permanent reduction in effectiveness. This loss of
effectiveness does not affect normal driving and
should not be noticeable to the driver.

Spare Tire Location
*
[RE05250( E )06/94]
The spare tire for your vehicle is stowed at the
rear under the frame (except cutaway and
stripped chassis models).
*
[RE05550( E )03/91]
To remove the spare tire:
[RE05625( E )03/93]
1. Open both of the rear doors. Remove the
access cover from the rubber strip found
behind the left door. Insert tapered end of

access hole. Turn counterclockwise until the
cable extends enough to allow the spare tire
to be pulled rearward from under the
vehicle.
*
[RE05700( E )10/94]
2. Slide the spare tire to the rear and remove
the retainer from the wheel.
*
[RE05850( E )10/94]

Removing the fuel cap
*
[SV06750( ALL)01/95]
The proper instructions for removing the fuel
cap are as follows:
*
[SV06800( ALL)03/90]
q
Unscrew the fuel cap by exerting pressure on
the plastic lock bar and rotating the fuel cap
counterclockwise.
*
[SV06850( ALL)12/91]
q
Turn the fuel cap 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn until a
hissing sound is heard. Wait until the hissing
sound stops and then continue rotating
counterclockwise to remove the fuel cap.
*
[SV06900( ALL)03/93]
q
Make sure that you follow the above fuel cap
removal instructions and use caution. Such
caution will minimize the possibility of fuel
spraying during removal of the fuel cap.
*
[SV06950( ALL)03/91]
To replace and secure the fuel cap; place it in
position and rotate it clockwise until it clicks
(ratchets). Doing so will not damage or break
the fuel cap. The ratcheting mechanism allows
the fuel cap to be sealed without overtightening.
*
[SV06975( ALL)06/95]
If you lose the fuel cap, replace it with an
authorized Motorcraft or equivalent part.
%*
[SV07000( ALL)05/95]
RWARNING
If you do not use the proper fuel cap, the
pressure in the fuel tank can damage the
fuel system or cause it to work improperly
in a collision.
