Section B: Owner Checks and Services
Listed below are owner checks and services which. should
be performed at the intervals specified to help ensure the
safety, dependability and emission control performance of
your vehicle.
Be sure any necessary repairs are completed at once.
Whenever any fluids or lubricants are added to
your vehicle
make sure they are the proper ones, as shown in Section D.
At Each Fuel Fill -(It is important for you or a service station attendant to perform these underhood checks at each fuel fill.)

Engine Oil Level
Check
the engine oil level and add the proper oil if necessary. See Engine Oil in the Index for
further details.

the engine coolant level and add the proper coolant mix if necessary. See Coolant in the
Windshield Washer Check the windshield washer fluid level in the windshield washer tank and add the proper fluid
if
Fluid Level necessary. See Windshield Washer Fluid in the Index for further details.

Tire
Inflation Check
tire inflation. Make sure they are inflated to the pressures specified on the Tire-Loading
Information label located on the rear edge of the driver’s door. See Tires in the Index for
further details.
Cassette Deck
I
Clean cassette deck. Cleaning should be done every 15 hours of tape play, See Audio Systems in
the
Index for further details.

WHAT TO DO
CAUTION: When you are doing this check, your vehicle could begin to move. You or others
could be injured and property could be damaged. Make sure there is room
in front of your
vehicle in case it begins to roll. Be ready to apply the regular brake at .once should the vehicle
begin to move.
Park on a fairly steep hill, with the vehicle facing downhill. Keeping your foot on the regular
brake, set the parking brake.
To check the parking brake: With the engine running and transaxle in N (Neutral), slowly
remove foot pressure from the regular brake pedal.
Do this until the vehicle is held by the
parlung brake only.
To check the P (Park) mechanism’s holding ability: Shift to P (Park). Then release all brakes.
At least every spring,
use plain water to flush any corrosive materials from the.underbody. Take
care
to clean thoroughly any areas where mud and other debris can collect.

Section C: Periodic Maintenance Inspections
Listed below are inspections and services which should be performed at least twice a year (for instance, each spring and fall).
You should let your GM dealer’s service department or other qualified service center
do these jobs. Make sure any necessary
Bepairs are completed at once.

WHAT SHOULD BE DONE
Now and then, make sure all your belts, buckles, latch plates, retractors, anchorages and
reminder systems are working properly. Look for any loose parts or damage.
If you see anything
that might keep a restraint system from doing its job, have it repaired.
Inspect the front and rear suspension and steering system for damaged, loose or missing parts,
signs of wear, or lack
of lubrication. Inspect the power steering lines and hoses for proper
hookup, binding, leaks, cracks, chafing, etc. Clean and then inspect the drive axle boot seals for
damage, tears or leakage. Replace seals if necessary.
Inspect the complete exhaust system. Inspect the body near the exhaust system. Look for broken,
damaged, missing or out-of-position parts as well as open seams, holes, loose connections, or
other conditions which could cause a heat build-up in the floor pan or could let exhaust fumes
into the vehicle. See

Inspect the throttle linkage for interference or binding, and for damaged or missing parts.
-Replace parts as needed.
Inspect the complete system. Inspect brake lines and hoses for proper hookup, binding, leaks, cracks,
chafing, etc. Inspect disc brake pads for wear and rotors for surface condition. Inspect other bralte
parts, including calipers, parking brake, etc. Check parking bralte adj\
ustment. You may need to have
your brakes inspected more often
if your driving habits or conditions result in frequent braking.
NOTE:-A low brake fluid level can indicate worn disc brake pads which may need to be serviced.
Also,
if the bralte system warning light stays on or comes on, something may be wrong with the
brake system. See
Brake System Warning Light in the Index. If your vehicle is equipped with anti-
lock brakes and the anti-lock bralte system warning
light stays on, comes on or flashes, something
may be wrong with the anti-lock brake system. See

Section E: Maintenance Record
After the scheduled services are performed, record the date,
odometer reading and who performed the service in the
columns indicated. When completing the Maintenance
Performed column, insert the numbers from.the Schedule

or Schedule I1 maintenance charts which correspond to the
maintenance performed. Also, you should retain all
maintenance receipts. Your owner information portfolio is a
convenient place to store them.
