbered buttons until
SET appears an the display. Whenever you press that
numbered button, the station you set will return.
4. Repeat the steps for each pushbutton.

Tone Settin, __
BASS: Slide the lever to the right or left to increase or
decrease bass. The middle position
is a detent.
TREBLE: Slide the lever to the right or left to increase
of decrease treble. The middle position is a detent. If a
stati'on is weak or noisy, slide the lever down to reduce
the noise.
Adjusting. the'speakers
BAL:
press this knob lightly so it extends. Turn this
knob to move the sound to the left or right speakers. The
middle position
is a detent and balances the speakers.
Push the knob
back in when you're not using it.
FADE: Press this knob lightly so it extends. Turn this'
knob to move the sound to the front or rear speakers. The
middle position is a detent and balances the speakers.

Playing a Cassette Tape
Your tape player is built to work best with tapes that are
30 to 45 minutes long on each side. Tapes longer than
that are
so thin they may not work well in this player.
While the tape iS playing, use the VOL, FADE, BAL,
TREBLE
and BASS controls just as you do for the
radio. The display will show an arrow to show which side
of the tape is playing. When the down indicator
arrow is lit,
selections listed on the bottom side of the I
cassette are playing. When the up arrow is lit, selections
listed on the top side
of the cassette are playing. The
tape player automatically begins playing
the other side
when it reayhes the end
of the tape.
If E and a number appear on the display, the tape won't
play because
of an error.
0 E10: The tape is'tight and the player can't turn
the tape hubs. Remove the tape. Hold the tape with
the open end down and try to tunithe right hub
counterclockwise with
a pencil. Turn the tape over
and try to turn the right hub.
If the hubs do not turn
easily, your tape may be damaged and should not be
used
in the player. Try a new tape to make sure your
player is working properly.
0 Ell: The tape is broken. ..
0 E12: There is a communication problem betweei the
PREV (1): Press this button or the'SEEK down arrow to
search for the previous selection on the tape. Your tape
must have at least three seconds
of silence between each
selection for PREV or SEEK to.work. The tape direction
arrow blinks during PREV or SEEK operation. Press
cassette mechanism and

CD Adapter Kits
It is possible to use a CD adapter kit with your cassette
tape player after activating the bypass feature
on your
tape player.
To activate the bypass feature, the ignition must be on.
Turn your radio off. Press TAPEPLAY and hold for .
three seconds. After three seconds, the tape symbol
in the display will flash for two seconds indicating
the feature is active. Turn the radio on and insert
the adapter.
This override feature will remain active until
EJECT
is pressed.

PROG (3): Press this button to play the other side of
the tape.
