Engine Coolant
The following explains your cooling
system and
how to add coolant when it
is low. If you have a problem with
engine overheating or
if you need to add
coolant to your radiator, see the Index
under Engine Overheuling.
The proper coolant for your Pontia’c

aluminum parts. You can also use a
recycled coolant conforming to
GM
Specification 1825-M with a complete
coolant flush and refill. If you use this
mixture, you don’t need to add
anything else.

your cooling system can be
dangerous. Plain water, or some
other liquid like alcohol, can boil
before the proper coolant mix will.
Your vehicle’s coolant warning
system is set for the proper coolant
mix. With plain water or the wrong
mix, your engine could get
too hot

warning. Your engine could catch
fire and you or others could be
burned. Use a
50/50 mix of clean
water and
a Droner antifreeze.

When you are doing this check, the vehicle could move suddenly. If it does, you or others I
could be injured. Follow the steps below.
1. Defore you start, be sure you have enough room aIuund the vdcle.
2. Firmly apply both the parking brake (see the Index under Parking Brake if necessary) and the
regular brake.
NOTE:
Do not use the accelerator pedal, and be ready to turn off the engine immediately if it

only in
P (Park) or N (Neutral). If the starter works in any other position, your vehicle needs
service.
On manual transaxle vehicles, put the shift lever in
N (Neutral), push the clutch down halfway
and try to start the engine. The starter should work only when the clutch\
is pushed down all
the way to the floor.
If the starter works when the clutch isn’t pushed all the way down, your
