LUBRICATION
TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION SERVICE INTERVALS
Check fluid level every 12 months or 15,000 miles. Change
fluid and filter every 30,000 miles. If vehicle is operated under
severe condition, change fluid more often. If severe darkening of
fluid and strong odor are noted, bands should also be adjusted (if
equipped).
TRANSFER CASE SERVICE INTERVALS
On 4WD and AWD models, change transfer case fluid every 30,
000 miles.
CHECKING FLUID LEVEL
TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION
1) Park vehicle on level area. Ensure oil is at normal
operating temperature, parking brake is engaged, and engine is at
idle. Move gear selector through each position, stopping briefly in
each position.
2) Place gear selector in Neutral, and clean area around
dipstick tube. Ensure fluid level is between lower and upper marks,
but never over upper mark, in HOT range. Add or drain fluid if
necessary.

LUBRICATION SERVICE INTERVALS

Check transaxle/transmission and transfer case fluid level
every 30,000 miles. Change fluid at 30,000 miles if operated under
severe service conditions.
CHECKING FLUID LEVEL
TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION
Lubricant level is checked at fill hole on side of transaxle
or transmission. Lubricant must be at bottom of fill hole.
TRANSFER CASE
Transfer case contains separate drain and fill plugs.
Lubricant must reach to bottom of fill hole.
On 3000GT models, transfer case contains separate drain and
fill plugs. Lubricant should be .5" (13 mm) from bottom of fill hole.
RECOMMENDED FLUID
Use API GL-4 or GL-5 SAE 75W-85 gear oil.

SELECT CABLE ADJUST
GALANT, MIRAGE & SIGMA
1) With transaxle select lever in Neutral, move gearshift
lever into 4th gear. It may be necessary to depress clutch pedal.
2) Loosen selector cable adjuster nuts (inside of vehicle).
See Fig. 2 . With select lever in Neutral, adjust select cable end
until eye fits easily over select lever pin. Tighten adjuster nuts.
SHIFT CABLE & GEARSHIFT LEVER ADJUST
GALANT, MIRAGE & SIGMA
1) With transaxle select lever in Neutral, move gearshift
lever into 4th gear. It may be necessary to depress clutch pedal.
2) Loosen shift cable adjuster nuts (inside of vehicle) and
disconnect cable end from shift lever pin. Tilt gearshift lever into
4th gear position until it touches stopper. See Fig. 3. Hold lever in
this position and adjust shift lever cable so cable aligns with shift
lever pin.
3) Move shift lever between 3rd, Neutral and 4th gear
positions. Shift lever-to-stopper clearances should be equal on both
sides of lever. See Fig. 3. If clearances "A" and "B" are not equal,
readjust shift cable. Road test vehicle to ensure proper adjustment
and smooth shifting.

1991 WHEEL ALIGNMENT

WHEEL ALIGNMENT PROCEDURES
NOTE: On vehicles with electronic chassis controls, ensure all
systems are functional before attempting to adjust riding
height or wheel alignment.
CAMBER ADJUSTMENT
Montero, Pickup & Ram-50
1) Check tire inflation. Place front wheel on turning radius
gauge, and level vehicle (unladed). On 2WD models, remove hub cap and
cotter pin. On 4WD models, remove free wheeling hub assembly.
2) On all models, measure camber with camber/caster/kingpin
gauge attached. See appropriate WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS table.
If camber is not within specification, remove shock absorber mounting
nut and lock nut.
3) Compress shock absorber and loosen upper arm mounting
bolts and nuts. Adjust camber by increasing or decreasing shims
between upper arm shaft and crossmember. See Fig. 1.
CAUTION: Difference in shim thickness between front and rear must be
.16" (4 mm) or less. DO NOT use more than 3 shims at one
location.

Stealth & 3000GT

Remove free wheeling hub. Measure caster with
camber/caster/kingpin gauge and turning radius gauge. See WHEEL
ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS table. If caster is not within specification,
remove upper arm from crossmember. Adjust caster by turning upper arm
shaft. See Fig. 4.

Pickup & Ram-50
1) Check tire inflation. Place front wheel on turning radius
